I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Congratulations hot choc. Enjoying a cup of tea sounds amazing.
Afm still in hospital. Just had first dose of steroids.

Foodylicious · 02/10/2018 11:49

Finally bean! Hope they really help

Emu31 · 02/10/2018 12:40

Hello am just popping in to say hi. This thread got me through my pregnancy and my lo is now 7.5 months! Just want to say a big thank you to Lucinda for keeping this thread going, I don't know what I would have done without it.
When I was poorly I wrote a blog post to help explain hg to friends and family who might not 'get' it. Please feel free to read and to share it if it might help you emumusings.blogspot.com/?m=1.

Whilst I've encountered a lot of challenges over these past few months since my little boy was born, and it's in some ways been especially hard after the trauma of an hg pregnancy, I also think having hg made me realise just what I'm capable of surviving and I've amazed myself at what I've been able to deal with. Sending love and solidarity to you all. X

Mammabear13 · 02/10/2018 13:04

HotChoc congratulations, so glad that you have reached the castle! Well done! & as others have said, just take it easy & be kind to yourself, there are no rules for how you should be feeling.

Bean great news on the steroids, hope they start to help quickly.

Just wondering if anyone has had prochlorperazine and metoclopramide, and found one or other better? Not sure metoclopramide is doing it for me but wondering whether prochlorperazine is going to worth a try or to push for ordanestron? (Although constipation makes me nervous of ordanestron as after my brute of a son, I had some serious damage and I have to be very careful with my bowels)

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/10/2018 16:18

Mammabear13 I've had both (simultaneously at one point!) - I was on cyclizine and metaclopramide, then added in prochloperazine, then switched the lot for ondansetron. Each combo worked for a wee while but it was only the ondansetron that really did it. The constipation isn't great though and personally I found the best thing was using a combo of lactulose and suppositories which made it bearable.

Just back from the midwife myself and so utterly fed up. Section is booked for Friday (thank the lord) but they've moved over to the "enhanced recovery" approach here which just sounds like a pile of bollocks designed to kick us out of hospital faster. Prep includes having loads of carbs the day before and drinking two glucose drinks before hand too. Cos they're gonna stay down right enough.

I have my booking in appt at the hospital tomorrow, which is done as a group session. Nobody has so much as glanced at my birth plan yet. Whole thing is a blooming joke - I've had a section before but it's fairly substantial surgery and I have Asperger's too so I could really do with being able to have a proper discussion before hand to discuss a few adjustments etc.

Sorry, grumpy and very large pregnant woman who has had enough!

Boredoftryingusernames · 02/10/2018 17:35

Just popped by to see if there was any baby news, big congratulations Hotchocolate on your little girl. I hope you are feeling a bit better in yourself today. I have drunk so much tea since the nausea has gone.

Sorry for those still battling their way through, especially the early days.

Kel55 · 02/10/2018 18:35

Hi ladies can I join please. I am pregnant with my third child and suffering HG for the second time. I'm now 26 weeks and still sick. I'm on 2 different anti sickness tablets that help but don't stop the all day nausea.
It's really getting me down. I know I only have 3 months left now and I've been through the worst of it. but 3 months of feeling sick 24/7 feels like a life time. I'm dreading the days/wks/months ahead.
Can you help me to stay positive as I'm really starting to feel down about it xx

Hotchocolate86 · 02/10/2018 20:34

Thank you everyone. I’m still in hospital and trying to rest up. I’m sore and tired and feeling queasy today but I suspect that’s tiredness. I am hoping my mood lifts when I get home which should hopefully be tomorrow Smile
bean I am so glad they are giving you the steroids. They were a massive help for me. Do you have steroid tablets?

Hotchocolate86 · 02/10/2018 20:35

I hope all is going well for you bored

LucindaE · 02/10/2018 20:36

Hotchocolate Wonderful news. Flowers Flowers Star Grin I am glad you have had some tea. Don't worry about the flat feeling. You've been very ill and through a lot. The happiness will come. You've also been wonderful on the thread.
Kel55 Welcome. You will get there. Are there any little treats you can give yourself for getting through (obviously not in the form of food). Books, DVD's, you've always meant to see, etc. Many find the nausea worse than the vomiting. There's lots of support on here. Are you on an anti acid? That can help with the nausea besides the vomiting. As you are a veteran, I wouldn't normally be quoting my list of drinks, etc, but you might find one to help. Some liquids tlat have helped many; full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, the juice of tinned fruit, fizzy water, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, Iron Bru, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocolate milkshake(maybe soya). Foods of a sort include cuppa soup, Scotch pancakes, nibbles of chips and crisps, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and cheap ice cream.

