Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

i do loathe the sneering. you are talking about the names parents chose with love and hope and it is just plain shitty to jeer from teh safety of behind your little screens.

missgriss · 06/06/2007 20:12

My son's name has been ridiculed on this thread. I don't care, I like it and that's all that matters. If DH had got his way he would have been Sol, and that is infinitely worse

(Disclaimer: apologies to anyone who knows a Sol. I just couldn't imiagine myself calling 'Sol' across the school playground!!)

Sol is lovely. there is a sol in my twins class. It is an excellent name!

Blu · 06/06/2007 20:15

It is completely obnoxious to be sneery about names that other poeple choose for their children, and worse to make sweeping assumptions about children because of their names....so i'm not sure why taylorsmummy is being told to pipe down. But the thread is transmogrifying into comedy combos - see that as a thread rescued!

TheMaskedPoster · 06/06/2007 20:15

hey Fio ... at least our dd's name doesn't seem to crop up in these threads aye!!

not that I am partaking in this thread you must see ....

dinny · 06/06/2007 20:16

odd? it's an old Spanish name meaning mercy - probably weren't thinking of the car when they named her!

Pruuni · 06/06/2007 20:16

OTOH - none of us names a child in the sure and certain knowledge that the name won't be ridiculed - esp with all those postnatal hormones flying around. I really couldn't give a stuff if a bunch of anonymous people find a name I've chosen funny. I have a thick skin about it.

Blandmum · 06/06/2007 20:16

Fishie, but if they chose Mike to go with the surname Hunt with love etc, do you not think that they also did it with a significant lack of common sense?

missgriss · 06/06/2007 20:16

I just didn't like it for my DS. Maybe my taste is just a bit more...common

Bodkin · 06/06/2007 20:16

A friend of a friend started a new job and had to phone a client who's name she couldn't quite remember. All she knew was it sounded like a rude word, but with an "L" in it. So she gets through to the receptionist at the company where the client is based and says "Er, hello, could I speak to, ummm, Mr Fluck please?" There is a long pause at the other end, and then the receptionist says "I'm sorry, there is noone here with that name. Do you mean Mr. Clunt?"

Pruuni · 06/06/2007 20:17

blu it was the class digs that didn't go down well

morningpaper · 06/06/2007 20:18

really Dinny I did not know that

I have a friend called Bentley

Idobelieveinfairies · 06/06/2007 20:19

You don't have to like it..would be boring if we all chose the same name eh!

Blandmum · 06/06/2007 20:21

My father told me about a family called Diamond that lived where he did when he was a child. They called all their dds after precious stones, There was a Diamond Diamond, Ruby, Pearl and Emerald.

bettybobo · 06/06/2007 20:22

lol bodkin i hope that happened cheered me up a bit

Spider · 06/06/2007 20:22

I don't like ridiculing the name choices of others. It's a sensitive subject. BUT Taylorsmummy I don't think it's a class issue unless you want to make it one which you seem to want to.

TaylorsMummy · 06/06/2007 20:23

it was allgonebellyups post that made me think that way.sorry if i've got it wrong but those posts seemed to be strongly implying it.re read them and see what you think.

fishie · 06/06/2007 20:24

well yes mb sometimes people are just downright stupid, but that is another matter and it isn't a funny names thread, it is about belittling other people choices. and all the class stuff makes them sound like ninnies, it is all making me far too cross.

and i really don't care what people are called (unless it is mike hunt, when i will be jostling to front pointing and sniggering and really good ones where people get married and end up called helen melon or whatever)

AttilaTheMum · 06/06/2007 20:25

At DS's playgroup (16 years ago) there was Hayley, Kayleigh, Keeley, Kylie and Carly.
I was rather confusing.
