@ranchorelaxo, That’s reassuring. At this time of year my body-clock goes a bit crazy anyway but I’m literally not able to keep my eyes open! I thought I’d shaken the stinker of a pre-Christmas cold I’d caught but it’s back with a vengeance - combined with this tiredness, it’s just horrendous! How long does the tiredness normally last? x

MrsEG · 04/01/2019 10:28

Morning ladies, having a mild panic today. Yesterday evening just before I left the office I had some very pale, watery pink discharge when I wiped. Naturally panicked, went home and knicker checked all night and there was nothing more. FMU this morning again nothing, however around 9am some very pale brown discharge when wiping (nothing in actual knickers). Again, nothing since and no blood/pain.

I can’t decide what to do - monitor it and see, or call midwife/EPU to get checked. I know spotting of this kind is totally normal in early pregnancy (I am 5+2) but as I had a MC in october I am more anxious than usual about it. Has anyone else had anything similar?

MrsM2017 · 04/01/2019 10:49

@mrsof20118 wow! Hoping I feel better by 9 weeks! I can hope! Not feeling so bad today but it does tend to get worse in the afternoon so you never know!

Hope you're 20 week scan goes well @
Bettyhop 🙂 x

@Crossfitgirl nope ginger not working for me either! Although the hubby is pretty happy to eat the couple of packets of ginger biscuits we have stockpiled! 😂

Not had anything similar @MrsEG but always worth calling the midwife or would just for reassurance - I've heard that brown or pink blood isn't always bad, it's the bright red that's more worrysome, but can totally understand your anxiety so I'm sure they won't mind a phone call from you 💕

I had my booking appointment this morning which was good, hubby couldn't come but I think he would have been bored in all honesty as it was lots of medical questions! I hate having my bloods taken but was very brave and something I'll definitely have to get used to!

SullyWifey · 04/01/2019 11:06

@MrsEG I had exactly the same during week 5. Brown is old blood and usually coming out from implantation a couple of weeks ago. I literally saw it twice and not again xxxx

ChaosMoon · 04/01/2019 11:27

@MrsEG I had pretty much constant spotting and cramping until 16 weeks and it was fine. Worth getting reassurance from an expert though. I'm sure your midwife won't mind you calling.

I'm sitting at my desk and trying to concentrate, but the baby has hiccups. Can you imagine life just bring sleep and hiccups? I'm glad I'm not a baby.

mrsof20118 · 04/01/2019 13:32

@MrsEG I had brown spotting between weeks 3 and 5. It was more than a couple of days. I notified the gp I was pregnant and mentioned it and they referred me for an early scan for 6 weeks. Before 6 weeks they may not as not much to see. They also referred me for bloods to check hcg levels due to previous mc. Always worth giving them a call. I know it's hit and miss with gps though. The one I spoke to on precious mc just told me to wait and see what happened in a week or so. Don't be afraid to push for a referral though x

RanchoRelaxo · 04/01/2019 13:41

@Teachermummy83 sorry to say I am now 12+4 and still just as tired as I was 😂 well actually maybe a bit less zombie like, but still not the way I was before, hoping that it starts to calm down soon 🤞

@MrsEG I agree with everyone else, brown blood or light pink is not supposed to be bad although I know how scary it is, fingers crossed it was just a one off xx

MrsEG · 04/01/2019 13:45

@MrsM2017 @SullyWifey @ChaosMoon @mrsof20118 @RanchoRelaxo Thanks so much ladies. Spoke with the EPU who weren’t concerned at all and I’ve been advised to see the GP this afternoon for blood tests for some reassurance. I’ve had no more spotting since so i’m hoping I’m just being overcautious!

MrsLBear · 04/01/2019 13:55

It doesn't sound like anything sinister @MrsEG but I'd totally be concerned as you are so I agree with the others. Maybe just phone 111 or gp/midwife they will quickly establish if it's something to worry about.
Like I said before I'm a compulsive knicker checker so it would send me into a frenzy too.
^typed that and then saw your response. Glad to hear they are being proactive with you. Let us know what the bloods say! Good sign you've not had more and going by the other ladies experiences on here it seems quite common.

How many weeks are you @MrsM2017? Also again excuse my dumb questions. What is a booking appt and when do you have it?

MrsEG · 04/01/2019 14:39

@MrsLBear Thanks lovely! I’ve actually had my form from the midwife today to organise my booking in appointment. They’ve told me it’ll be at 10 weeks to book in, and they’ll just ask a bunch of questions and take blood etc, ready for the 12 week scan!
My GP referred me, but I believe every GP surgery is different - worth giving them a quick call!

EltzBee · 04/01/2019 14:49

@MrsEG glad to hear the Dr is being proactive, hope the blood tests go okay. That's exciting getting your forms today :) I wasn't sure when the booking in appointment was meant to be - some of what I've read says 8 weeks, others 10 weeks. I guess it depends how busy they are. Mind you it also sounds like the 12 week scan can be 11 weeks or 13 weeks?

I've got my GP appointment on Monday morning (first thing); the reception said they'll confirm the pregnancy - does that mean I need to not go for a wee when I wake up so they can do a test when I'm there or something?!?!

5+6 today. Feel much better today than I did yesterday, thankfully. Even managed to go for a short stroll, yesterday I literally ended up hibernating as felt so totally shattered and sick if I tried to eat.

DH is going to the states for work in a weeks time, so have told him he needs to get me disposable gloves and a mask so I can do our cats litter boxes! D'oh.

