I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Hi all
I thought I would check in after a few days in hospital trying to get the vomiting under control
I had a really really bad stint from Monday to Thursday but today I've coped better with a more regular rotation of meds starting off with ondesetron and ending the day with cyclising so that I'm having the cyclisine for when I have eaten
How are you all doing?
Does anyone else feel restless with cyclisine but see it as a necessary evil?

I also had a scan after a bit of p

shouldidoitspoilt · 23/11/2018 21:16

Sorry I pressed to soon

Pink discharge which I thought was related to vomiting and retching (which it could be)
The baby is growing on plan at 7wk 2 days yesterday for the scan

But the sonographer send she saw a pocket approx 1cm x 0.8 cm on the side of the womb away from baby which was fluid and could potentially be a bleed? In the future?

Anyone know about this?

shouldidoitspoilt · 23/11/2018 21:20

@eallison88

It sounds like you are having such a time of it.
Totally relatable about opening your mouth and trying not to be sick.
I feel so sorry for you.

Keep strong

MrsReader · 23/11/2018 22:46

Looking for some advice please- I've been sick all day and not kept anything down- even liquids are coming up again. Worried I might be dehydrated.. I've been ok for about 2 weeks tho so don't know if it's a bug?

Should I take my prochlorperazine after it's came back up? Should I call anyone?

eallison88 · 24/11/2018 01:55

mrsreaderI don't think it's recommended to take a dose again, even if you're pretty sure it's come back up. Does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit or similar? If so, I'd suggest ringing them tomorrow for advice re meds/puking, but also dehydration/keeping anything down. It isn't unusual to have a good period followed by a relapse- usually cos we get carried away with feeling better and then do too much!!

shouldi worry, nothing useful to add about the scan; not something I've heard of before. Did sonographer make any reference to repeat scans to monitor?

mauis you felt better in hospital cos your body was at peak hydration! Gives us a false sense of wellness! So it's normal to dip once you're back to managing fluids sip by sip rather than having it pumped direct into your body. Possibly a sign that you need stronger dose of meds - you're taking 4mg 3 times a day, yes? I'd suggest seeing your GP and requesting to up it to 8mg (a standard dose that many of us take - I was on 3 x 8mg daily from week 7 til day I gave birth to my son).

SassehMonsta · 24/11/2018 02:07

@Shouldidoit - that possibly where the pink blood came from. Lots of people seems.to have the odd pocket of blood that bleeds on occasion. I'm sure at 12 week and 20 weeks scan they will either be able to see it and advose you or it will have resolved itself by then. Don't worry if you spot slightly too, as it's likely it's just this draining.

Source of above info - reading other peoples posts on this once they had the same. No medical knowledge beyond my own experiences! Seems.quite common

MrsReader · 24/11/2018 07:54

Thanks @eallison88 I will ring them if my breakfast doesn't stay down as it will be over 24hours of not keeping anything down by then.

Wondering if it's a bug as my DH was ill the thurs night and I started with it the fri morning. We haven't eaten the same foods tho..

MauisLeftNipple · 24/11/2018 08:15

Thanks for the advice eallison. I managed to keep my dinner down. Feel a bit grotty this morning but have just drunk a whole (small) glass of wateted down juice with 30ml lactulose in it. Will see GP Monday if i come unstuck over the next few hours.

shouldi I do find cyclizine can make me a bit jittery. I think I will keep taking it though.

silversplodge · 24/11/2018 09:10

shouldi the bleeding is so terrifying so you have my sympathies. It sounds like possibly a subchorionic haemorrhage, which sounds terrifying but is common. Yours is tiny too, plus away from the baby so won't cause harm, but may possibly give you more bleeding.
It'll probably have disappeared by your 12 week scan, I found the difficult thing with bleeding being knowing if I report every occurance or just assume it's the same thing. I went for reporting every occurance as I was anxious but it did mean I was at the GP or hospital every other day for a while. (My bleeding was for a different reason so no reason to think yours will be that often)
Welcome back Lucinda did you have a good trip?

LucindaE · 24/11/2018 18:04

silversplodge A very nice trip, thank you. But cold with freezing fog.
I hope from your encouraging message to shouldidoitspoilt your own bleeding has tailed off? The bleeding on and off must be really nerve wracking.
MrsReader Did you have to go in? Did you have kesostix to check that you'd reached that 3+ ketones they often insist on? I hope you're feeliing better now, either way. I think MauisLeftNipple said they admitted her with a zero reading, which shows I suppose that they can agree that the ketones thing isn't reliable.
eallison What an infuriating know all doctor. Much sympathy. I am glad you got the meds you needed. To give everyone a laugh, I was once told by a man that 'Women are very crude when men aren't around'. I see...Wink
Hotchocolate I am so glad that the thread helped. You had a dreadful time, and a wearying job. No wonder you were traumitised by it all. I was myself, which I didn't talk about, which is no good.

