Thoughts on baby showers?

I’m sure this has been asked many times, sorry if it has, but what’s your thoughts on a baby shower? If you’ve previously had a baby, did you have one?

I hadn’t really given it thought but a few friends have mentioned helping me plan one, the last three from my group of friends that have been pregnant all had baby showers! They were nice little get together a but the more I think about it, the more I feel that I don’t want the stress, expense and people feeling like they have to buy me a gift! I had just planned to have a bit of a ‘leaving meal’ out with my work colleagues and my mum was going to cook all the family a dinner/have a little buffet and gathering a little while AFTER baby has arrived.

What’s everyone’s thoughts? Will you be having a baby shower?

I'm really not a fan of baby showers and I didn't have one as a result. I went to a mother's blessing which was a kinda hippy version of a baby shower but it's all about the mum rather than the baby. It was probably one of the most beautiful and heartfelt gatherings of women I've ever been a part of and I wish I'd known about it so I could have had one.

There were two ceremonies - a candle one and a wrist tying one...tea and cake, crafty activities and music. It took place in a beautiful field with teepies and scatter cushions. Babies and children welcome.

I was buzzing when I came home. Definitely look up mother's blessing. It wasn't religious.

I'm having one. I'm paying for it and treating all my friends to a lovely afternoon tea and I see it as the last time I'll be able to properly see everyone for a while as the baby will undoubtedly take up a lot of my time once she is here. I've been to them and also thrown them for my friends and everyone usually has a lovely time playing silly games and chatting about baby things. They're only grabby when people have extortionate gift lists (I don't have a gift list, not do I expect gifts) or throw them for second, third fourth, etc babies.
