12 week scan anxiety

WhirlingTurkey · 09/07/2018 10:49

My 12 week scan is on Friday and I'm so bloody nervous. It's annoying me because I am normally quite a pragmatic person, but I can't shake this anxiety. I feel so sick with nerves (on top of pregnancy sickness) and I can't think about much else. I'm more nervous than in my first pregnancy, but I think that is because I had a private scan at 9 weeks last time, whereas this time we couldn't justify the expense. Not much point in this thread, other than writing it down to try and get it out of my head a bit. Thanks for reading!

@WhirlingTurkey hey - my scan is also on Friday and I'm getting nervous too! My boobs aren't achey at all at the moment and I'm convinced they are not as big (DH insists they are!) and I feel sick but I think that's just because of anxiety. It's my first pregnancy.

I did have a scan at 8 weeks and all okay then but it honestly isn't helping my nerves this time.

Just wanted to let you know that there's someone else feeling the same way.

InDreamland · 09/07/2018 11:39

Ditto @WhirlingTurkey snd and @Wowthisisreal. 12 week scan on Friday and sh1tting myself. Haven't had an early scan so this is our first scan and also add a FTM I've no idea what to expect and after been discharge this weekend and a melt down over that and something else, reduced pregnancy symptoms I'm so so so worried. Looks like that's 3 of us feeling anxious. Roll on Friday! Fast! What time is yours?

InDreamland · 09/07/2018 11:39

Brown not been

eyesontheprize57 · 09/07/2018 11:43

I felt exactly the same before mine too. I think before you see baby you can second guess everything - I started to think that they wouldn't see anything in there! Its hard not to worry, I am the worst, but just wanted to reassure you that its not weird to feel this way and many other women also get themselves into a knot with it all too. Hope your scan goes well and it makes you feel more reassured.

WhirlingTurkey · 09/07/2018 12:06

Thank you ladies, your reassurance, that I'm not alone, is very welcome. I just wish I could fast forward until Friday!!

@Wowthisisreal and @InDreamland I recognise both of you from one of the January threads! Hello! My scan is at 14:50 so not early enough in the day for me liking to be honest. What time are your scans?

InDreamland I'm sorry you have had the worry of brown discharge. Brown is very likely old blood though, which is nothing to worry about. Although that's absolutely easier said then done I know.
Wowthisisreal try and focus on the very good odds for your baby - if you saw a heartbeat at 8 weeks then I think the odds of a successful pregnancy are like 98%, which is huge!

Wowthisisreal · 09/07/2018 12:50

@WhirlingTurkey mine is at 4PM!

I'm going to be a wreck that day. I know the odds are better if you see a heartbeat I guess I'm a pessimist in that I think someone has got to be that 2%.

Just going to try and stay positive but I think it is easier said than done!

InDreamland · 09/07/2018 13:23

I recognise you both too from the January thread.

My parents and DH tell me not to worry too but they do get my anxieties so just trying to support me.

Goodness, so I'm up first from the 3 of us then on Friday. My appointment is at 10am and I'm really glad it is as like you say, otherwise would be a wreck all day. I'mthe same as you @Wowthisisreal, I always zone in the the someone has to be the small % where something is wrong and I always think that's gonna be me.

Fingers crossed for all of us we have healthy babies with strong heartbeats x

mum2be2018 · 09/07/2018 14:51

i have my scan thursday am so anxious aswell, i had a MMC 2 years ago and found out at my scan so am petrified for this scan, we had an early scan at 8 weeks and saw a heartbeat but am still so scared for thursday :(

what are your expected due dates?

WhirlingTurkey · 09/07/2018 15:22

@mum2be2018 - wishing you very good luck for your scan and I'm so sorry for your loss. MMC is a big fear! I know they are rare, but they don't seem it when you read about numerous women with experience of them online. I had a miscarriage (not missed IYSWIM) in my early twenties and it is never a nice thing to go through, but can't imagine receiving bad news at a scan like that.

My EDD is currently 26th of January. What's yours?

