Oh @Brews 🙈 sounds stressful. I'd be roping in as many other people as possible and taking a coordinating role!

shallen · 09/10/2018 20:14

Saw this in a Facebook page I'm on, it explains a lot about what I'm feeling, feel like she is raving sometimes!!

www.facebook.com/karuturi/videos/10160793764615300/

AnotherOriginalUsername · 09/10/2018 20:34

I've seen that too @shallen. Baby literally hasn't stopped today, it's like he's having a party in there!

Melaniesunflower · 09/10/2018 22:03

BrewsD, I. Very similar to you!! 32+4, 3.5 weeks to work, and moving in 2-3 weeks! I'm definitely more stressed about moving than baby at the moment, although as soon as I've moved I know that will change, as I feel very unorganised

shallen · 09/10/2018 22:41

Random question, but is anyone's other halves/birth partners taking time off around due date before baby makes an appearance?

The reason I ask is that my dh has a commute of at least an hour (up to 2 through the day as trains are slower/less frequent).
I'm having a bit of a freak out that if I go into labour when he is at work, then I could have a 2 hour wait for him to get home then another 30-40 mins to get to hospital.

His work are being funny about him working from home even though he frequently does anyway.

Part of me thinks I'm being a bit dense and that it will take hours anyway, so worrying over 2.5 hours on my own is silly. But my mum was fast with me and bro so I worry i might be the same.

Interested to see what others approach is.
Ta.

Melaniesunflower · 09/10/2018 22:57

We're lucky, DH works for a really small company (4, including him), so they know he'll be either working in the office (30 minute drive if traffic ok) or from home. All the customers he regularly visits, that have long journeys to them know that in the next few weeks they probably won't see him till the new year.

orangejuicer · 09/10/2018 23:12

No plans at the moment for OH to take leave before labour. He'd be 30-40 mins from home and the same back to hospital.

I'm 32+6 and nowhere near ready Smile

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/10/2018 01:10

@shallen early labour can take days, you get a fair amount of warning, it's generally second stage labour where people have things happen quickly. I'd just make sure you have a back up in terms of how to get to hospital if your partner is delayed getting home (friend, relative, taxi with some cash in your bag ready etc). Realistically, baby could arrive anywhere between 36-42 weeks so the chances of you guessing correctly are slim! Your NCT classes will put your mind at rest about this, I'm sure

Italianshark · 10/10/2018 10:51

@shallen the thought was worrying me too, as OH has a contract in central London throughout November whereas the past few months have been in Hertfordshire where we live! Shit luck that is. But like @AnotherOriginalUsername said - your antenatal/NCT classes will put your mind at rest about that because you'll get your warning and it could be days before. I mean granted, you could get no warning. My mum had silent labour until she was 6+cm so had to rush to the hospital all 3 times and I could be the same! lol but the likelihood is with your first, you will have a good few hours or days where you'll be in the latent phase with just back ache and reaaaalllyyyyy irregular contractions.

BrewsD · 10/10/2018 11:30

@Melaniesunflower wow we are similar... or just both crazy! We've had so much stress over this house I'm certain it's going to send me into early labour 😂
@shallen I had similar worries, it could take my partner an hour to get home plus about 30mins more to get to hospital & is often uncontactable for hours in meetings. Having nightmares about asking his dad to rush me down to hospital in labour... Mortified.

shallen · 10/10/2018 17:30

@BrewsD maybe his dad can be your stand in birthing partner?! 😂

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/10/2018 17:37

Been trying to get organised today. So. Many. Clothes!

orangejuicer · 10/10/2018 17:42

Quick question about clothes - do you need to wash everything before first use? I have a load of things which came from friends etc - do I need to re-wash these?

BrewsD · 10/10/2018 18:09

Can you imagine @shallen 😂 never again show my face around the in laws!

I've decided to wash almost everything @orangejuicer just to freshen up any handed down clothes we've gotten from friends & incase any new clothes have something nasty on them. There's probably no need but just for my own peace of mind.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/10/2018 18:49

Everyone I've spoken to has said to wash everything, even my no nonsense farmer colleague

hammeringinmyhead · 10/10/2018 22:41

I'm washing them all in the same Tesco baby liquid detergent stuff. DH is allergic to bio so baby may be too.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 11/10/2018 12:23

We have a lampshade and curtains!

EL332 · 11/10/2018 12:35

@AnotherOriginalUsername that's so lovely!

Good luck to those of you moving house - I'm sure it will all feel so worth it when you're all nested with the tiny ones 💕

After various midwives, GP, two trips to the day unit and a chat with one of the consultants I am now officially signed off at 33 weeks... I didn't realise how much the stress of work was impacting on me...

Now I need to make 7000 lists of all the things I need to get done before he arrives.

I definitely need to wash all his things ... and then decide what to pack in my hospital bag and buy the last few bits for in there...

I think I have most bits I need for him now... I've been very lucky with hand me downs from friends who have recently had babies so have saved so much with recycling 👍🏼

I have another growth scan and consultant appointment Monday and will spend some more time having my blood pressure monitored and we also start our ante natal classes Monday so it's going to be a busy one!

Hope being stress-free helps @EL332 although I guess it's just a different kind of stress now!

I've got the curtains and lampshade up, and many, many clothes washed, sorted by size and put away (I swear I could easily kit out quadruplets for the first 6 months!). Hoping to get baby's hospital bag packed today (got all that stuff, still need quite a bit for mine!), our bed changed (super king-size, no easy job doing it solo when not 32 weeks pregnant!), do a couple of loads of laundry and then I'll be happy. Oh, and convince the dog that he can walk in the rain and it won't kill him.....!

Kt2108 · 11/10/2018 13:54

How much/what bits for babies are you all taking in hospital bag? I was reading 5-10 vests/sleepsuits. So 5x newborn and 5x 0-1 month of each?

Totally lost- have no idea how big it is in there! X

AnotherOriginalUsername · 11/10/2018 14:01

I'm going to be taking predominantly newborn/up to 1 month (I have a lot of stuff from Next in that size). Probably 5 complete outfits but with husband knowing where to find spares at home (I'm in for minimum 5d afterwards). Figure he can bring things home to wash and bring back new supplies (clothes, nappies etc.) the next day.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 11/10/2018 14:02

Oh and I'll take one 0-3 month outfit and husband can bring more if necessary but think most babies would be swamped by clothes of that size initially

Kt2108 · 11/10/2018 14:19

Its such a minefield I have no idea what quantity of things to take 😩

BrewsD · 11/10/2018 14:36

I've packed 6 babygrows and vests to be safe (does this sound excessive?!) all aged up to 1month, two blankies, two little towels and my grandmothers knitted cardigans and mittens. Mother in law has made a little "newborn hamper" with nappies and creams etc. so that will come too.

My own bag is getting there, picked up some bits like breast pads, cheap/disposable knickers, maternity pads, face cloth, slippers... the list keeps growing but it's so hard to know what you'll actually need!

Come down with a flu the week before I'm due the flu jab (typical) feeling very guilty about calling in sick to work.

hammeringinmyhead · 11/10/2018 15:30

We have three plain white vests, three plain white babygros (all newborn size), a stripy newborn babygro to come home in, cardi, hat, 2 blankets, scratch mitts (only one pair as the white ones have built-in mitts). We'll take a bag for the car with 2 spare vests and 2 spare babygros in up to 1 month, in case he's bigger than 7.5lbs.
