Can I feel the baby at 12 weeks or am I dreaming?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and for the past little while I think I can "feel" the baby. It is not butterflies like I have heard other people say they have felt. It is more like just a feeling. I realise that makes no sense at all.

Has anyone else had this or am I losing it? I could easily be losing it. I have been doing strange things all week and have baby brain for sure.

Hello.

I am 14 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I felt my baby move about 2 weeks ago. It felt like a jelly that was wobbling after someone had nudged it. Hope that helps?

LynetteScavo · 20/06/2007 14:46

Have you had a scan yet? Could you be more that 12 weeks pregnant?

TPot · 20/06/2007 14:51

Hello Lynette

I'm new to all this chat stuff and mums net, so you will have to forgive me. Was that message for me? Yes I've had a scan.

PBirdy · 20/06/2007 14:51

TPot, I think it is a similiar sort of thing - although I must say it is a bit hard to imagine what a jelly feels like when it wobbles but yes, similiar sort of thing I think.

I had a scan at 10 weeks and have my nuchal scan on Friday. At 10 weeks the baby was big for the number of weeks and they said they would re-date it on Friday so I might be a bit further along

I've got a new question for you both. Have either of you tried out the reusable nappies? I've been on line researching the different types, but it's a mind field out there?

LynetteScavo · 20/06/2007 15:00

TPot Hold on! One subject at a time please!
I'm not into reusable nappies . Start a whole new thead asking for advice on reuseable nappies.

I felf my first baby kick at 17/18 weeks. Somone will probably come along in a minute and tell you they felt their baby move earlier.

PBirdy · 20/06/2007 15:01

Thanks girls. I think it is all in my mind to be honest. I also read that maybe I am feeling my uterus stretching!?

It is my first so I don't know a thing about nappies.

Pbirdy, I felt my first movements at 16 weeks, a bit like wind moving through my guts but much lower and near the front iyswim. However... I did feel when I leaned forward in the bath at 9 weeks, a definite mass there, and sometimes if dh was driving too fast in the car, swinging around corners, like a lot of swishing in there, as though I had a stomach full of water, but again much lower and nearer the front. It's not quite the same as you, but I'm sure it's possible to be aware of something there much earlier than the 20 weeks most of the books seem to say.

beller · 20/06/2007 15:46

Hey Pbirdy, well im almost the same dates as you...i cant feel a movment or anything, but definately "feel" something there!! awseome isnt it xx

barbamama · 20/06/2007 15:54

I definitely felt faint movements at 11 week with this pg but is my second, first was 19/20 weeks.

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 20/06/2007 16:05

In my first pg I felt movments at 18 weeks and it used to make me jump! I remember having lunch with everyone at work when I first felt him and shouting out as it mad me jump that much - it was a great feeling

2nd pg was slightly earlier at around 15/16 weeks but dd was a lot more gentle

RnBee · 20/06/2007 16:07

first movements that I felt were at around 20 weeks. Before that it was wind. But I know lots of people who have felt earlier

JodieG1 · 20/06/2007 16:09

I felt mine before 12 weeks.

bilblio · 20/06/2007 16:16

I felt this baby at about 14/15 weeks. To me it felt like bubbles bursting inside my belly. I thought I was imagining it because everywhere I read said you don't normally feel the first until about 20 weeks. I felt it again a few days later so knew I hadn't made it up.

You might end up like me with a baby that fidgets almost constantly, I'm 36 weeks and this LO is nicknamed Twitch

Dawn2820 · 20/06/2007 16:33

I felt butterflies from around 11 1/2 weeks up until about 15 weeks and then i felt it lots more, its really surreal when you feel them kick, it is different from feeling butterflies which literally feels like trapped wind LOL :O

Naetha · 20/06/2007 16:42

12 weeks with my first, and while I can't feel any movement (other than a bit of wind and difficult bowels) there's a definite feeling of mass there.

When I bend over, or lean over when I've got my legs crossed, there's definitely "something" there.

I slightly overdid it the other night as well - had a large meal, bowels were still misbehaving and I needed a wee and it all felt very cramped in there - much more than normal!

Caz10 · 20/06/2007 17:57

Oh bilblio I am so excited now! 15+2 and today had a very bizarre feeling like a bubble went "pop" below my belly button. Felt a bit like wind, but have never felt anything like it before. Ooooh this could be it!

i felt something at twelve weeks, i'm sure of it. but it was not like butterflies. more like what you'd imagine it to be like if you had a goldfish in your tummy, very occasionally touching the sides and doing a backflip.

bilblio · 20/06/2007 22:14

Caz10 - excited for you, at first I thought, oh it must be wind, then I thought, actually no I've never had any sensation like that before so it can't be wind, it must be the baby. I didn't mention it to anyone until I felt it again a couple of days later though It never felt like a butterfly to me, butterflies are what I get when I'm nervous.

All of you feeling the little flutterings make the most of them. I'm 36 weeks now so I can see my belly move, and there's occasions (like this past hour) when it feels like the LO is determined to kick its way out through the top of my stomach.
This does seem to be a particularly active LO though

wishingfourgotone · 20/06/2007 22:17

I felt my baby move at 11 weeks and she was my first enjoy the little movements as the kicking will certanly keep you up in the night

Caz10 · 22/06/2007 19:17

Just re-reading this and thinking isn't is bizarre the way we all describe the feelings so differently! From bubbles to goldfish to butterflies...do you think we all feel the same thing and just describe it differently, or do you think we all feel something different?!!

wishingfourgotone · 22/06/2007 20:47

think we are all describing the same thing but are feeling it differently iykwim
bit like describing dead leg or pins and needles everyone feels it differntly but all feel the same thing

jellycat · 22/06/2007 20:51

I felt my second move at about 12 weeks - couldn't believe it at first because I didn't feel no. 1 till about 20 weeks. It was a bit like being tickled from inside, IYSWIM . Lovely feeling .

MamaMaiasaura · 23/06/2007 17:32
