Low PAPP-A

Hi everyone.

I'm in need of success stories! I'm 24 and have low PAPP-A 0.22 and baby's NT was 1.2 and I am currently near 30 weeks.

I need to get some insight on how your story ended. I'm dwelling on the what could be's and really worrying I will come home without a baby.
Did you get induced?
Did you go on to have a normal delivery/ Labour?
Were you hoping for the best but expecting the worst?

Please help me ladies 🙏😩

Hi Emmah,
Just giving this a bump as I am similar to you - 31 weeks and measured low for PAPP-A.

I'm currently on aspirin and have extra growth scans - have these been offered to you?
I also asked the consultant at my last scan if I will be induced because of the Papp a, it's dependent on the hospital but she said as long as everything continues (baby growing well) then no induction planned.
I hope you get some helpful answers :)

Ah, glad to come across this. Am currently 24 weeks, was told Low PAPP-A at screening tests. Had lots of meetings with consultants and a couple of extra scans....so far so good.
However, went for scheduled consultant app last week for other bits n bobs which are no concern to be told that i would HAVE to be induced. Bare in mind I've not had any extra growth scans yet so not sure how baby is growing (I'm convinced hes gonna be a big boy) so not sure why I've suddenly become high risk.
Of course i want what's best for baby, but an induction will cause me untold stress and will make my anxiety go off the scale.
I'd rather have daily monitoring to make sure hes ok and let nature take its course. I really REALLY do not want to be induced. If liked to have as little intervention as possible.
I now have an appointment with another consultant at the end of August to air my concerns.
If you are worried as for a consultant appointment to go through all of your fears and concerns etc and hopefully you'll feel more at ease xxx

Hi Smile

Thought I'd share my story with you as my first pregnancy I was told I had low papp-a. I was put under consultant care and told I was at risk of having a small baby.

I was then scanned every 4 weeks to make sure baby was growing ok. No issues with the scans.

The birth was mostly straight forward. I was in to labour 1 day after my due date. After pushing for a long time and a 2nd degree tear out came a 9lb 3oz Baby!

All low papp-a meant for me was that I got to see my baby every 4 weeks!
I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about all the what ifs. Feel free to ask any questions Smile

owl89 · 23/07/2018 20:30

That is supposed to say I went into labour 1 day after my due date.

Emmah1993 · 23/07/2018 20:44

Hey ladies

I'm on 75mg aspirin and here in the uk they scan scan from 30 weeks every 3/4 weeks with Papp-a along with the usual 12 and 20 week scans.
Our daughter seems to be moving and kicking, head is definitely down and engaging. I just have a weird feeling about all of this.. I understand it's a strange thing to say...

I'm definitely keeping positive but want to know how everyone else's Papp-a story turned out. Don't know what I'd do without this forum sometimes!
❤️

In a similar position and finding it really hard to get consistent information after being identified as having low Papp-a (they didn't give me actual amounts).
I had an arterial scan around 24 weeks which showed everything was normal and consultant said I would only need 2 growth scans. Had a growth scan at 28 weeks, everything normal, but different consultant is insisting I have the full 4 scans and am induced. I really can't tell if it is just an overly risk averse trust or whether to push for routine care. Anyone found any good evidence?

Emmah1993 · 24/07/2018 21:28

update

Well today I had my 30 week scan, placenta and blood flow to baby is good and as it should be, and baby is head down in birthing/Labour position... currently weighing around 2lb 9oz

They seemed pretty happy with the result of the scan, although I didn't see a consultant whilst I was there.

They booked me in for a 33 week scan whilst I was there for the 14th August

I have low PAPP A too, in my area they offered me 3 growth scans at 28,34 and 38 weeks as standard and was told to take aspirin 75mg from diagnosis. Had my 34 weeks scan last week and showed my baby's growth has slowed, so now I have a Doppler and liquor volume scan booked for a week after and another growth scan at 36 weeks, if things don't improve they've told me they would like to induce me.

At my 28 week scan the consultant told me that he'd like to induce me at term either way.

