Shorter mums and weight of baby at birth

Just curious as to whether the mother's and father's height affects the weight of a newborn. I'm 5.2 and DH is 6.2 - I was 6lbs5 at birth he was 8lbs..... Any short mums out there who can share their experiences? I'm banking on the logic that mother nature wouldn't allow women to grow a baby that was too big for them...

Cosmo - hope this helps...

Me 5ft 2, small-ish build.
DH 6ft4, huge build.

dc1 5lb 11oz
dc2 5lb 8oz
dc3 6lb 8oz

All 40 weeks +

Hwr, I was only 5lb at birth, so I assumed as a small baby myself, I would have small babies too...

I WAS worried that I would have huge babies when I was pg with dd1, hwr, in the end I had scans as they thought she was too small. All 3 were 'small for dates' and 'suspected IUGR' on my notes, but in reality, were just perfect for me. I did notice the difference between babies 2 and 3 when they were in utero though lol! That extra lb inside is a lot when you are used to small babies, although it made no difference coming out .

me23 · 11/06/2007 16:49

I'm 5ft 2 dd dad is 5ft 9 dd was born at 38+5 days weighing 6.7 pounds.

Olissa · 11/06/2007 16:58

I'm a little under 5 foot, I was 7lb 15oz at birth. My DH is 6'2" and he weighed 8lb 4oz at birth. My DS was 8lb 8oz, so bigger than either of us - but he was 15 days late which might have had something to do with it!
