Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

TBH..i think we have passed the horribleness of some posters now and we are on to a lovely discussion of names aren't we?

MissTea4Me · 06/06/2007 20:56

Desiderata, Play Misty for Me

80sMum · 06/06/2007 20:59

Also, rather shocked to learn that some people have never heard of Inigo Jones! How could that have happened? Anyway, for those that haven't, here he is.

MissTea4Me · 06/06/2007 20:59

... and it's not actually the name of the stalker, it's the song she always asks Clint Eastwood to play on the radio.

80smum - I have heard of Inigo Jones and his achievements. Unfortunately, history is not a hot subject for many people (but me and obviously you ... and certain others).

Yes, Play Misty for me. What a great film that was.

dinny · 06/06/2007 21:14

think you have met my friend's Inigo, Hatrick?

dinny · 06/06/2007 21:15

my friend (with an Inigo) was saying there are two camps of people - the first go, "Oh, Inigo Jones!" when she says his name and the second go, "Eh, Indigo? Funny name for a boy."

oooh, lovely

Pollyanna · 06/06/2007 21:26

I'm sorry that you're offended taylorsmummy (and others), but I can't see why - you like the name and that's all that matters. My ds's name is on this thread and I don't care a jot to be honest. there will always be people who dislike the name.

and whoever said that you shoudn't judge a child on his/her name - I really don't think you can avoid making judgments on a child's background etc based on the name before you meet them and surely it is not contraversial to say that there are trends in name calling - I would say that it is more middle class to call your child sebastian, imogen and Jesse (for example) etc surely no one would dispute this would they? I can't see that this is contraversial?

VoodooMama · 06/06/2007 21:33

interesting discussion...

at school in the 1980s all of the naughty boys were called
Gordon (three of them)
Graham (two of them)
Wayne (two of them)

There were two called 'Lee' and they were both good at football
Go figure!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/06/2007 21:34

Inigo was also an MTV presenter about 15 years ago

VoodooMama · 06/06/2007 21:35

theres an MTV presenter now called 'Shanther'
Im sure its actually spelt with an 'X'
I like it

Blandmum · 06/06/2007 21:36

I met a stonkingly good looking chap at university and his name was Jesse. He had a brother called Wyatt. His father was a cowboy film/book addict.

Thread hijack. Very rude. But I'm watching The Apprentice.

Reptilian twunts. All of 'em.

nightowl · 06/06/2007 21:45

pollyanna,
that was me.

i said you cant judge a child on their name.

its not ok to do so. my child has a name considered to be chavvy, fine..im probably on the borderline myself in many people's eyes!

but he has been brought up with manners, he is not a little thug, he doesnt misbehave. my ds is a lovely child. it is unreasonable to think that he would be anything else just by hearing his name. yes, i do resent the assumption that he will be anything but what he is. its ridiculous to think that a child with a certain name will grow up in a certain way.

my dd by comparison has what i would consider to be a middle class name. does that mean she should be treated differently from my ds? i dont think so no.

we are the adults and we should know better.

Chelseamum · 06/06/2007 21:50

Well ladies,

LOLA is now a fashionable name in the UK.

It is a variation of a Spanish name called

DOLORES meaning PAIN!

Not cool in my eyes!

Desiderata · 06/06/2007 21:50

nightowl, I feel for you. I really do. I didn't come into this thread at the beginning, and at no point have I made a personal comment on a child's name, unless positive.

My childs surname is so appalling that I wouldn't even if I was so inclined.

But even if I had, it's not dissing the child. If anything has been happening here (earlier down the thread), it's about dissing the parent.

Children have no choice over the name they're given.
