Size 1 nappies? How long are they in them

Waterfountain97 · 13/05/2018 12:55

I'm 31 weeks and going nappy shopping today( everyone is different I want to be prepared) don't judge
But yes this is my first and was wondering how long they are in size 1 for ? As I have 5 packs of size 1 already and was wondering if I should go buy size 2 today or just some more size 1 as I've been told newborns go through ALOT of nappies

It is always handy to have a packet of the next size up in your house as it makes it easier to decide if is time for the next size.

I think DD was only in size 1 for two weeks about the same time she moved from up to 1 months clothes to 0-3 year old clothes

LemonyFresh · 13/05/2018 12:58

I would say that's more than enough, buy a pack of 2 and 3 and just stock up when you need.

EB123 · 13/05/2018 12:59

I only had a couple of packs of size 1 for the first week or so and then more of size 2. It will depend on the size of baby though!

betterbemoreorganised · 13/05/2018 12:59

I think I used about 7 small packs of size 1. The ones with the wee indicator strips are best for in hospital.
I bought 4 packs of size 1 and 4 of size 2 before I had my baby so I'd be ok for the first week or so.

gingerbreadbiscuits · 13/05/2018 12:59

Do you do online shopping? It is handy with a baby and it would mean you can just order nappy to your house.

I would not buy too many things like nappies and wipes in case they irritate your baby’s skin and you need to change brand

EB123 · 13/05/2018 13:03

Also i ahree with gingerbread, don't buy too many because babies do get irritated by different brands of nappies and wipes.

My DS is 7 weeks old and only just going into size 2! All depends on size of baby Smile

NerrSnerr · 13/05/2018 13:08

Depends on size of baby. My little boy is 13 Months and still in size 3.

NickMyLipple · 13/05/2018 13:10

My DD is 8 weeks and I haven't even considered that size 1 might be too small yet...

randomsabreuse · 13/05/2018 13:11

Really don't buy too many in advance - newborns change shape so much and you may find only one brand contains the inevitable poo explosions...

userabcname · 13/05/2018 13:14

I think stop there tbh. DS wasn't in size 1 for long, didn't even go into size 2s as he went through a huuuge growth spurt practically overnight so we went straight to size 3. See how big your baby is and order online if you are worried about getting out and about with a newborn.

buzz91 · 13/05/2018 13:22

Mine was in size 1 for 3 and a half months, but I had size 2's ready and I had some size 3's from pre-baby too, they'll get used.

I had loads of different brands to see which we both liked the most too.

Amazon Prime is a savoir, I buy giant boxes of nappies when I'm nearing the end and they arrive the next day.

Jozxyqk · 13/05/2018 13:28

Depends - how big the packs are, how sensitive your child's skin is, & how lucky you are with nappy changes... we used to joke that DD deliberately waited for us to change her nappy before she'd wee. Nappy off, clean bottom, nappy half on, wee. Repeat. Wee again. Repeat. Repeat. Think the record was 4 nappies wasted in 1 change... in the end we just used to clean her up & lay her, bare bottom out, on an old terry nappy on top of the changing mat for 20 minutes. Apparently I used to do the same & my mum had kept all my old terry towel nappies so we had a big stack of them available. We could often go through 14 nappies per day when DD was tiny.

We moved DD up to size 2 nappies around the same time as she went into 0-3 clothes - about 9 days old. Large baby. Could always tell when it was time to change because they would suddenly start leaking much more often & badly.

Lightsong · 13/05/2018 13:36

My DS wasn't in size 1 or 2 for very long all, normal birth weight but beefed up really well lol. He stayed in size 3 for a really long time and has been size 4 since about 8m, still is now at 13m

BikeRunSki · 13/05/2018 13:38

Mine went straight into size 3

mouseistrapped · 13/05/2018 13:40

Mine was in size 2 by the end of the first week as he was over 10 lbs when born ! Depends on their size and growth really.

TalkFastThinkSlow · 13/05/2018 13:41

DS is a big child. I think he was in size 1s for a month or 2. It was only a couple of years ago but the whole time is a blur, I can barely remember!

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 13/05/2018 17:35

I know you want to be prepared (which is fine) but don't stockpile a lot, especially if it's all the same brand. Different babies suit different nappies and you'll have no idea which is the best fit for your baby until it's born. I've always got on really well with Asda and Tesco's own brand nappies but one of my friends hated them, also have one friend who raves about the Aldi nappies while another found they leaked constantly.

I can't really remember how long DD was in size 1 but it wasn't that long, same with size 2. They tend to spend longer in sizes 3 and 4.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 13/05/2018 17:37

Tesco size 1 are very good
Excellent poo retention
Good for small infants
Great for massive infants (like mine)

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 13/05/2018 17:40

Pa don’t buy Sainsbury’s. They really messed up DS’ bottom

SockQueen · 13/05/2018 19:30

DS was 10lb and only in size 1s for about 2 weeks. I can't remember how many packs we got through but it was definitely less than 5.

On the other hand, I saw a friend at the weekend whose baby was only 5lb at birth and still hasn't hit 10 at 12 weeks so is still in size 1s. But there's no need to stockpile loads unless they're on a super-duper special offer - you will just start putting them in your regular supermarket shop and one shop or another has a "baby event" on pretty much every month.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 13/05/2018 20:51

2 weeks if that - but I do have massive babies. One DS was 12lb at birth.... don’t think he even wore size 1

TonicClonicAndTheWaves · 13/05/2018 22:55

We've had to buy extra size 0s today for our new DD - she is on the dinky side but the size 1s I'd bought absolutely drown her. If you live close to a decent sized shop you'll be able to get a hold of more v easily so don't worry about stockpiling.

Littlemissdaredevil · 14/05/2018 08:33

I got loads of sample packs of nappies and some full sizes packs (and the same with wipes) from going to a Mothercare expectant parent event, bounty packs, Emma’s diary packs, etc. This allowed my to try out the different brands and find out which fitted her best.

I think my daughter was in size 1 for 7/8 weeks - but she was dinky
