Two girls

Squiff70 · 25/11/2018 16:21

@SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc - what makes you guess two girls?

OP posts:
MagicalCreatures · 25/11/2018 18:17

Are they identical or fraternal?
Congratulations!!!!
Was it a shock or had you already had an early scan x x

Squiff70 · 25/11/2018 18:43

Thank you @MagicalCreatures! They're non-identical, or fraternal. We had an early scan at 9+1 so we've known for three and a half weeks but I'm still in shock even now, lol :)

Awww that’s so lovely.
Well I’m afraid one of the pictures isn’t very clear and no I’m not sure what I’m really looking at 😂 and the other isnt a great view of the nub though I do think that one could be a girl.
How exciting for you though. Are you going to find out x x

Squiff70 · 25/11/2018 20:30

@MagicalCreatures - Yes, we have a private well-being and gender scan booked for 22d December so hopefully, if both babies comply, we'll know by Christmas. We're so excited to find out! Why do you think one might be a girl?

Going with 2 girls tooSmile congrats x

SandysMam · 25/11/2018 20:34

One of each!!

neversleepagain · 25/11/2018 20:38

My fraternal twins are both girls. Dcda twins aren't necessarily non identical so if you are having 2 girls or 2 boys there is a 33.3% chance of them being identical.

Congratulations!

MagicalCreatures · 25/11/2018 20:45

Oh wow, great Xmas present!!
Please come back and let us know.
And I think one is a girl because the clearer picture does have a slight indication of girl. There is a very faint line where the nub could be that looks flat and the skull is more girly. But I’m no expert.

@neversleepagain Interesting! I thought there were only identical twins (one egg splits in 2) and fraternal (2 separate eggs fertilised resulting in babies which are no more alike then normal siblings)
How would you get fraternal twins being classed as identical if they’re the same sex x

neversleepagain · 25/11/2018 20:51

Fraternal twins are non identical and dcda (two sacs and two placentas). However, not all dcda twins are fraternal. If the egg splits very early on the twins are identical with two placentas. 33% of dcda (two placentas) twins are identical. I know many!

Squiff70 · 25/11/2018 20:53

@neversleepagain so even though they're in seperate sacks and presumably have their own placentas they could still be identical? WOW! I'm hoping not but WOW.

I read that one third of non-identical twins are opposite sexes but two thirds are th same sex. Thank you for your insight!

Yours are the first diagram, dcda twins can be monozygotic or dizygotic. A DNA test is the only way to tell unless they are obviously different like mine (I have a blonde and a brunette).

FamilyOfAliens · 25/11/2018 22:19

It’s sex, not gender.

Ooh how exciting! I have twins. I think you’ve definitely got at least one girl as I can see three lines too on the top twin in the shot on the left. Mine were DCDA but we knew they were non identical before they were born as at an early scan they could tell both ovaries had released an egg. (Also they were different sexes but we didn’t find out till they were born).

Congratulations OP! Twins rock.

Squiff70 · 25/11/2018 22:22

Sex, not gender? Heard it all now!

@Shepherdspieisminging, couldn't they form the penis and testicles though?

OP posts:
Derrinbraun · 25/11/2018 22:23

If one is definitely a girl (and I really can't tell!) then statistically they are more likely to be a girl and a boy than two girls so I'll go with that!
