Best way to announce sex

It's my mums birthday on Sunday and I want to surprise her with the sex of the baby. Does anyone have any good ideas?

Sign the card from blueberry and your grandson/ daughter?

IForgotThisEvening · 29/11/2018 09:56

Something like this? They do have grandson versions if you’re having a boy. Or Make one similar yourself.

Definitely not this way

HoustonBess · 29/11/2018 14:00

Just bloody tell them, all this fannying about is so American.

ZackPizzazz · 29/11/2018 14:02

How surprised is she going to be that it's one of two things? Just tell her.

Ohyesiam · 29/11/2018 14:04

Well it’s 50 50 so o should just say it.

6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 14:05

People will tell you it's silly and American to announce things in a creative way but I think it's sweet and lovely. We didn't find out the sex but we thought about it. I probably would've just written a little card or something from baby boy/girl. Simple but effective :)

Pompom42 · 29/11/2018 14:09

Bake her a cupcake with pink or blue sweets inside.

scrivette · 29/11/2018 14:13

Just tell her.

Or a pink or blue helium balloon in a box.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 29/11/2018 14:16

Just tell them.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 29/11/2018 14:19

Was it just me, or did anybody else think “why would you want to announce you’ve been fucking, anyway?” when I read the title? For one, pregnancy kind of screams that for you.

Totally not helpful, as you were...

iLevictoiChete · 29/11/2018 14:19

Making a big deal of it at all demonstrates internalised sexism. It's fair enough to want to find out - if an ultrasound could determine hair color or eye colour I'd want to know that too, just because it's great to know something, anything about this new person. Big reveal events just show that you think the sex has a significant meaning for what they will be like, which isn't true and only sexist people think it is.

Waterdropsdown · 29/11/2018 14:26

A pregnant friend who had found out her baby’s sex once said to me “no one but the parents care” and I thought that is so true why do people make such a big deal about this. I didn’t find out my kids sex until born.

MrsJane · 29/11/2018 14:33

A lovely thought! It's an exciting time, why not create a special moment.

I love Iforget's idea of a picture frame! Or a keyring or photoframe.

I was thinking that a loud screaming orgasm would probably suffice! Probably not in your mother's hearing though...

6weeks7 · 29/11/2018 14:43

Grandparents definitely care!!

blueberry71 · 29/11/2018 14:43

All I wanted was a nice way to tell my mum that she was having a grandson. Not some grand announcement. It's her birthday and wanted to do something nice. That was it. Thank you for some of the nice ideas.

I baked a cake to take to a family lunch and used pink icing to write 'it's a boy' across the top. Oh, the confusion 🤣

Gobletoffire · 29/11/2018 17:46

Either the cake idea, balloon in a box, maybe one of those confetti cannon things but that might get a bit messy. Or just a nice message in a card for her to open x

ForTheSakeOfTheFox · 29/11/2018 18:14

Make sure she actually wants to know first! My parents asked us not to tell them the sex if we found out, because they wanted it to be a surprise.

Amolly · 29/11/2018 19:31

I'm going to be telling my mum next week, she loves knitting and is already doing neutral clothes. So I'm going to be telling her with a coloured ball of wool and a knitting pattern. This is her first grandchild and although some may see it as 'sexist' ( which it certainly is not) it's exciting to know. She knows this is how I'm telling her and can't wait :)

Strokethefurrywall · 29/11/2018 19:41

Well done to those bitch plopping all over the thread.
Bunch of arseholes you are.

OP, the card thing a previous poster put up is lovely, something like that is nice.

I love how people snidely say "nobody cares but the parents" - fuck of with that, maybe nobody gave a shit about your news but I'm sure the OPs family cares very much about hers.

Fucks sake, this place is absolutely going to the dogs.

toastymarshmallowss · 29/11/2018 19:44

Could you do a boomf card and get the confetti to be either pink or blue?

TokenGinger · 29/11/2018 20:09

@blueberry71 Is there anywhere nearby you can get a balloon filled with helium? I've got a black balloon off eBay and blue confetti. I'm going to blow it up for Christmas Day for my nana to pop. She'll be thrilled.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 29/11/2018 21:24

You can get sex reveal scratch cards. Might be fun for your mum!
