I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi everyone, not posted on here in a while but just wanted to let you know I had my little boy on Monday. We are ok, I'm just very sore from the c section but getting there.

Just want to wish everyone good luck for the rest of their pregnancy, I'll still be hanging around and will offer any advice where I can. I feel for anyone suffering right now but it isn't forever. Baby is now 4 days old.....feels like it's gone soooo quick. 4 days in hypermesis world feels like 4 weeks....

Lots of love to all xxxx

Hotchocolate86 · 07/09/2018 09:06

Congratulations bitzy. That’s fantastic news. I hope you are soon feeling much better from the c section.

bitzy12 · 07/09/2018 09:28

@Hotchocolate86 thank you, not too long you for you now. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy xx

Hotchocolate86 · 07/09/2018 09:32

Thank you @bitzy12 I’m very much looking forward to reaching the pink castle.

beanhunter · 07/09/2018 11:26

Having thought that maybe this time it was just grotty ms rather than hg I’ve spent the morning hugging the toilet retching and vomiting bile. I actually saw my whole anti sickness tablet come back. Crap. Husband working this weekend so I have our 6 year old too.

applesin · 07/09/2018 11:45

Hey everyone. Im nearly 7 weeks pregnant with #2. I had terrible HG with my DS and also I think the beginning of it in my last pregnancy which ended in miscarriage.
Went to the drs today to try and get some meds started, was full of wishful thinking hoping it would be different this time. I feeling awful but still just about manageable so I wanted to get meds started before it got too bad. The dr couldn't have been more dismissive, I've been given 10 days worth of cyclizine and I'll have to go back if I need any more. He told me it sounds like normal morning sickness and I should make sure I'm drinking, I was trying to explain that I was struggling to but hopefully meds would help with that. Just not interested. Has anyone got any thoughts? Last time I ended up hospitalised before I got a decent treatment in place and looking back I should have pushed for more as I still felt awful but could just about keep down food and water and didn't have the energy to fight. 😭

TwoDrifters · 07/09/2018 12:09

applesin Hello! Welcome to the club no one wants to be a member of!

My GP actually wasn’t bad this time round and gave me 50x cyclizine straight off, which at least lasts for a fortnight or so but I’ve had to get repeat prescriptions for more each time.

I found the midwives at the hospital very helpful, if you explain at your booking in appointment that you need more cyclizine they should write you a prescription that you can collect from the hospital pharmacy then and there.

Foodylicious · 07/09/2018 12:20

Congratulations bitzy
Wonderful news, enjoy those newborn snuggles!

Lucybex · 07/09/2018 13:18

congratulations Bitzy! thanks LucindaE. I'm back in hospital now. This is the fourth time in five weeks. They are talking about booking me in every week for a 24 hour drip, which i obviously don't want but to be honest the stress each week of a and e and feeling totally rubbish may help. the only thing that seems to work is iv anti sickness. They can't do anything about the thyroid for now. i haven't done any work for two weeks, i'm not sure what to do about normal life stuff but i guess the baseline changes... the new normal is different to what it was before. I'm 13 weeks today, so hopefully, surely, something eases soon? i honestly don't think i can do this for another six months if not!
goodluck applesin, at least you are on meds early so hopefully will help?

Foodylicious · 07/09/2018 15:58

Lucybex that sounds rough Sad
Booking you in every week doesn't sound like a bad idea though!
Obviously not what you would want, but should certainly take the stress out a little .

I was thankfully never as bad as you have Been, but on my worse days I cannot even imagine having to drag myself to A&E. Must be just awful.

Fx things ease off a bit in the next couple of weeks

Lucybex · 07/09/2018 16:26

Thanks foodylicious. A and e is not fun! Guess it's just one day at a re for us all!

LucindaE · 07/09/2018 21:10

applesin Welcome. Sorry you are suffering again and that the doctor was dismissive. Did cyclizine work well last time? If not, it might be worth phoning Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 for advice on getting stornger meds. They will pone you back with good advice.Have you got good childcare arrangements to fall back on? As you are a veteran, you won't need my usual spiel about 'have you got kesostix' and 'is flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit and ice lollies any good?'

bitzy12 Congratulations on arriving at our Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror ride. Flowers StarSmileCakeBrew Thanks so much for your encouraging messsage. I hope the c scar soon stops throbbing.
Lucybex It does sound as if you have it very badly.Take heart. Almost nobody suffers as badly later on as they do at the beginning. It sounds a good idea to get fluids that way once a week, but dragging yourself to hospital for it sounds no fun. I am glad they are taking matters very serously. How is the weight or is that a silly question? I remember you sad you were very lightly built. Is the thyroid making things worse, as I think you said that you couldn't take certain meds due to it. Much sympathy.
Much sympathy too, too *beanhunter'. That does sound bad. What meds did you say you are on?
Foodylicious Great advice from y ou, and from TwoDrifters, whom I hope is flourishing. Smile
Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

Thanks Lucinda Smile

Things have been up and down sickness and nausea wise but I’m still hanging on in there.

beanhunter · 07/09/2018 21:18

Ondansetron. Cyclizine makes me feel dizzy and worse.

