@Laney79 I say to get it. You can never guarantee any pregnancy will end in a baby coming home, so I don’t think it is realistic to never buy anything just in case.

Alicejj8x · 06/09/2018 09:09

@zarala
100% recommend this :)

I may try breast feeding too I'm
So unsure but wanted one for just incase xx

Alicejj8x · 06/09/2018 09:09

@HidCat
Yeah that's true :) thanks x

Patienceofatoddler · 06/09/2018 09:32

@Alicejj8x if your considering breast feeding then I definitely recommend checking out any local support facilities / groups local to you including online (FB) ones.

I found the support (even just online) hugely beneficial in the first few weeks.

Knowing where to turn for help / having that support network figured out in advance can be hugely beneficial.

Patienceofatoddler · 06/09/2018 10:02

Has anyone on this group Breast Fed before?

Or looking to Breast Feed?

I combi fed my first and breast fed my second and it was incredibly rewarding.

It's one of the things I am most excited about already to be honest Blush

I found it so so tough first time round (undiagnosed tongue tie) which made it a huge accomplishment when we got it right 2nd time round.

It has crossed my mind the pressure is on a bit though this time as I have the expectation now that 'I can' but every baby / situation is different.

Alicejj8x · 06/09/2018 13:29

@Patienceofatoddler
Thank you so much I shall defo look into this :)

I had my Mw today and she told me o can also book into some classes for breast feeding

Had my 16 week midwife today :)
She listened to the HB and found it easily :) feeling so relived and happy even thou I have Doppler at home it's nice to know what I find at home is defo baby 😊
Now need to book in whooping cough jab and GP for 25 weeks and then back to MW for 28 weeks

MrBull · 06/09/2018 16:46

I've breastfed before, x2 for 13 months a piece.

If it's new to you, definitely read up on what to expect the first few hours, days, weeks etc. It's actually normal for it to be a bit painful the first 1-2 weeks (for the first 10 seconds or so of a feed). It's normal not to produce much to begin with - they don't need much the first few days. It's normal for them to sometimes feed all day/night long (cluster feeding) when they're about to go through a growth spurt... Lots of these things throw new mums and make them think they're doing it wrong.

Aside a lot of bumps in the road, it's one of the best things I've ever done - and that threw me the most!

Laney79 · 06/09/2018 20:40

I'm intending to bottle feed my little one-combination of really not wanting to BF and the need to make sure my fella is comfortable feeding bub and bonding as I will be going back to work after 4 months.

I'll prob try and express the colostrum but after that it'll be formula. Thanks a
@Alicejj8x for the pic of the tommee tippee machine-looks great X

Athers666 · 07/09/2018 11:34

Anyone else got to have the anti d jab? Got mine at the end of the month as I have O negative blood type. Pain in the bum due to parking at the hospital, there's just no spaces ever. Wish they could just do it at my gp surgery which is a 2 min walk from my house but noooo!

Patienceofatoddler · 07/09/2018 11:39

Oh crikey @Laney79 thats quite early to go back to work - Are you in the UK do you mind me asking?

When I went back to work it marked the beginning of the end of our breast feeding journey as it's just not possible when out the house 10 hours a day 5 days a week (well wasn't for me).

Laney79 · 07/09/2018 11:54

@Patienceofatoddler yep-I'm in shropshire. I'm the main earner in our house-my fella works part time (partly due to stress - he works in health). I get 18 weeks full maternity pay, so I'll take that then we'll do shared parental leave so he can have the other 4.5months of my stat maternity pay.

I know it'll be tough-but it's the best way I think. To be honest I really don't want to BF, so that added to the circumstance means bottle fed is best in our situation.

Patienceofatoddler · 07/09/2018 12:03

@Laney79

It's a big balancing game isn't it for what works best for individual families.

We looked into Parental leave but decided against it in the end last time (I struggled to get my head round the paperwork involved Blush).

I feel very fortunate I plan to take maximum this time as frankly it's planned to be our last so want to maximise the family opportunity. But I went back before babies were 8 months with my previous two.

Alicejj8x · 07/09/2018 13:37

@Laney79
Yes it's fab :) I would defo Invest in one lol x

HidCat · 07/09/2018 17:48

I only did 4 months last time as I just couldn't afford to take any more (we had free childcare from my Mum and only get statutory pay in work). Going to stretch it out to at least 5 this time but will look at shared leave as I earn a bit more than my husband.

