13 weeks pregnant - heavy bleed with clots. Please help

I'm beside myself with worry.

I'm just over 13 weeks pregnant and tonight started getting some mild cramps (which I get most days) then followed a big fish of bright red blood then when I wiped there were clots 😔

My midwife number only works between 8.30-4pm so I rang the pregnancy unit at the hospital and they said best to wait until the morning and ring the midwife then.

I'm petrified the worst is happening.

Please someone give me some hope?

How heavy are your clots? How Big? I'd be tempted to get straight to your maternity or gynae unit. This happened to me in 2016.

heiheithechicken · 17/07/2018 18:38

Are you still bleeding?
Have you had your 12 week scan?

moonandmountains · 17/07/2018 18:39

At 10 weeks I had a gush of blood and passed a very large clot followed by smaller clots. I assumed I had miscarried but I had not. I didn't have any pain though at all throughout the whole thing.

MarthaMe · 17/07/2018 18:39

Small clots, about as big as a 20pence piece.
We started driving there while I was trying to get through on the phone but they told me to stay at home and call my midwife in the morning

Had my 12 week scan just over a week ago and everything was fine.
Bleeding has slowed down a lot but it's still there

I'd go in anyway. I did at 12 weeks and they checked my cervix which was opening and they helped deliver the foetus, our second baby. Please call them back. My doctor told me I could have gone into shock if I hadn't passed the baby fully. Praying for you.

heiheithechicken · 17/07/2018 18:43

I think you need to be seen today.

titch147 · 17/07/2018 18:43

I had a massive bleed at 13 weeks with my son with large clots and all was fine he's now 7 lol but if you are worried just go to the early pregnancy unit to get check out if hospital won't help u can pay for a private scan xx

MarthaMe · 17/07/2018 19:04

Thank you @titch147 @moonandmountains
I'm hoping I'm as lucky as you both

This was my 5th ivf cycle and first & only baby so I'm absolutely devastated

I also had a massive bleed but at 14 weeks and the clots looked like (TMI) chopped liver.
Baby was fine and is now a healthy 2 year old. I went to A&E, stayed overnight and was scanned in the morning. They never did give any actual reason.
Good luck and try not to panic xx

venus417 · 17/07/2018 20:06

Happened to me at 14 weeks had a haematoma which wasnt apparent at all on 12 week scan. Does it say on your scan notes where your placenta is? Could be low and causing a bleed. Pregnancy is an anxious business but hopefully everything will be fine for you. I wasnt satisfied with the response of "see your gp as youre under 18 weeks" when I phoned so went in through A n E. Once i got to gynae they were absolutely lovely! Good luck 🤞

venus417 · 17/07/2018 20:07

By the way Im now 22 weeks in the same pregnancy. Not without its stresses but every weel that passes is a week closer to my babg being safe ... hopefully.

MarthaMe · 17/07/2018 20:12

Thank you

I did get out through to gynae it they still insist it's best to speak to my mw tomorrow. Just praying the bleeding stops and baby is ok.

MarthaMe feet up and wait until tomorrow. I have had good and bad outcomes having had 3 missed miscarriages, miscarriage and an ectopic. I do have 4 DC and my in my last pregnancy i had a mass bleed at 12 weeks and I assumed the worst, Ended up being a ruptured artery from the placenta. Did end up with extra monitoring and have a healthy boy now. I really hope it is positive news for you too. Cant even begin to imagine how you are feeling

Dreamtheimpossibledream · 17/07/2018 20:20

I am so so sorry, it must be so scary. I had a similar bleed with an IVF pregnancy. I went to a&e but all they could do was refer me for an urgent scan. I was very lucky and as others above it was a subchorionic haematoma - essentially a blood clot. I ended up having several - lasting a few hours each time with bright red blood and then some blood for 2/3 days afterwards. The fact your scan was ok is obviously positive. I will keep everything crossed for you. I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight and they are able to scan you tomorrow so you at least know one way or the other. If they can’t and subject to funds there are other private places that will be able to.

secretnames · 17/07/2018 20:49

fingers crossed OP but i'd still go up to a&e

Wall0ps · 17/07/2018 20:59

As an RD doctor I wanted to clarify that the reason you’re being told to stay at home is that there isn’t anything that can be done outside normal working hours. You need to be seen at the early pregnancy clinic for a scan and assessment. However that won’t happen overnight and unless you’re bleeding heavier than a period or have severe pain at my ED you would have an appointment made at triage to return when the clinic is open. I know you’ll be really worried, I’ve been there myself. But this advice is to stop you having a long stressful wait in the ED when there is nothing they can offer. Unfortunately if this is a miscarriage there’s nothing anyone can do to prevent it and you’re better off resting at home.
As I’ve said, I’ve been there. My bleed was at 16 weeks and my son is a healthy 17 yr old. This doesn’t mean you’re losing the pregnancy necessarily.
Obviously if your pain or bleeding is excessive then you should go to the ED. I hope thing go well for you.

Wall0ps · 17/07/2018 21:00

Should say an “ED” doctor

lizzybennet1926 · 17/07/2018 21:05

I'm sorry I know how scary this is.
I don't want to give false hope but I bled to the point of haemorrhage with both of mine and they were fine.
If the bleeding gets any heavier or you start to feel pain/weak please get to A and E. I have my fingers crossed for good news.

hairymoragthebampot · 18/07/2018 10:11

Thinking of you today.

WonderfulWonders · 18/07/2018 10:45

I'm shocked that the hospital don't think you need to be seen. Hope you are ok

NickMyLipple · 18/07/2018 10:59

This happened to me four days before my 12 week scan. I had already had a scan at 8 weeks and had seen a heart beat. I bled through my trousers, and would describe the amount as significant and I was also passing small clots. I reassured myself by thinking that none of the clots were as big as the baby would be now. They didn't scan me as I had a scan in a few days time. I was devastated but actually when I had the scan, all was well. She's now 4 months old :)

Best of luck today, spontanious bleeds are pretty common so I'm told.

MarthaMe · 18/07/2018 11:16

I went to a&e early this morning. We heard the heartbeat on a Doppler which was a huge relief but they did say I'm not out the woods yet.
Many blood tests and examined by the doctor. She couldn't find where the bleed or clots have come from but said my cervix is closed which is good. I have to go back for a scan tomorrow. God what a worry!
