I like all of those, tho Olive maybe a bit old-ladish (but then I like that).

Clare esp (kind of my middle name) and don't know any at all.
Know a few Naomis but one was my lovely childminder so that's great.

Clary · 02/06/2007 23:52

sorry old-ladyish I meant.

Otter · 02/06/2007 23:53

people always baulk at the 'different' old ladyish names when people are brave enough to first use them - then 5 years on they are top 20!

Clary · 02/06/2007 23:55

Yeah Otter that's what we did with DD

Now they are appearing left right and centre (well not really but I spotted a baby DD in the paper the other week)

My mum still thinks it sounds old-fashioned tho

olive just is NOT olive oil

(actually watching Little miss sunshine - Olive a little girl in that)

jennifersofia · 03/06/2007 00:08

I like Olive (know a 4 yr old one) but think it sort of depends on the child e.g. I don't think it would suit my very pale blond airy fairy daughter.
Clara - okay
Naomi - like it
Eloise - sorry, reminds me too much of American book series of a spoiled atrocioius precocious brat. (Appologies to all Eloise book lovers, just took against it myself)

nachomama · 03/06/2007 00:09

Sorry again for thread-hijack

Thanks for the reply, TwoIfBySea. I'm going home to Boston and to Maine in just 6 weeks. I'll give Cape Ann a shout for you as I drive past the exit. Is your name a Longfellow reference or just from the generic historical angle?

Sorry BagLady- has the thread about these names helped? What's your current favourite?

TwoIfBySea · 03/06/2007 00:41

I was trying to be witty, I have twins, and also a nod to old Paul Revere as well as my time there had a huge influence on my life. I always liked the phrase for some odd reason - I am an odd person!

TwoIfBySea · 03/06/2007 00:42

Oh and another literary reference -

Clara, the little girl Heidi is sent to live with.

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 00:46

I like Clara, Naomi and Eloise, in that order I think.

Not keen on Olive.

No, in fact actively dislike Olive.

TaylorsMummy · 03/06/2007 09:38

eloise is the best out of those,i think. not olive!!

belgo · 03/06/2007 09:40

Clara and Eloise are lovely. Not keen on Olive.

Nbg · 03/06/2007 09:42

lol

I like Olive. Think it would really suit a little girl.

Dont like the others.
Eloise becoming far too popular now.
Clara is a bit bleurghhh
Naomi reminds me of Naomi Campbell who I hate.

nachomama · 03/06/2007 10:25

Thanks TwoIfBySea. You've satisfied my curiosity (I get quite homesick sometimes)
xx nachomama aka OneIfByLand

All the best with your name choices BagLady. I hope you'll let us know what you've chosen.

BagLady75 · 03/06/2007 10:50

Thanks everyone - I think I am leaning towards Eloise with Clara running a close second - but I wanted to get a local perspective as I only recently moved to the UK.

Actually though this is my third, and for my last 2 after I spent MONTHS thinking of names, DH came up with great names about a week before the birth ...

Anyway, thanks again for the input and keep it coming if you have any more thoughts!

I know a little girl called Olive- great for anagrams.

When she is being sweet, her parents call her "I Love".

When she is horrid, she is the "Evil O".

oliveoil · 03/06/2007 20:34

Olive - lovely (biased, moi?)
Clara - hmmmmm
Naomi - Milkshake!
Eloise - hmmmmm

Bouquetsofdynomite · 03/06/2007 20:35

Olive - As an Olivia, I hate this as one of the very few Olivias around (once upon a time) people simply couldn't pronounce my name. I also hate Oliver for the same reason.
Clara - Love it
Naomi - s'all right, not v exciting
Eloise - ditto, bit more romantic than Naomi.

Otter · 03/06/2007 20:36

Hatrick you need a miranda

pointydog · 03/06/2007 20:40

Olive - are you kidding?
Clara - quite like it, bit posh, nutcracker, yep
Naomi - nice sound to it
Eloise - The Damned
