depends what you like

over bump, on bump, under bump?

I've just bought a rather nice pair from Blooming Marvellous - about £35, nice soft denim, right leg length (for me, anyway!) and do up as normal with some hidden elastic at side to allow room for growth (although am currently having to use a belt)! They tuck nicely under my bump (although it's not that big yet).

beckmo · 31/05/2007 09:02

Steer clear from Topshop-unless you want a builder's bum and want to spend your whole time hoiking them up.Then again maybe its just my shape. Have had to wear a belt the whole time with them and now finally the one week that I don't (at 39 weeks!) the legs have got too tight!

Walnutshell · 31/05/2007 09:05

Unde bump most flattering ime, although some inevitable hoiking up throuhout day. I got a great pair from Swells - a naternuty boutique in Nottingham. Will rack my tiny brain for name of range.

Miaou · 31/05/2007 09:07

I am wearing a fab pair from bloomin marvellous, but they have been lent to me by another MNer so they may not be in this year's collection.

From my extensive experience I can tell you that the ONLY ones that are comfortable and stay up properly are the over-the-bump ones, with a big jersey panel right across the front, then extra elastic across the top of the panel (which is usually adjustable as well. nothing else stays up! Under the bump ones just slide down, on the bump slide down. I have given up wearing any other type!!

They have a website, but not to buy online I'm afraid. Great shop though if you are ever in that area!!

Walnutshell · 31/05/2007 09:11

Miaou is right, but I have to say I did find this one pair of under-the-bump jeans that stayed fairly well in place and looked a billion times more flattering. M/care clothes OK too but HUGE - I was suddenly a size 8 fgs.

Now we know why dungarees and sailor dresses were so fashionable for pregnant ladeez of the 1970's and 1980's...

thehairybabysmum · 31/05/2007 09:14

I have a pair from mamas and papas, i bought them a couple of years ago during first pregnancy but they are fab, a nice dark denim. They wernt cheap though...40 or 45 quid i think but worth it; I live in them again at the mo!

They are full on over the bump ones though which do look hideous when you put them on until your top covers that bit but they are the only pair i have had that dont fall down att all.

Ive had under bump and the ones with a jersey panel that goes over your bump and they both fall down so you spend the day hoiking them up which is really bloody annoying.

salmac · 31/05/2007 09:43

i would recommend the gap over the bump jeans -seem very comfatble too big for me at the minute though! and i agree topshop jeans are hopeless just dont stay up at all. gap have just started there maternity range and the vest tops are great!

I spent a lot on my maternity jeans - they were from 'juicy' - got them in Selfridges I think.

Never usually spend a lot on clothes, but they were an absolute godsend. Fitted over bump. Big elasticated pannel that fitted really well no matter what size/shape. Lovely and comfortable. They adjusted the leg length for free. Nice fitting on the bum.
And they fitted me from 12 weeks, right through pregnancy to the very last week, and then for a couple of months after too!

Worth every penny.

Nbg · 31/05/2007 09:51

Cough up MLS, how much?

MrsJetson · 31/05/2007 09:56

Thank you - from previous experience I have also found that over the bump are the only ones that stay put but I can't find any.

I bought a ridiculously expensive pair of very nice citizens of humanity jeans but they are too long, keep falling down and are now with a friend.

I have 3 pairs now but they are all under the bump, the bigger I get the worse they become.

If anyone knows where to get the over the bump jeans - much appreciated....

Nbg I think about £90!

My sis thinks that's not much for a pair of jeans but it was for me!!

Have I mentioned they were worth it though!

mumzarello · 31/05/2007 10:06

Red herring - Debenhams - had 2 pairs & lived in mine!!!

(See Fiofio's link )

jem1969 · 31/05/2007 10:31

Gap all the way- although depends where you live as can't get them on-line

Lolly68 · 31/05/2007 10:34

When I was pregnant I had a pair of maternity jeans from Dorothy Perkins. They were really comfortable.

yelnats · 31/05/2007 10:37

DD1 I wore ones from ASDA which were great but couldnt get them again with DD2 (15 weeks old), got a lovely normal looking but terrible uncomfy pair from dorothy perkins and a really comfy pair of over the bump ones from mamas and papas - think about £30 but worth every penny.

MaMonkey · 31/05/2007 10:39

Red Herring and Blooming Marvellous were the best I found.

Tallis · 31/05/2007 11:11

Erm, could i put in a word for humble Mothercare? I went along just last week to look at prams but veered thru clothes in desperation.

First off, saw terrible pile of snow-washed faded nightmare pairs with weirdy ties and buttons and pockets all over. Spirits sank to toenails. But then looked elsewhere in dept and hit the jackpot. Big over-bump panel. Boot-cut (because let's face it I ain't no Kate Moss), not too dark/not too light. A bit of slightly twinky blue flower embroidery on RH bum pocket but nothing too twee. I'm only 5ft 2in but I think they come in different lengths (10R, 10L etc) and mine are good for me (20+1). And, triumphantly, I was at least a size smaller than normal. Think they were about 30 quid.

Also have pair of pea in a pod ones lent by my sister. Under-the-bmp and i feel as if I'm being sawn in half. Not recommended.

naturelover · 31/05/2007 14:45

Don't get me started! The Topshop ones (elastic side panels) are to be avoided. They slip down continuously. Bought some non-maternity jeans at H&M (two sizes bigger than usual) which I'm wearing with a belt, but I don't think I'll fit into them much longer (I'm 27 weeks).

Clydesdaleclopper · 31/05/2007 15:52

I have a pair of Next ones with the elastic panels at the side. They end up round my knees most of the time . I also have a pair of under bump ones with the adjustable elastic from Blooming Marvellous which are almost as bad.

imtheirmum · 31/05/2007 17:24

I've seen Gap maternity stuff online but do they really do maternity in UK!! Which London branches??

helbo · 31/05/2007 18:43

top shop ones are pants - no, Top shop ones SHOW your pants. I've also got a pair from Seraphine (bought them online). Look great but stay up for about 5 seconds, unless you use a belt.

Best pairs I've got?
One 3/4 length pair from Noppies which are mega comfortable and have adjustable elastic around the hips (which is why they stay up).

Also got a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans - they look fabulous, better by far than my regular jeans. BUT I'm told they cost £195 to buy new!!!!! Luckily I got mine on e-bay for £15.

top tip!
