So im a size 22/24 with a v high bmi of 48..(im 5ft 2) and im trying to eat healthier and ive actually lost 3kg since finding out (woop)

Im worried ive not felt my baby move yet? Im 19weeks today
Its my first so ive got no reference point for what to feel for.
My mam (whos a nurse) says normally 22 weeks but everything ive read says i should feel now???

Am i panicking for nothing or should I call the midwife?

I was a big too (BMI 43) and felt baby about 18 weeks but didn't know I had IFYSWIM? I had a few feelings but until they were stronger later I didn't correctly identify them.

It couldn't hurt to contact your mw if you are feeling anxious about it and hopefully they will put your mind at rest.

All the best for the rest of your pregnancy and birth Smile

Prembabymum · 11/09/2018 17:06

Always best to get checked out if youre unsure but with my first I'm sure I didnt feel him until 20-something weeks?

sirmione16 · 11/09/2018 17:14

I'm a size 10, and nearly 21 weeks and haven't felt anything significant yet but heard heart beat strong and fine last week so I really wouldn't worry. 19 weeks is apparently juuuust about when you may feel them, apparently is more like 20-22. This is according to doctors and the pregnancy apps :)

Mumu0 · 11/09/2018 17:17

My lmp was nov 9 and today sep 11 i had hpt with faint line..am i pregnant??i had miscarriage before 4 month..so I am worried...

Havetothink · 11/09/2018 17:45

It can depend where the placenta is, if it's at the front you will feel baby move later and possibly less than you would if it's at the back. My first was an anterior placenta (at front) and I didn't feel anything until a couple of weeks after the 20 week scan.

CrabbyPatty · 11/09/2018 17:49

I'm a size 8 and 19 weeks tomorrow and unsure if I've felt anything. Heard heart beat on the midwife's Doppler today. I've had some flutters but I'm not sure if its wind as I have always had a gurgley belly. I think its quite normal at this stage particularly with first pregnancies.

Liz3891 · 11/09/2018 17:57

In retrospect I felt little bits around 19 weeks (felt like little muscle spasms). Around 20ish I could feel a little bit if I lay on my stomach. It wasn't until say 23/24 weeks that I was feeling strong, proper movements.

captainshortie · 11/09/2018 18:23

Oh thank god, at least im not the only one!!
I know we're all different, wish all these apps would phrase it differently.
According to them i shouldve felt something weeks ago xx

Should i still ring my midwife? Just to be sure do you think? Xx

With my first I didn't feel anything until around 22 weeks. Booking BMI was probably about 30

I'd wait a few more weeks OP and try not to worry

sirmione16 · 11/09/2018 22:02

Midwife will just say there's nothing to worry about and it's still early. Perhaps wait 2 more weeks.

Plus it's Sod's law the minute you ring, you'll feel something the next day! Grin

captainshortie · 12/09/2018 18:10

I tried calling my community midwife twice today just to put my mind at ease and nobodys called me back Sad

My mam says its probably due to me being bigger anyway, but I honestly get so worried. Got my 20 week scan on 19th and cant wait to see my LO on the screen again Bear

Size 22 here. I didn't feel DS till 22 weeks! I wouldn't stress too much. You'll have your 20 week scan soon to reassure you.

Pinky333777 · 12/09/2018 18:24

I was about 25 weeks before I felt anything. I wouldn't worry.
But it's always good to discuss any concerns with your midwife x

ty1996 · 12/09/2018 18:33

I was 22 weeks before I felt anything and it wasn't obvious moving or anything that I could feel, just little flutters

lifechangesforever · 12/09/2018 18:37

I didn't feel anything until about 23 weeks.. I was a size 16 pre-pregnancy.

Midwives are not worried until around 27 weeks so you've got plenty time yet. It will happen, just have to be patient Smile

Do you know where your placenta is? Mine was anterior so that's why it was later too.

NCPuffin · 12/09/2018 18:41

It's fine! At my 20 week scan they asked if I'd felt the baby, so I presume lots of women haven't by that point (I had, but not much).

Sallycinnamon17 · 12/09/2018 18:44

I’m a size 10/12 and didn’t feel DD move/kick until about 22 weeks. We’d seen her wiggling away on scans at 10, 12 and 20 weeks but she must have been tucked up nicely so I couldn’t feel her. I thought I felt her at about 20 weeks when lay on my side but only briefly. Once I’d felt the first kick it was constant.

captainshortie · 12/09/2018 18:58

Yeah Im counting down the minutes to next week!
I dont know where my placenta is :(
Sonographer didnt mention it and its not in my notes either.l

So reassuring anyway to hear other women are the same!
I also feel as though ive "potentially" felt something but it goes as soon as I focus on it and half the time I think im looking too hard and my minds playing tricks on me haha!

wheezing · 12/09/2018 19:08

I am a size 8 and I remember at my 20 week scan my baby was super active and the sonographer said “you must feel this a lot right now”. I didn’t feel anything.
I felt a tiny kick at 19 weeks and maybe felt someone every few days so at 20 week scan I’d barely felt anything. Probably reliably felt kicks from 21-22 weeks.

I honestly don’t think there is much your midwife can do and you have a scan soon. It’s nerve racking though.

wheezing · 12/09/2018 19:09

You’ll find out where the placenta is at the next scan presumably also.

Dal8257 · 12/09/2018 19:26

I don’t think you need to worry at all. I’m size 8, posterior placenta and didn’t feel anything definite until a couple weeks after my 20 week scan (even though like previous posters said I could see the baby wriggling around during the scan).

captainshortie · 12/09/2018 20:17

I think thats the worst thing, at my 16 week midwife app she listened with the dopla and mentioned baby was very active and kept moving about (complete opppsite to me, if i move any slower id be a sloth ahah) so I thought i may of felt something.
I cant feel my uterus either - keep getting told to feel for a ball(?) But i deffo put that one down to my size

Harrypotterfan1604 · 12/09/2018 20:24

I’m 24 weeks now and have had movement for about a week but only just realised it. It’s only flutters still but I have an anterior placenta which means it’s in front of baby nakingnit harder to feel movement anyway. My bmi is 36.
I was worrying too but it happens at different times for everyone.
Try not to worry too your next scan will soon be here

captainshortie · 13/09/2018 11:33

I got through to the community midwife today who said Im more than welcome to call antenatal team and theyll have a listen.
So im going down to antenatal clinic at about half 2.
I think ive just gotten inside my own head but if it puts my mind at ease ill take it.
Wish me luck guys! Ill post back letting you know how crazy ive been haha!

@captainshortie

I'm the same size as you and 21+2 with anterior placenta (at the front) and I have not felt a thing other than a few rolling type feelings that may be the baby but could also be digestion.

Had 20w scan last week and the baby was literally bouncing off the walls and rolling about and twisting and turning and I didn't feel a thing, despite what I could see on the screen!

If I don't feel anything by about 24w I'll start to worry, but to be fair apart from the trousers being slightly tighter and the hormone fluctuations, I forget I am pregnant half the time!
