Maternity clothing - help!!

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 10:36

So I am now twelve weeks pregnant and am really struggling to find maternity clothes! I don't want to be spending too much and I'm finding that very few shops actually do fashionable maternity clothes so am really struggling to find things!! Also, the majority of shops near me don't even stock a maternity section in store so am having to find things online instead, does anybody else feel like this and are there any recommendations as to where to shop?
Thank you in advance xxx

I got most of mine online from H&M, ASOS and New Look. A few pricier bits from Seraphine.

Nothisispatrick · 26/11/2018 10:38

Is there a reason you don’t want to do it online? I got most of my stuff on ASOS

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 10:43

ASOS seems like the best place to go and I don't mind shopping online but I do prefer trying on as usually I send most of the things I've ordered back as I end up not liking them haha!

I'm 20 weeks, and also very fussy about fabric and how soft it is etc. So I've found it really difficult having to get stuff online.

I've got the ASOS premier delivery thing so get next day delivery and also signed up for Klarna so I don't have to pay up front. I regularly buy a load of stuff to try on, and if It doesnt fit or feel right I send it back and I'm not having to wait for a refund.

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 10:45

Yes, I'm the same! That does sound like a good idea, I'll think I'll give that a try, what kind of bits have you bought? What have you been finding is the most comfortable thing to wear?

Boohoo maternity is fab x

Anyat212 · 26/11/2018 10:47

I use new look and ASOS, I really like the fit & they are reasonably priced. Boohoo have a maternity selection too although I’ve only bought a swimsuit from there (which fit ok)

I also use eBay & Depop for second hand items either new or slightly worn which works well too. I think online tends to be the only and tbh better option - new look, next & H&M are the only stores which have a small selection available near me.

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 10:52

Yes, I'm thinking online is the best option now as well! I'll try New Look, Asos and Boohoo and see what I think. Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions on what they've found is the best thing to wear?

H&M have a decent sized maternity section in-store xx

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:00

My nearest H&M doesn't have a maternity section in store, neither does my New Look, how annoying!!

It really is irritating that you have to shop for this stuff online, I know. I think that's just the reality of it though. I've bought some new stuff - a couple of seraphine dresses which have been fantastic for smart-ish stuff - and then supplement on ebay which at least has the advantage of being cheap. I really miss nice clothes though.

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:36

Seraphine does have some lovely bits, yes I'm the same I'm just not keen on the selection of maternity clothes.

I ordered a lot of things online and did a lot of returns.

If you do want to try things on in store choices are VERY limited. Mothercare, Jojo mama, H&M are the best options. John Lewis sometimes has a rack. Uniqlo have a maternity range now too. Otherwise most are online only or only at their big stores - for example Topshop on Oxford Street has their maternity range.

@Rosie9789

I’m 20 weeks and have a little bump at the moment, getting sick of hearing “where’s your bump” 🙄 however, I live in my maternity jeans but they are over the bump which at the moment is really annoying as I have to literally yank them up but they are comfy. So if you’re in the same position I’d recommend maybe under the bump - I just can’t justify paying another £27 for Mat jeans when I know I’ll probably ‘pop’ soon 😂 plus I really like the look of them so I’m sticking to them. it’s just annoying my normal jeans are too tight. I like long jumpers and tops too new look have 2 for £12 atm and have some nice colours in. I actually went to Primark to other day and bought shift dresses and tops in a size or two bigger for work and they seem good - just another option!

I love pyjamas too! As soon as I’m home I rush to get my maternity ones on they apparently grow with you and are comfy. They were from ASOS so recommend getting a pair. X

Camsie30 · 26/11/2018 11:42

I like Gap for jeans and jumpers, they have 50% off today

Vanannabananna · 26/11/2018 11:42

I got lots from Jojo, mothercare, h and m, new look, ASOS and Dorothy Perkins. Mainly online though!

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:42

I have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of returns too! Thanks for the recommendations though! What kind of things do you find the comfiest things to wear?

OP posts:
Vanannabananna · 26/11/2018 11:46

With both kids I found skirts and dresses were most comfy. Mothercare do some really comfy yoga pants which I lived in at the end! I found basic tshirt did the job. Mothercare and newlook did those. Lasted 2 pregnancies and now passed on to friends.

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:47

Thank you! @Anyat212 where did you get your mat jeans from? Yes! Will defo be getting some more pyjamas, I'm exactly the same! Will definitely have a look on Gap and Jojo, haven't looked on Jojo before!

OP posts:
Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:48

Wow lasted two pregnancies, I'll definitely get some of those then!

Vanannabananna · 26/11/2018 11:49

Jojo Mat jeans were very comfy. Must confess most of my stuff from Jojo. Not cheap but as I knew I wanted more than one child I didn’t mind. Lots on eBay though. Next do maternity stuff too x

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 11:52

Yes exactly, that makes sense just been having a look their stuff does look quite good!

Angharad07 · 26/11/2018 11:57

EBay all the way!

Hopeislost · 26/11/2018 12:00

I'm living in my maternity leggings at the moment (M&S £9.50). I wear them with longer tops and jumpers or under dresses and skirts. I did buy some maternity tights but it's much less hassle to just pop a pair of leggings on instead!

Rosie9789 · 26/11/2018 12:02

Yes definitely, leggings sound like a great option, comforts key!