SassehMonsta I've added you. Sorry that date has been put back.
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone.

Ah, and eallison I wanted to sympathise about that doctor offering you a termination as a start for the talk; not sensitive; even if it is a legal obligation they can do it later; and shouldidoitspoilt much sympathies about being stuck in hospital for days.
and MauisLeftNipple I hope the relapse is short lived.

@LucindaE I managed to keep food and drink down today thankfully, so I think I'll be ok now! Just trying to drink plenty

eallison88 · 24/11/2018 19:39

mrsreader I'm glad you've had a more settled day :)

I'm certainly better for the stronger steroids, just need to keep reminding myself not to get carried away and do too much!

eallison88 · 24/11/2018 20:20

For years and years I've suffered from geographic tongue when I'm run down and stressed (basically I sort of end up with balld patches on my tongue that sting like hell). Tends to last a week or so, makes eating painful and generally is crap. So, obviously my body is as run down as its ever been right now.... So of course I've been struck down. And the really frustrating thing is that the foods and drinks I'm most able to eat/drink at the moment are pretty acidic and this really aggravated my tongue. It's really wearing me down.

Also, has anyone found that the longer they are taking drugs, the harder you're finding it to actually swallow? Across 24 hours I'm having to take 22 pills and it's getting really hard to physically swallow them. Not really sure what I can do...

MauisLeftNipple · 24/11/2018 21:35

Thanks Lucinda. I am still feeling slightly dodgy but still no vomiting. Alternating ondansetron and cyclizine every 3 hours during the day. And yes you were almost correct about my ketones on admission: my GP sent me in with 1+. After 2-3 hours sitting around a&e I believe it leapt up to 4 though. They were still high after 1.25L fluids, however back to zero in the morning so they chucked me out pretty quickly!

eallison that sounds really tough. I have no advice re food as am eating mostly bland stuff. I do find it easier to take my tablets with juice straight out of the fridge. Thank goodness the ondansetron is tiny!

Reastie · 25/11/2018 07:24

Re tablets I can’t swallow tablets so I have to eat them. I take them with food to help with the taste. Cyclizine tastes the worst! I asked my gp if that made them less effective and she said not as itllmstill get in me, so if you get desperate you could try that eal, or else crunch them up and mix with something you can tolerate to eat (my mum did this to me as a child and out it in jam but I realise jam might not be something you can manage.

Had scan yesterday and all good so I can breathe a little bit! But felt awful afterwards with the exertion of getting to the apt and back.

Mauis poor you.

This too shall pass

eallison88 · 25/11/2018 07:41

Steroid induced insomnia is a real barrel of laughs.... I basically woke up every 45 minutes last night and then took ages to settle back to sleep. beanhunter have you had problems with sleep/steroids?

beanhunter · 25/11/2018 08:05

Yes. Had awful insomnia. The only good thing about not being on them is that my sleep is better. I was getting 3hrs on a good night.

eallison88 · 25/11/2018 09:17

Ok. Well, at least I know what to expect..! It is still better than all the puking and constant nausea!!

Reastie · 25/11/2018 09:24

I had such a rubbish evening yesterday after having the effort to get to the scan and today still feel terrible. I’m assuming it’s after the effort of scan taking it out of me. Please tell me it’ll be short lived if I rest?

silversplodge · 25/11/2018 11:34

Lucinda touch wood, yes the bleeding has stopped since the polyp was removed thank goodness.
I've been a bit superstitious about adding myself to the due date list but it's probably time, mine is 4th April x

eallison88 · 25/11/2018 12:13

reastie it's almost certainly your body is reacting against you doing more. Happens to Us all at least once!! Take things as easy as you can today.

silver glad spotting has stopped.

LucindaE · 25/11/2018 19:39

Reastie I so agree with others. I am sure it is overdoing it and resting will really help. Good advice on the getting down pills front. Congratulations on your scan result. That's nice, anyway!
MrsReader So glad you managed to k eep down food and drink.
beanhunter and eallison I didn't realise that steroids cause insomnia. That sounds awful. eallison And so does the 'geographic tongue'.

MauisLeftNipple Where did I get the idea it was zero ketones? Four sounds dreadful in a few hours.
silversplodge I am so glad that the bleeding has hopefully gone away. I've added you.
TwoDrfiters That date is so near! How are things?

So steroids and insomnia.. last night I tried staying up later and taking the steroids just before going to bed. So I took them at 11 and went to bed. Slept thru til 4ish, then fell asleep again til son woke us up 6.15. This also meant I didn't have to set an alarm to take my next dose in the middle of the night (8hourly). Gonna try this again tonight and for it wasn't a fluke. I've been waking hubby up too, which was part of the decision to stay out of bed as late as poss- he went to bed at 8.30 and slept til I came up. He is being an absolute rock, but I can see he is really struggling. He's exhausted, single parenting as well as caring for me, and work is particularly stressful at the moment. I hate that there is so little I can do to help him.