Athers666 · 07/09/2018 23:32

Spent the evening at a and e, what a nightmare, had really bad chest pain and was terrified so DH took me there, got put on the ecg monitor and all came back normal so they think it's muscular pain and there's not much they can do. It hurts sooo much, but, baby is oblivious and is happy and kicking away so that's the main thing!

Laney79 · 08/09/2018 07:09

Ugh. The brown stuff is happening again. Just wiped and there was light brown discharge again. First night of holiday in Norfolk too.

Not a lot I can do. Just got to hope it's nothing to worry about.

Am 7+2 today. Please be ok little bow xxx

Patienceofatoddler · 08/09/2018 07:46

Eurgh @Laney79 @Athers666 hope you both have better days today.

Athers666 · 08/09/2018 07:59

@Patienceofatoddler Thank you. I'm in sooo much pain but have to go to work today so I'll see how I get on. My husband isn't speaking to me as I kept him awake all night in pain. Can't believe he's being like this, he's normally so good and kind.
@Laney79 I hope you're ok. Thinking of you and hoping you're well. I hope the brown is just nothing. I've had it a few times too x

HidCat · 08/09/2018 08:24

@Athers666 @Laney79 thinking of you both today. Try to stay positive @Laney79, brown blood is ok remember. 🤞🤞🤞

@Athers666 have you ever had asthma? I had chest pain a few months ago that lasted several days and it was asthma related but as I didn't have breathing difficulties it took a load of blood tests to pick it up.

MisBit1 · 08/09/2018 08:27

Hi! Just checking in, lovely to see so many more 🐧s.

We’ve made it to 13 weeks! Has a scan yesterday and baby was trying to fight the probe thing. It was not happy to be prodded and poked at all. The couldn’t get measurements for the combined test so I’ve got to go back for bloods but she said all looked ok.

@laney79 I had a private external scan at around that time with DS is that an option for you?

@patientenceofstoddler I desperately wanted to breastfeed DS and it was a really difficult ‘journey’ involving a missed tongue tie and awkward boobs. He got so upset trying to latch that I ended up expressing and topping up with formula. I found it really difficult emotionally to give him formula as I’d been so set on breast. My milk dried up after about 3 months of expressing so we got the tommee tippee machine and I eventually made my peace with it.

This time I’m not going in with any set idea I’ll just see what happens and go with it.

@Athers666 hope you feel better soon xx

Is anyone having a flu jab? I’ve never had one before.

Cakelaur · 08/09/2018 09:15

@Athers666 I know this sounds crazy but possible heart burn?? I had an friend of mine collapse at work and we rushed him to hospital he got hooked up to all ecg monitors etc and was on morphine and things. Turned out a bit of gaviscon cleared it up. It can massively affect some people to the point they struggle to breathe. He thought he was having a heart attack. Sending hugs. Hope you feel better.

@MisBit1 congrats on 13 weeks!! Great milestone.

@Laney79 hope you're ok babe. I had loads of spotting in the first trimester. Had scans every two weeks and everything was fine. I'm now almost 26 weeks. Are you able to pop along for an Epu scan? I noticed i got it around when my periods would have been due. Which the midwife said was totally normal. Sending hugs. Hope you can still enjoy the holiday. Xx

Beck1988 · 08/09/2018 10:26

@misbit1 I'm booked in for flu jab and whooping cough. Had both last time aswell an all was fine xxx

LilacIris · 08/09/2018 10:54

How is everyone?

DH is away this week so I can’t have an early scan, which is really annoying. Will have to wait until next week now. I’m quite worried as I feel really lacking in symptoms which doesn’t bode well.

Patienceofatoddler · 08/09/2018 11:19

@MisBit1 very similar here with my first.

Missed tongue tie and a failure to thrive on verge of bei readmitted at 6 weeks (We had a rough pregnancy / delivery and suspected meningitis so poor baby pumped with antibiotics) - I spent 4 months combi feeding but spending ages breast feeding then still using formula means you literally spend all day feeding Confused as you say it's hugely emotional and I felt immense feeling of guilt.

My second was exclusively breast fed with no issues which personally was hugely healing after my first.

I feel more prepared and confident in myself (and where to go for help!) which makes a huge difference.

Wishing you the best of luck for 2nd time round Smile

Alicejj8x · 08/09/2018 15:47

Went to the baby and toddler show in sandown cannot recommend these ever enough!!

We got so so much and saved sooo much. We made sure we checked prices too as we didn't want to be ripped off but everything we brought we saved so much on. Very happy :)