Emu31 Thank you so much for your lovely message. Thanks I am sorry that you've had some bad experiences since the birth, but as you say, if you've survived Hyperemesis you know how much you can handle. I hope things are easier for you now.
beanhunter I am so glad they have put you on steriods, and changed your mind from their talk about ketones and life threatning conditions earlier. They have helped a lot of people on here.
Foreverblues It seems mad to say 'congratulations on some movement going on down there' but on this thread, that makes sense.
StatisticallyChallanged No wonder you got frustrated. Sometimes they do seem very cavalier with birth plans. I wonder half the time why some places ask for them.
MamaBear I think you are very wise to be wary of constipation with birth damage. That's Stemetil, isn't it? A lot of people have been greatly helped by it.
Good news then, Boredoftryingusernames.
Waves to SeaEagleFeather and everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Hi Lucinda thank you for your message.
The only drink I can keep down is full fat coke which is terrible as that's what I've lived on for 7 months!
Potatoes seem to be the only food I can eat. Crisps and crackers too.
I've been trying to keep myself busy as sitting around is making me miserable but the going out is such a huge effort wen u feel so ill.
I spend my days daydreaming of the day this will be over.

eallison88 · 02/10/2018 21:45

Hi all. I'm back again. I hovered a few months ago when hubby and I decided to try for another one. I said that I'd been referred to a pre-conception clinic to plan for a pregnancy. The apt is on 23rd Oct. We decided yo come off the pill at the end of August as it took 2 years to conceive last time (and we had to use clomid) so we thought best yo Let my cycle settle...

Well, I peed on a stick (5 sticks...) on Saturday. And we caught first month!

I've started the cyclizine that I convinced my GP yo give me and have got enough now to last me til the apt with the consultant on the 23rd.

I feel completely overwhelmed. No sickness yet. But the anticipation of when and how bad is really really difficult.

So basically, just place marking. And hoping I won't need you guys... no offense!!

Wishing everyone a restful night

SassehMonsta · 03/10/2018 02:22

I feel my HG isn't HG this time. Despite the severe nausea in weeks 3-5, I am settled down to one dose a day and just regular nausea and eating all the foods. It's making me worried for my pregnancy, but imglad that I'm not suffering as much this time round!

I'll keep following incase it rears its face again.

eallison88 · 03/10/2018 06:21

sasseh I can't tell you how good that is to read!! Fingers crossed it stays as it is (or gets even better!)

TwoDrifters · 03/10/2018 16:45

Too little, too late, for most of us, sadly, but how wonderful if this works!

I wonder how effective it actually is…

www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2018/10/02/first-drug-morning-sickness-licensed-britain-could-help-prevent/

SassehMonsta · 03/10/2018 19:20

Looks interesting but also looks like it's not going to work for HG sufferers - Only regular morning sickness.

eallison88 · 03/10/2018 19:33

From the research I did last night,it's very much entry level. It's basically made up if 2 components, one of which is vitamin b6, which is something that HG warriors have been using for a long time.

But if it gives some ladies relief then that's awesome. It's also hopefully a door opening to other drugs being developed specifically for pregnant women with HG

LucindaE · 03/10/2018 20:43

eallison Congratulations! That must have been a surprise. I am glad you have Cyclizine to hand. I hope you escape it this time.
SassehMonsta With nausea bad enough to have to take a dose a day, very likely you don't have to worry about failing hormones, but may well one of the lucky ones who escapes it the second time round.
Kel55 Coke and crisps is often all that sufferers can face. Anyway, it'sgood you can eat real potatoes too. I think the coke and crisps is to do with the sweetness and saltiness.

TwoDrifters That's intriiguing.
Waves to tinyradish and everyone.

Congratulations eallison. I do hope you avoid HG this time.
kel I pretty much lived in potato in the early stages of my pregnancy. Sometimes i could tolerate it with a bit of cheese.
I hope everyone is doing ok.

Foodylicious · 04/10/2018 10:44

Hi hotchoc

How you getting on?

SeaEagleFeather · 04/10/2018 11:03

Handhold kel, I remember that awful feeling of the days stretching ahead of you. In the end I (tried to!) stop looking ahead and simply concentrated on the here and now and getting through the next half day or even half hour. Agreed with Mother Hen that small treats can help ... if you're able to find the time with two little ones!

Hi ealli, CONGRATS!* .... and here's to hoping that you are one of the very lucky ones who doesn't get it badly the second time.

LucindaE · 04/10/2018 11:09

Corn much appreciated, SeaEagleFeather.

Hi foody I’m struggling with my recovery this time but I’m sure it’s all to be expected. I feel very exhausted and bruised and I think have a fair amount of trapped wind which isn’t comfortable. Baby is lovely though and a bright spot in the days. How are you?

Foodylicious · 04/10/2018 13:43

Oh hotchoc go easy on yourself!

Baby sounds lovely 💕

I'm doing ok. Just a little impatient. DD is tomorrow. I'm thinking Saturday or Monday. No idea why!
Tightenings and stronger every day, but not amounting to anything more.
I have been a bit more relaxed about it the last few days, I was in a bit of a state at the start of the week.

Hope you have enough help and support!

tinyradish · 04/10/2018 14:46

Hello.... Hope everyone is doing as well as they can be!

Taking metaclopramide atm which definitely helps a lot with vomiting & the nausea to some extent but it makes me so incredibly drowsy. No one else seems to mention this so not sure why it's such a problem for me. However the GP will only let me take this for a few days at a time? Then it's back to cyclizine which I'm realising is really not helping much at all so tomorrow I'm going to ask if I can try something else. Any suggestions?

Oh yesss baked potato (plain) with a sprinkle of salt is one of my main meals right now. Really recommend to anyone struggling with food.
