Third trimester - knickers!

I'm 29 weeks and I need to admit defeat on my pre-pregnancy knickers, they are cutting into me horribly.

When I'm at home I've taken to wearing DHs boxers, but I can't wear them at work (corporate dress and they go funny under tights, all rucked up around the gusset).

I can't afford to buy expensive knickers to last the next 10 or so weeks plus that post birth bit when you're holding in an industrial pad.

Recommendations for your comfiest, cheap 3rd trimester knickers please!

In my last pregnancy I found some cheap in asda. I think they only sell maternity clothes online

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2018 12:28

Big black multipack cheapos from Primark. Size up. Also handy post birth when things are still a bit messy and stomsvk still swollen.

Annalogy · 13/08/2018 12:31

I agree with @BikeRunSki I bought the same and they're still working wonders at 3 months PP GrinBlush

passthenutella · 13/08/2018 12:31

I got the next size up in asda full briefs. Something like £4 a pack. I still buy them now and my baby is 3 Blush

Jozxyqk · 13/08/2018 12:37

I bought about 10 pairs of massive maxi/granny pants from the supermarket - the ones that come up to your natural waist line. About least one size larger than I needed at the time, on the basis of a) comfort, & b) continuing expansion. They were good for after the birth, too. All in black, good for post birth bleeding. All binned about 3 months after I'd given birth. Much cheaper & better than buying the horrid paper things.

My Primark granny pants lasted through the last weeks and immediate aftermath of both my pregnancies.

ReginaPhalange89 · 13/08/2018 12:44

I got all mine from Asda ! Cheap but better quality than Primark

Honeybee79 · 13/08/2018 12:46

I got massive cotton full briefs from asda. Really cheap so didn't matter when I bled all over them after birth. Will be doing the same this time.

SophieStripe · 13/08/2018 12:53

If you wear tights can u buy tights with the built in gusset bit and just go commando?!

usernotfound0000 · 13/08/2018 13:14

You'e done well to last until now, I gave up on mine about 12 weeks! I've found H&M the best for maternity ones, but they are pricey, alternatively I bought some big old granny pants a few sizes bigger.

SeriousSeal · 13/08/2018 14:44

Like PPs, I bought cheap full-brief multipacks from supermarkets in a size or two up (I normally wear a 12, got 16-18). Morrisons have been my favourite.

Now I'm overdue, I don't even wear the knickers over my bump anymore, just pulled up enough to keep me decent in case my leggings ride down. Grin

dinosaurkisses · 13/08/2018 14:47

I wore my trusty M&S bikini cut knickers the whole way through- the lower cut just goes under the bump, so there’s nothing to pull up or adjust round the bump

happymummy12345 · 13/08/2018 14:49

I wore normal bikini style ones the whole way through. For after the birth I got back full briefs in primark.

GuruK · 13/08/2018 15:01

I got these, very comfy and worked brilliantly for after the birth too.

NelleB · 13/08/2018 15:03

I’ve gone for M&S full briefs in a 16. They’re enormous comfy and cheap. £7 for 5 pairs I think. Handy for after labour as they’re massive and incase I need a section they won’t rub

wejammin · 13/08/2018 15:05

Sounds like Bridget Jones style pants might be the way forward! There's a market stall near me that does multi pack huge knickers, I might give them a look.

@SophieStripe I'm already wearing a liner for significant discharge (nice) so commando not an option!!

I went for m&s bikini cut too in a multipack of 7 I think. They just went under the bump and were really comfy. For after giving birth I got massive black higher waisted multipack m&s ones in 2-3 sizes bigger. They were total bliss for the first few post baby weeks. But I did enjoy throwing them away after that!

Nat6999 · 13/08/2018 15:33

I wore Mothercare maternity Thongs when I was pregnant, they are comfy under your bump & not like cheesewire at the back, I wore these for ages afterwards until I realised that I'd lost so much weight I didn't need them, for about the last month of being pregnant & for the time I needed maternity pads I wore M & S high leg briefs just a couple of sizes bigger in black, they were cotton with lycra, stood up to being boil washed to get rid of leaks.

Pinkvoid · 13/08/2018 19:03

I’ve been wearing M&S full briefs since I was about 16 weeks pregnant. £7 for a pack of 5.

Grimbles · 13/08/2018 19:41

I've got some seam free ones that I got from m&s - they are made from a silky type elasticated material that is super stretchy.

splendidsqueak7 · 13/08/2018 20:05

Another vote here for M&S! I think mine are some sort of low-rise short, but 2 sizes bigger than pre-bump, and in a sort of stretchy-no-vpl elasticy material. Sooooo comfy!! I did also shellout on some Jojo Maman Bebe black maternity undies with pretty lace bits - but there is no comparison on comfort (when I first opened the pack of Jojo knickers I exclaimed ‘has Jojo Maman Bebe ever even MET a pregnant woman?!’) I suspect I’ll be wearing my M&S undies for a while after baby arrives.

surreygirl1987 · 13/08/2018 21:55

You've done really well to last until now! I discarded my skimpy 8-10 pants in favour of primark size 16s months ago, much to my husband's horror! The cotton Primark ones have been great for me.

cockneymama2018 · 13/08/2018 22:59

tesco's F&F several sizes up! I bought size 16s and was originally a size 8. ban tight things!

Angelmiracle · 13/08/2018 23:12

Another fan of Primark full briefs in black 😂

BlueBug45 · 14/08/2018 00:51

Sorry OP not sure what you mean - I'm wearing the same range and size of knickers I wore before pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks. However I always wear my knickers on my hips regardless of style.

All I've been warned is that I need to go up a size or two for maternity pads after birth by friends' who did the same as me plus to get cheap or paper knickers so they can be thrown away if the leaks are too bad.
