Hi all and congratulations on your pregnancies Smile

I am 37 and currently TTC baby #2.

I was interested to know how long it took the ladies in their late 30's to get pregnant and did you do BBT, OPK tracking or anything else to assist? What did you find to be most successful?

Hi KentUnicorn. There is a TTC board where people may also have good advice, I don't know if you've been posting there too. It will vary massively by person. How old is your DC and how long did it take to conceive that time? That may be more of a guide for you :)

I got pregnant at 39 (now 40 and 22 weeks pregnant) and I didn't do anything special - just some basic cycle tracking. It took 6 months for me to conceive (first pregnancy).

KentUnicorn · 06/06/2018 12:44

Yes thanks I'm looking at the TTC board too Smile

DC is 12 months and we got lucky first time with him.

Started ttc#2 at 38, fell pg at 39 after 9mths of trying. Used CB fertility monitor for last 5 months, the one which tells you high fertility days.

Kintan · 06/06/2018 12:54

It took 3 months when I was 36 and 9 months aged 38. I used the fertility friend app both times, and took temps and used lols. I tried all kinds of things during the 9 months of TTC #2 mostly diet related. Funnily enough last month, when I got my BFP, I’d been more relaxed about my alcohol intake and caffeine consumption that I had been in the previous months. Oh and I changed my prenatal vitamin to the Rainbow Lite over 35 brand and started taking a fish oil supplement. Not sure if they had anything to do with the BFP but might be worth a try. Good luck :)

Kintan · 06/06/2018 12:55

*opks not lols!

AKP79 · 06/06/2018 12:58

I'm 39 and we've been trying for 3 years with 2 MMCs along the way. I have tried tracking, OPKs, conceive gel etc... I'm 34 weeks with this baby and when I fell pregnant this time around we'd decided we were going to stop all the tracking and trying too hard and if it happens, it happens. 2 months later I was pregnant...

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 06/06/2018 12:59

Got pregnant first cycle with ds born when i was 37. Ttc at 42 took 3 cycles. Ttc at 44 resulted in 3 chemicals and a mmc. 46 now and given up!!

Darkstar4855 · 06/06/2018 13:19

I’m 37 and 15 weeks pregnant, OH is 43. It took us eight months from when we started trying to when we conceived although due to cycle settling down after coil removal, illness, bereavement, family visitors, working shifts etc. there were some months that we didn’t manage to dtd at the right time at all so I think it was only our fourth cycle of “proper” trying that we conceived!

I started using the clear blue OPKs after about two months which helped me a lot because it took the guesswork out of things as I knew exactly which days to aim for. My partner felt under too much pressure if he knew it was a peak day though so it worked better when I just tested but didn’t tell him! I didn’t temp as I work shifts so always getting up at different times.

We had also both been taking a multivitamin and 200mg ubiquinol (co-enzyme q10) daily for three months before we conceived because I’d read that it can improve sperm/egg quality. I’ve no idea if that actually made any difference though!

Good luck x

39 and 39w pregnant with no.6 (was 38 when conceived). I got pregnant as quickly as I did in my twenties and early thirties, but I had some chemical pregnancies and a miscarriage before this pregnancy. I conceived 3x in 6 months. No ovulation tracking or vitamins etc.

Agent13 · 06/06/2018 13:53

I’m 38 and about to have DC2. Got pregnant on first try with DC1 at age 31. Took a couple of cycles for DC2 but that’s all. Didn’t do anything special except pay attention to dates so I knew when I’d likely be ovulating.

Oysterbabe · 06/06/2018 14:32

I was 37 when I had my second and it took 2 months.

eyesontheprize57 · 06/06/2018 16:06

I'm 37 and 13 weeks pregnant with my second. Took us 18months of TTC however that was largely due to the fact my partner works offshore and wasn't always here on the crucial dates. I used a tracking app and preseed gel alongside taking the usual preconception vitamins. I also started acupuncture a few months before I fell pregnant which could be a complete coincidence or not depending on how you want to look at it. Ive only got one Fallopian tube from a previous ectopic pregnancy so my philosophy was to just give anything a go!

Beetlebum1981 · 06/06/2018 16:19

Took 9 months trying with DD1 at 34 (two early miscarriages in that time too) however with DD2 I had my coil removed and must have conceived the first time we dtd which took us by surprise- her due date was pretty much bang on 9 months after having it removed.

sexnotgender · 06/06/2018 16:21

I’m 36 and I’m 7 weeks pregnant. Been trying since February and had an early miscarriage in April.

KeefBurtain · 06/06/2018 16:24

I was 35 when I conceived on 3rd cycle. Conceived again 2 months before my 37th birthday on 4th cycle but ended in mmc.
Just finished my 1st period since mc so back ttc

KentUnicorn · 06/06/2018 17:20

Thanks all for the responses, great to hear so many successes and sorry to those who've had losses along their journey x

I'm 38, currently 6 weeks with our first but took us 5 years TTC (yep, since I was 33). Had tests, nothing wrong with either of us, tried ovulation sticks, useless, then it just happened as had pretty much given up hope.

gryffen · 06/06/2018 18:01

Took 10yrs and being told we would never have kids and she was born 2014. Now pregnant 30 weeks with second after two months max of trying.

Good luck mamas

Liz38 · 06/06/2018 18:02

I got pregnant first try at 37 with my first child. I felt very lucky.

somersetsoul · 06/06/2018 18:25

1st attempt at 35! Now 36 and 22 weeks. This is number three. Dc1 took 18mo ttc and dc2 was the first attempt as well. Feel extremely lucky.

Good luck 🙂

MonkeyBrainsInPickle · 06/06/2018 19:41

Complete fluke i’m sure but we had sex once and I feel pregnant. I’m 24 weeks. Was 36 when I feel pregnant and have just turned 37.

MonkeyBrainsInPickle · 06/06/2018 19:44

Pregnant with my second baby now. Started trying for my first at 32, took around three months but micarried. Left it a couple of months to start trying again and got pregnant in another 3 months at 33 and was 34 when I gave birth. I did use OPKs the first time round.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 06/06/2018 19:46

40 and having dc2 by elective section tomorrow.

Ds born when I was 37, conceived cycle 1.
This baby took 5 cycles, turns out I didn't ovulate when I thought I did and as soon as we sorted that, I fell pregnant.

Took multivitamins and tried to eat healthily/exercise, no idea if that played a part though as I have a family tree of women having babies into their mid 40s which according to my consultant is a factor too.

Good Luck.

isambardo · 06/06/2018 20:09

I’m 37 and it took four or five months this time.

Got pregnant first month both times when I had dc’s in my early 30s, also got pregnant quickly last year but had two miscarriages. So I guess it takes a bit longer now I’m older and perhaps due to age I’m more likely to miscarry. (Anecdotal obviously).

2good · 06/06/2018 21:13

I'm 37, Ftm. It took 6 months initially but then miscarried 6 weeks later. Waited about a month and started again- took about 4 months the 2nd time. I'm currently 40 weeks + 5 days 😊
