Scan at 9wks - what should I expect?

I had a tiny bit of bleeding and have been having pains in my hips and pelvis so EPU have booked me in for scan on Monday. I'll be nine weeks pregnant by then. Assuming everything is ok, what should I expect to see and hear? I don't want to panic unnecessarily so please share your experiences.

Thank you!

Well when I had mine a few weeks ago and they dated me at 7 weeks. I saw a well formed baby!
Head, body, legs and heartbeat.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 18/05/2007 10:16

Hope that everything is fine for you. i had a scan at 6 +1 couldnt see much of a shape except like a kidney bean but did see the heart flickering away. my 8 +3 scan saw full formed baby shape.

Good Luck for monday xx

Mumpbump · 18/05/2007 10:16

Had a scan at about 8 weeks and they saw a sac and a baby with a heartbeat. The baby was curled up, so couldn't see much, but definitely there!

fleacircus · 18/05/2007 10:18

Wow - that would be amazing! Am just hoping for a heartbeat, really, but to actually see a baby must be fantastic.

Fleacircus im the same as you. Have had a tiny bit of bleedin and going for a scan on Monday. Think I will be about 9 weeks on Tuesday.
Fingers crossed!

Nbg · 18/05/2007 10:39

Also forgot to add that I think their dates were wrong and really I was 9 weeks.

fleacircus · 18/05/2007 12:28

Horrible waiting isn't it Frogger. I haven't seen any more blood so am just trying to be positive and look forward to the scan - it's either going to be devastating or amazing so I'm focusing on amazing!

Im focusing on positive too. My midwife phoned this morning and I have my booking in appointment on Tuesday so im hoping everything is ok so I dont have to cancel that again.
My bleeding has stopped too and the sun has come out so surely thats a good sign!

lilylilyrose · 18/05/2007 13:06

I had a scan at 9+1, it looks like a little jelly baby on the scan picture

flipflopper · 18/05/2007 13:32

NBG, can i just ask, why do you think they got your dates wrong at the scan? I thought they could accuratly date you from an early scan like that?

fleacircus · 18/05/2007 13:49

Lovely reading the replies, I was dreading Monday a bit but am starting to look forward to it. Frogger - noticed on another thread that you are due on 25th Dec - me too, also with my first. Have you made any Christmas plans yet or are you waiting until nearer the time?

frogger77 · 18/05/2007 15:18

My Dad has been sailing round the world for the last two years and is due to come back in August so my Mum is all set for a huge Christmas with all the family. Not sure how bump is going to fit into the scenario!?!
My parents live up in the highlands too so be a bit nervous about getting snowed in etc!
How about you any plans for Christmas? (other than having a baby i mean!)

fleacircus · 18/05/2007 15:48

Am using baby as excuse to escape the whole thing... just want to hide away with DP and the newbie when it appears. DP is fabulous cook and makes an amazing Christmas dinner, so will stuff my face with my feet up. Working up to imposing 2-week no visiting period but not sure if I can handle the family reactions!

Sounds like a cunning plan. My dh is a rubbish cook so if left to him will probably be eating bangers and "smash" ugh!
Believe first babies are usually late though. Probably come on New Years Eve!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/05/2007 20:21

Good Luck tomorrow ladies x

frogger77 · 20/05/2007 21:08

Thank you Pinkranger!

hodgeymum · 20/05/2007 21:32

good luck to you all having your scans, fingers crossed for good news.the earlier the scan the more accurate your due date will be,my dates matched scan dates exactly at this stage and baby looks just like a jelyl baby with tiny arms and legs-how cute!

frogger77 · 21/05/2007 14:43

How did you get on fleacircus?

I have been put back two weeks they think I am more likely 6+1 instead of the 8+1 I originally thought. They can see a sac and a fetal pole just not big enough to see heartbeat yet. I was unsure of my dates as I had not had a period since my miscarriage in Feb. I have to go back in ten days time to check if its a viable pregnancy.
Just in limbo now. I really hope it is just a case of me getting my dates wrong.
Hope yours was more succesful Fleacircus.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 22/05/2007 18:07

Frogger , how awful for you to have to wait 10 more days!!! Hope they have got your dates wronge as i know this can happen!

Good Luck x

fleacircus · 22/05/2007 18:12

Mine went well, saw a blob which nurse assured me was embryo with yolk and umbilical cord and heartbeat, it was amazing. DP missed it because I arrived early and they saw me straight away but they gave me a picture - a grey blob in a bigger darker blob.

Sorry you've got to wait longer Frogger - does that mean you're back next Thursday? What they saw sounds promising though and presumably is in the right place so not another ectopic. Will be thinking of you.

Thanks for positive vibes Pink ranger.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 31/05/2007 11:41

How did you get on frogger x all well i hope xx

frogger77 · 31/05/2007 12:19

I had my scan this morning but unfortunately it appears to have been a missed miscarriage. There had been no change in ten days. I am mainly numb at the moment. I am being referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic as this is my third. Have to wait for four months for referral and before i start ttc again.
Goodluck for everybody else and hop you all have very happy and healthy pregnancies.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 31/05/2007 16:34

frogger so sorry for you

frogger77 · 31/05/2007 16:46

Thank you Pinkranger. At least I should hopefully get some answers from the clinic. Just a shame it is a long time away!