Thought I'd share my experience so far. Hope it helps someone.

lanzlucy · 27/07/2018 09:47

Thanks @Blissfulignorance
That's helpful to know and I hope the next scans go ok for you. Keep us updated.
Strange how things vary so widely. I've double checked my aspirin prescription and it seems I'm on double what you all are (150mg) - no apparent reason why. Got midwife appointment in next few days so might try and get some answers then x

Blissfulignorance · 27/07/2018 12:23

Thank you @lanzlucy I will report back

Emmah1993 · 02/08/2018 19:23

Update..

Today I woke up feeling very emotional, like something wasn't quite right. Today I've experienced very little if any movement. I've felt like I've had a post baby jelly belly, like nothing was in my womb at all! I've been very headachy, vacant etc.
Went upto the hospital for monitoring, baby's heart beat was fluctuating dramatically, but still no movements at all! I've tried everything! To no avail.
I have an emergancy scan booked in for tomorrow afternoon, to check my placenta and the volume of waters surrounding bubs.

Question is, if this is as high risk as they've made it out to be, why didn't they keep me in?
And isn't it best getting her out before she gets even more weaker and in more danger?

SlimGin · 02/08/2018 20:16

Sorry I don't have the answers to your questions but I hope all is ok and they can reassure you tomorrow Flowers
They got the heartbeat which is great news, so perhaps that's why they've let you go home. Very best of luck for tomorrow

venus417 · 03/08/2018 23:24

how was the scan? watching this as someone with low papp a too. hope went well

Alwaysneedgin · 03/08/2018 23:36

If it helps I had low Papp-a in my second pregnancy. She was induced at 39 weeks due to poor movement and heart rate not fluctuating. She's now a very happy and healthy 3 year old. Hope your scan went well X

Emmah1993 · 04/08/2018 00:21

Hey ladies!

Scan went okay, heart beat is fine as is the volume of waters, however the cord was nearing her neck and still haven't had anymore movement. They hooked me upto a monitor for an hour, heartbeat still okay, just still no movement at all... they said if there's no change, come back for monitoring on the daily if necessary. Other than that, go for the 33 week scan and see if she is growing if not, plans will be put in place to induce me

Update

36 week scan went well, growth back on track. Waters all ok and Doppler too. Next routine scan at 38 weeks.

venus417 · 08/08/2018 12:38

i have a tiny baby went for scan yesterday, back for doppler next week and another growth the week after. shes 5th centile 😢

Emmah1993 · 08/08/2018 13:37

How many weeks are you venus147?
I have a little tiny baby too, 5th centile, back for a scan next Tuesday. Haven't had much movement at all this week, hospital have been rather blasé about the whole lack of movement thing as her heart beat is completely fine. 😢

OP posts:
venus417 · 08/08/2018 15:34

im only 25 weeks. i feel barely any movement, my bump feels like its getting smaller (i use the term bump lightly!!) and I generally dont feel pregnant! how many weeks are you?

Emmah1993 · 08/08/2018 16:15

Venus417 I completely understand where you're coming from. I feel like I have a post baby jelly belly! I'm currently 32 weeks, had just shy of a week of no movement, nesting like hell, and feeling like my body is preparing me for Labour all over again..

emmaluggs · 08/08/2018 16:27

I had low PAPP my midwife didn’t even know what it was. Dr advised me to take aspirin, had extra growth scans and a blood flow scan which measured the blood flow from the placenta to baby. Growth scans I found quite stressful as he kept measuring smaller, then I had excess water at one appointment. He was born at 6lb1 so on the smaller side, but he’s a happy chunky(ish) 10 month old now.

I did have a short cord too, not worryingly short but my google suggests the 2 are related.

Good luck and keep calm x

venus417 · 08/08/2018 21:17

my mmaternity jeans were hanging off me so i put my size 8 jeans on and they fit. They didnt fit a few weeks ago!!!

cheesegobbler · 18/08/2018 22:58

Really happy to find this thread. I am also on 150 mg of aspirin because of a low Papp a. Got a harmony test tmw because of the markers at the scan

Hopehope20 · 19/08/2018 09:01

@cheesegobbler what markers were at your scan? Good luck with the harmony test. Positive thoughts to you

cheesegobbler · 19/08/2018 09:05

They didn’t really explain very well, low Papp a and low hcg and markers in my blood. I did ask more questions but I don’t feel like I got digestible answers , I think I was overwhelmed with them telling me my odds etc x
