Call mat ward it can be a sign of issues that are urgent

Patienceofatoddler · 18/07/2018 21:37

Third trimester itching is a sign of Cholestasis.

I would ring your labour ward - they can check your liver function with blood tests to see if it's that.

Defiantly seek advice sooner rather than later though x x

JadeM2902 · 18/07/2018 21:53

Thank you for you replies, I called them and she just told me to go first thing after school run in the morning for a blood test, but I googled it and now worried myself wish I hadn't if I'm honest xxx

If it is cholestasis, try not to worry. I had it and was induced pretty quickly after the diagnosis. Me and baby were both fine. The important thing is getting checked out asap and you're doing that.

JadeM2902 · 18/07/2018 21:58

Thank you, you have sort of put my mind at rest just hope the results don't take to long to come back will drive me insane

Try not to worry OP. It does sound a lot like obstetric cholestasis. I had it with both my pregnancies. Both induced during the 37th week. Both perfectly healthy babies. They will probably get you to wait on the day assessment unit whilst they run the blood tests so you may be there s few hours and then, as you are now full term, they will probably suggest you are induced within the next few days.

AgentCooper · 18/07/2018 22:07

Jade, they won't take long Flowers I had the blood test on a Wednesday morning, got a call the next morning saying it did look like cholestasis so could I come into the daycare ward of the maternity unit for confirmation and monitoring. They gave me tablets to take and I was induced a few days later. This was last year. They do move really fast.

And this is anecdotal, but several doctors at the maternity unit said to me that actual bad outcomes from cholestasis are near enough non-existent these days.

JadeM2902 · 18/07/2018 22:08

Thank you for your reply too, I've got 2 children already and never had anything like this well never so itchy in my life it's awful just want it all tested and have some kind of outcome feel like I'm in limbo

YellowTelescope · 18/07/2018 22:10

I had this and ended up with pre eclampsia.

JadeM2902 · 18/07/2018 22:15

Stupid question in but what is that? And what is the outcome of it? My first 2 pregnancies were so smooth it was unreal

OP posts:
Patienceofatoddler · 18/07/2018 23:50

I have had Cholestasis with both pregnancies first started at 19 weeks and second 17 weeks.

Induced at 36 weeks and 37 weeks.

They can get the blood results back in a couple of hours depending on where you trust sends them.

If it is you'd likely be induced straight away I would have thought.

Youl likely find tomorrow youl have baby monitored on CTG and have a full once over / bloods taken.

Best of luck - easier said than done but don't worry x x

JadeM2902 · 19/07/2018 07:01

Keep us posted xx

Charliebob1337 · 19/07/2018 09:42

I have had this for the past 2 weeks, itching soles of feet and palms and swelling. Had blood test done, got results next day - came back clear. Still having the itching so having it done again this week, being induced Monday (one of many factors) so they said will be good to know but isn't a huge case for concern as being induced anyways. You may not have it, mine came back clear to start off with and as long as you have a good midwife they will check on you weekly to make sure. Best of luck!

JadeM2902 · 19/07/2018 12:49

Bloods all done this morning just waiting on a call to find out my results hoping it's nothing but hopefully not long now

Patienceofatoddler · 19/07/2018 13:06

Best of luck! Will be watching this thread and just remember no matter what don't worry as your 38 weeks and baby is well baked WinkBlush

For possible reassurance, I also developed itchy palms and feet in last trimester. In my case the blood tests came back clear and it turned out I was having a reaction to grass pollen (would walk through quite long grass on way to work). I’d never had hay fever or anything like that before.

Hope you get the all clear for cholestasis.

JadeM2902 · 19/07/2018 13:36

Thank you I hope it does come back clear my phone hasn't left my hand since I left there in case I miss the call, in a way I hope they induce me so I can go back to being the normal mum that I was with no pains itchy hands or fat hands and feet

OP posts:
takenitall · 19/07/2018 14:59

JadeM2902 · 19/07/2018 15:18

JadeM2902 · 19/07/2018 16:10

Bloods come back all clear don't know were to go from here because my feet are still overly swollen and bottoms of my thumbs and feet are still itchy seriously don't know what to do...

OP posts:
Patienceofatoddler · 19/07/2018 16:13

If bloods are clear then that's great.

Did they say to retest in a few days / week if you still have symptoms?

Swelling can also be a sign of preeclampsia so if it continues to get worse / get head aches / dizziness etc

I'm guessing you have a maternity day unit you can visit if your concerned in 2-3 days for example.

JustVent · 19/07/2018 16:14

That’s good then.
Sloth them in cold water, put your feet up, eat biscuits and just know that you don’t have too long to wait before it’s over.

bettythebutterfly · 19/07/2018 16:18

Are you expecting a boy? I had similar itching in my hands and feet, did all the blood tests and they were clear. My OB said that sometimes women can show allergy symptoms (itching, swelling) if they are carrying a boy; it's a reaction to the hormones etc. My symptoms disappeared minutes after I gave birth to my son. I didn't have the itching at all with my next pregnancy (DD).