LucindaE · 08/09/2018 10:26

TwoDrifters Oh dear, silly Mother Hen made a mistake there. My muddled head thought you'd turned a corner. I hope you do soon.
beanhunter It's a shame cyclzine makes you feel worse, as many find that cyclizine teamed with Ondansetron and an anti acid like omprazole or ranidine, together with I think, B6, really does the trick.I have heard of doctors prescribing Metaclopramide and Ondansetron. Someone on here said that was odd, as they have two different approaches, but I'm no pharmacist and don't know. All Mother Hen can suggest then is can they up the dose - and do you have an effective anti acid, my usual line, but it does make such a differnce - and has the doctor prescribed a good laxative as locked up bowels can make nausea even worse?

Hi ladies I am 7+1 today and I've been suffering from HG it's horrible this morning does feel slightly better as I went an hour and a half without throwing up or feeling like I needed to vomit. Feels like it was a complete break but now am back to half hour vomiting. I am exhausted and this thread is amazing with all the advice so thank you for sharing this thread xxx

Chivari · 08/09/2018 11:13

Hi Ladies, new around here. Not sure if I have HG though.

So I had sickness nausea for around 2 weeks which was manageable but then from yesterday, I was sick in the morning then sick in the evening but today has been horrendous. Only sick once but feel so so so nauseous 🤢 not sure what to do. Struggling to keep food and fluids down. Worried as I have a very busy job with lots of responsibilities, and a 3 day training course where I am away from home next week for 2 nights. Not sure I'm going to be able to hack it 😕

Any help as to how to keep nausea/sickness at bay would be much appreciated.

Unicornandbows · 08/09/2018 12:51

@chivari

Hey have you been to doctors and had some antisickness tablets prescribed??

Hotchocolate86 · 08/09/2018 12:55

Hi chivari I’d definitely recommend getting yourself to the doctors for some anti sickness tablets. There are lots they can try you with. It’s certainly worth it if it helps you cope as severe nausea can be as debilitating as actual vomiting. Try having little sips of fluid and just small amounts of food regularly rather than trying to keep down your regular meals. I found it better to eat a small amount every hour. I was more likely to keep a little bit down and occasionally it would help with the nausea. If you look back through the thread (possibly the first post) lucinda has posted a list of foods and drinks other sufferers have been able to tolerate. For me it was mashed potato. Hope this helps a bit.

Chivari · 08/09/2018 13:39

Thanks @Hotchocolate86 and @Unicornandbows I haven't been yet but may have to on Monday as I can't function very well at the moment.

Currently drinking some dioralyte which is helping a little and had a few ready salted crisps which I am keep down so far. Still feeling so nauseous and have been since about 8am this morning

Foodylicious · 08/09/2018 17:43

Hi Chivari sorry you are feeling so bad.
Really the best thing you can do is get to the docs on Monday to discuss if you need/want tablets atvyhus stage.

I think research suggests that starting treatment earlier can reduce how bad it gets ( unfortunately know way to predict how it will go for you over the next few weeks/months, but it helped me to knowvthis)

And rest. Rest us so important.
Being over tired or trying to do too much is a trigger for a few worse days for most people.

See how you go, but don't be surprised if you need a little time of work to rest.

There will be lots of useful in Lucindas previous comments re good good and drinks to try

Though sounds like your choice of salted crisps and dioralyte is a good one!

Chivari · 08/09/2018 19:55

Thanks @Foodylicious I have managed to see an out of hours GP today and have been diagnosed with HG ☹️☹️ so now have some anti sickness meds. Hoping they will help!

Thanks so much for everyone's support. You have all made me feel better already!

Hotchocolate86 · 08/09/2018 20:19

I’m glad you have some anti sickness chivari. What have they given you to try? I hope it helps.

Chivari · 08/09/2018 20:24

@Hotchocolate86 they have given me Prochlorperazine to try first which I put between my lip and gum then if that doesn't work I've also got Cyclizine. Fingers crossed this sorts me out!

Foodylicious · 08/09/2018 20:25

Great stuff Chivari fx they work for you.
Keep resting though!