OP posts:
mum2be2018 · 09/07/2018 15:24

my EDD by my dates is 29th Jan but by my early scan is 25th Jan will be glad once Thursday is here and over so I can start relaxing a bit and actually enjoying the pregnancy

EyeDrops · 09/07/2018 16:21

May I jump in? 12 week scan also on Thurs and I'm really anxious. I feel like I'm barely having any symptoms - tiredness (but may just be the heat?!), achey boobs and a barely there bump (may just be as I'm eating crap!) - it just hasn't felt at all real and I'm really worried about a MMC.

Thursday can't come quick enough one way or the other!

Wowthisisreal · 09/07/2018 16:52

@mum2be2018 mines 25th Jan at the moment although obv that could change!

mum2be2018 · 09/07/2018 16:54

@eyedrops im the same i dont have mant symptons apart from tiredness and feeling sick constantly ive had a max of 2 weeks of sickness through the whole pregnancy so anxious for Thursday, what time is your scan? mines at 2.10pm

InDreamland · 09/07/2018 16:58

I'm exactly the same as @Wowthisisreal.

EyeDrops · 09/07/2018 19:50

@mum2be2018 Also 2.10pm!!

WhirlingTurkey · 09/07/2018 20:25

Mine is ten-to-three. My previous pregnancy I had early morning scans, I think it will feel like a long day! Good luck to you all ladies, will look forward to good news from you all. xx

I put a thread on here last Friday because I was exactly the same. I had an MMC in March at the 12 week mark despite seeing a heartbeat at 9 weeks.

I had my 12 week scan at 3.40pm last Friday an spent the whole day panicking, hating that it was such a late appointment!

I saw the heartbeat and baby was a wriggler, sonographer put me at 11 weeks an 4 days then, meaning my EDD is the 21st of January.

Although Im completely with you on the anxiety I don't think the scan has helped as much as I'd hoped. Ive just transferred my worries to be convinced something has happened since then as I'm not out of the 'danger zone' yet.

It's so hard when there's no obvious bump or kicking. My last MMC was a full two weeks before I had any sign there was anything wrong so I don't trust the whole unless your bleeding your fine.

How does every one cope with these anxieties?!

WhirlingTurkey · 10/07/2018 15:41

Oh I can't wait to start feeling kicks/movement. That's when it all started feeling real for me last time. Praying that I get to that point.

I'm signed off work currently due to struggling a great deal with pregnancy sickness, and so I have extra time to think and fret, which is probably not helpful to my general mindset.

cryptonaut · 10/07/2018 18:09

I was the same, I had my scan yesterday and everything was fine. I'd convinced myself that they wouldn't find anything but there it was, strong and moving around. DH kept me calm while we were waiting and gave me tissues when I started crying when I saw it.

WhirlingTurkey · 10/07/2018 18:36

Great news @Cryptonaut! I think I remember your name from one of the January threads. Nice to see you and hear you have had a successful scan.

Are any of you ladies due in the January Facebook group that sprouted from the Jan thread in antenatal clubs?

OP posts:
cryptonaut · 10/07/2018 20:58

@WhirlingTurkey didn't realise there's a Facebook group. Will have to have a look.

Patienceofatoddler · 10/07/2018 22:11

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday to - it's not til the afternoon and I am starting to get quite nervous more so than previous pregnancies.

I can't talk about this pregnancy as a given yet so really hoping this will make it seem a bit more 'real'

Hoping it's Thursday / Friday before we know it Blush

WhirlingTurkey · 12/07/2018 12:46

@mum2b2018 @Eyedrops and @Patienceofatoddler - best of luck for your scans today.

OP posts:
Patienceofatoddler · 12/07/2018 14:05

Thank You @WhirlingTurkey

Just out and everything was fine I am measuring 13w 2d so 3 days earlier than I thought. Was really weird being on my own I swear everyone else had partners / mothers / friends with them Hmm

I feel so silly I got myself so wound up and anxious over it.

Maybe I can start accepting that this is actually happening now.

WhirlingTurkey · 12/07/2018 14:51

Aww, fantastic news. So glad all was well. That's wonderful!
I am freaking out totally about tomorrow but trying to relax. Easier said than done!!
