Am I the only person who expects to see nothing at my 12 wk scan?

I know, I'm a bit crazy. I'm 12wks tomorrow and have my NT scan first thing.

I've had rotten sickness, sore (.)(.), knackeredness etc, no bleeding or cramps at all.

So, am I off my trolley by thinking that they won't find anything at all tomorrow? I'm convinced that there will be nothing there and they'll think I'm a nutter. Does everyone go through this. I'm sort of joking but not really. I truly will be stunned if there is anyone there...

you are off your trolley, but it's not your fault - you're pregnant!
being pregnant is such a huge thing to get your head round that actually seeing it on screen really helped me come to terms that i was actually ging to have a baby.

LOL Sarah, that is exactly how I felt. I was ready to be told I had a phantom pregnancy

you will be shocked at how clear and what a "proper" baby it is. When I looked at the screen both dh and I thought it was a picture of the last persons baby and not ours, we just werent prepared! Enjoy it, it is a wonderful experience.

Every time...

Wasn't scanned until 20 weeks with my first. It was a long wait...

After 2 missed m/c we went along for the 3rd 12 week scan fully expecting to be told "I'm sorry..". Instead there was a baby . The radiographer must have thought we were mad when both DH and I said in surprise "it's a baby!"

I felt like exactly like this. With DS1 I told the sonographer I didn't think she'd see anything. She looked really worried and turned the screen away from me. But he was definately there!

OMG that's pretty much what I had it in my head to say if I did see anything - are you sure you haven't got network issues and that's next door's?

It would be reassuring to think that I will get my sanity back after this is done and dusted. I'm doubtful though. I've even told them at work that I probably will be too upset to come in tomorrow afternoon!

I think it's normal tbh

I remember when we went for our 12 week scan. I was convinced I wasn't really pregnant as was lucky enough to have no symptons (except tiredness). It was quite a shock, although a very pleasant one, to see the lo bouncing around as if he was on a trampoline. From then on it finally seemed real.

like evenhope i had 2 m/cs before last baby so i went for my scan barely believing it would be ok and when it was I just sobbed and sobbed...

I was like this each (3 times). Even after the scan, it wasn't until I felt movement that I believed I wasn't having a phantom pregnancy. Good luck with it all.

I was the same with both dc's .. i felt a real fraud sitting in the waiting room and had convinced myself it was all wishfull thinking

ha yes it's normal i felt like that too. after the scan you walk away in a sort of high as you realise you didn't imagine it

Sarah I was feeling very anxious about my NT scan yesterday. Seeing it all was voerwhelming and amazing how developed they are. good luck for tomorrow. Scan can take longer as they need baby is specific position. x

Thanks Awen. I'm also concerned that even if there is something/someone in there, that they won't be able to find them through all the lard. But that's a different story...

Definitely with you on this one, thought that both pregnancy tests may be wrong etc, etc, breathed a huge sigh of relief and actually felt pregnant for the first time

I couldnt quite believe there was a baby there until i went home clutching the pics (and it looked like a baby too).

Good luck tomorrow, scans can be great.

I was convinced it would be a phantom pg too and was surprised at something being there! My DP even gasped really loudly when he first saw it (his fast baby) which made the moment even more special for me.

I didn't feel real for me until I saw my baby yesterday and even then it was hard to believe. I put the scan picture on the fridge this morning and felt an overwhelming urge to kiss the picture and I felt a huge rush of excitment.

I felt exactly the same. Even though I'd already developed a bit of a belly by 12 wks, I was convinced that nothing would show up on the scan or, worse, that it would show that the baby had died. I was worried about it for ages - but when I went, there it was on screen: a perfect little baby, leaping around and kicking the s**t out of my bladder!

I cried buckets - it was the best thing I've ever seen.

So go, don't worry about it if you can and look forward to saying hello to your baby for the first time.

(BTW, they spend ages doing an NT scan, as opposed to the NHS 12 wk scan at hospital which takes about five seconds - so you really get to see the baby properly).

Also felt the same. In fact, I distinctly recall both DH and I being hugely shocked when the sonographer's first words were a very matter-of-fact "well, there's a good strong heart beat." Our first one (due early Oct) and you hear of so much that can go wrong, so we hadn't really thought about it or started to plan - plus up until then, everyone had just taken my word for it. In fact, I think we were more stunned by the scan than by the BFT(and that was surprising enough!).

sarahjct- you are not alone, my 12 week scan is booked on 16th July, eventhough I will be more like 13 weeks.. however I am so convinced I have no symtpoms that I have booked a private scan on Tuesday next week , costing £65 worth every penny1 I have already had two scans because of my history, some may call me greedy but I am just nurotic!

Oh my goodness, I thought I was the only one and now it seems I'm only the latest in a long line of pregnant loonies!

I think the other thing that makes me think I'm imagining it all is that I've always been convinced that, when I was pregnant, I would be able to feel it, and that it's utterly ridiculous to think there could be something living inside me and I wouldn't know. As I haven't felt anything yet (duh! Why would I at 12wks??), that only serves to convince me more!

I was absolutely the same - I was convinced someone would tell me that there's nothing there at all, and I was only doing it to get attention (a common accusation all through my childhood and even recently when I was accused of "putting on" the symptoms of asthma and chronic allergies - parents, don't you love them).

I was gobsmacked when I saw my bean, especially as s/he was dancing around like a mad thing.

I'm now at 13+4, and trying not to wind myself up that I've had a missed miscarriage since the scan. Roll on being able to feel the baby and my 20 week scan!