MrsM2017 · 04/01/2019 15:03

@MrsLBear I'm 8 weeks plus 4 today 😊 and the booking in appointment is an appointment to meet your midwife, go through medical history, take some blood samples and book your 12 week scan (if not done already) x

Teachermummy83 · 04/01/2019 15:08

@ranchorelaxo, oh lord, I really hope the tiredness does one before 12 weeks! Once I’m back at work it’ll be impossible if this carries on that long!
@MrsEG, hopefully it’s norhing and you’re just being over cautious, but I totally understand why your apprehensive.
@MrsLbear, booking in appointments and procedures seem to vary massively from what I’ve read here. I went to see my GP yesterday (first pregnancy and I’d no idea what to do!) and he asked a few questions but handed me straight over to midwifes by giving me a phone number to book in with them. I called and now have to pick up a welcome pack and complete a booklet prior to my first appointment which is booked for 8 weeks. It suddenly seems very real now!

EltzBee · 04/01/2019 16:47

Did some reading earlier, and it looks like because I'm a fatty (I have been trying to lose weight before I got preg, and I don't look as fat as my BMI suggests I am!!!) I'll have to go to hospital not a midwife unit. Anyone know if this means it'll be a faff for the check ups during pregnancy too? Our nearest big hospital whilst very good is in a city that detests cars and is horrendous to get to and ever park at, whereas the midwife units are only 15 mins away.

CookieWaffle · 04/01/2019 16:56

@EltzBee my bmi is 35 and I don't remember them saying I had to go because of my weight, however I do have to go under a consultant at the hospital due to my age. Tho we're lucky the hospital is nearby. Just the parking is awful!

EltzBee · 04/01/2019 17:01

@CookieWaffle that's good to know, my BMI is about 33 and I've literally just turned 30, so guess I'll see what they say. I've been doing Slimming World but have to get permission from a midwife to continue, so a little bit in limbo with that at the moment. Will speak to GP properly Monday I guess.

Yeah, our nearest is John Radcliffe which is a brilliant hospital, but it is notorious for parking being nigh on impossible. My mum has to go there regularly and it sometimes takes them an hour just to get parked.

Does being under a consultant change anything in the checks you have to have or whether it'll be dr or midwife that delivers?

mrsof20118 · 04/01/2019 17:35

@EltzBee I will probably be consultant led due to hereditary kidney problems. I think we get more appointments. I still plan to try and have a midwife led but will probably be at the hospital in case of any emergencies.

MrsEG · 04/01/2019 18:00

My sister was consultant led as she had a high BMI and also thyroid issues. She actually really liked it - she found she had more appointments and scans overall than her friends and she just said she always felt very well looked after! She ended up having no real issues with her thyroid or weight but the doctors kept a good eye on her. She did have HG (from 7 weeks to 8 months!) but it only required two hospital visits in the end, as she managed to stay hydrated. The joys!!

CookieWaffle · 04/01/2019 18:39

@EltzBee ahh yes I hear good things about the John Radcliffe :) I'm not that far away. I stopped the diet I was on but the midwife did suggest I could do slimming World if i wanted to. Yeah @MrsEG I'm quite glad I'll be under a consultant just so I'm getting extra looked after!

Crossfitgirl · 04/01/2019 20:47

@mrsEG glad all is OK. I had the same watery pink spotting one morning, I actually saw it in the toilet it was so much... then had like a rust colour later in the day, both were just one offs and never came back. I was 7 weeks at the time and the midwife wasn't worried. Like some have said, think it's just red we need to be worried about. Doesn't stop us panicking!

I have no idea about consultant or midwife led, mines low risk apparently and I was told I could give birth at home if I wanted!! I was like... Err no!

Crossfitgirl · 04/01/2019 20:56

@eltzbee oh no for DH going away!! Not to say this will happen but have you prepared for if you start to feel worse while he's gone? I'd be getting some online shopping slots, loading up on snacks and make sure there's as little as possible for you to do that week just in case!
Sorry, that's just my insane crazy panicker in me panicking on your behalf, don't let it rub off lol just from having felt shit for a few weeks now I'd totally be planning ahead lol xx

MrsLBear · 05/01/2019 05:55

Morning ladies. My app showed me this article today which is quite relevant to our discussions lately and what some of you have been experiencing/have experienced!
Quite an interesting read.

MrsEG · 05/01/2019 07:28

@MrsLBear Thanks lovely! So reassuring to read everyone’s past experiences here too. The GP was brill and essentially told me it’s nothing to worry about unless there is bleeding (apparently even then, it doesn’t always signal bad news). He didn’t make me feel like a complete fool for going in to see him either though! He examined my stomach and seemed happy it was nothing :)

@Crossfitgirl I can’t imagine giving birth at home either, I’m sure it’s just wonderful for some but I am just such a worrier! Plus, don’t quite fancy the clean up afterwards!! I’d personally love a water birth but will see what the midwives say - my sister wasn’t allowed one due to her health issues. Keeping my FX though!

Happy weekends to all!

CrystalBlaze · 05/01/2019 08:16

Glad all is well @MrsEG Smile Think it's very common.

@Crossfitgirl how's the nausea now? Has it eased off at all?

I've got to have another bloody booking appointment with the midwife this week as we moved house in November from London to just outside. There is a nice maternity unit in the town I live in though so hoping I'll be able to go there, although I still need to organise looking round various places.

Are any of you ladies planning on doing NCT? Our classes start at the end of the month and no idea what to expect really!

ChaosMoon · 05/01/2019 08:18

The clean up is always the first thing I think about with a home birth too! Our local birth centre is in the hospital, so you can be quickly transferred to a ward if needed. I like that. And the fact that most of the rooms have pools. Fingers crossed for a water birth!
