Early scan anxiety? 7 weeks

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 11:09

By my own dates I’m 7+3 today (going by date of conception, very long cycles!). My anxiety has been through the roof recently and although initially DH didn’t want to pay for an early private scan, he’s agreed and we’ve managed to get a slot for 4:15 today to hopefully put my mind at ease.

Except now I’m in a bit of panic about the early scan and what if it’s not good news?! I don’t really know what to expect for 7 weeks. Anyone had one roughly the same time and have any ideas what I should expect?

Hi OP I’m 7 weeks and set to have an early scan next week as well. Although they haven’t called.
I asked on another forum what the scans were like and they are internal scans, and will show a little blob shape with a heart beat if everything is ok.

The way I look at it is if every thing isn’t ok then at least it’s better to know sooner rather than later.
Sometimes people get to their 12 week scan to find out the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. For me, I’d rather know sooner.

And if you find out that all is well, then you only have 5 more weeks before the 12 week scan.

Would you mind coming on here and telling me how it was (if you want), I’d love to know!

TinyTerror1 · 13/05/2018 12:38

Good luck with your scan today OP (and yours this week PP).

Just to let you know, you will get nervous every time you have a scan! I'm 19 weeks and I've got my anomaly scan on Wednesday and even though I'm fairly sure I can feel baby moving about from time to time I'm still petrified I'm going to get there and find it's all gone wrong. I can't wait until I can feel her moving around properly! x

Thanks so much for your responses ladies! It’s very appreciated.

@SecretStash I agree I’d rather just know. I have an NHS scan on the 4th June which they’re calling my 13 week scan, however I have very long cycles so know I’m at least 2 and a half weeks behind whatever the midwives are currently dating me. I know that’s only 3 weeks away but I just couldn’t wait! I’ll make sure to come back here and update after :)

@TinyTerror1 Good luck! I’m sure it’ll be fine, but totally agree I’ll probably be nervous every scan! Pregnancy has turned me into a nervous wreck 😂

OP, so when they go to scan you, you could just be 4-5 weeks pregnant?

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 13:37

@SecretStash sorry, I don’t think I explained myself well. I’m around 7 weeks now (based on OPK, BBT and conception dates) but I ovulate around 2 and a half weeks later than ‘normal’, however they’re still dating me from last day of my previous period so my midwife is currently counting me as around 10 weeks but I know I’m only about 7. I’ve got a scan on 4th June which midwives are dating as 13 weeks but I know I’ll only be about 10 1/2 by then.

Oh I see!!!
Oh wow today’s scan will be very revealing then!
How exciting, I look forward to your update!

SecretStash · 13/05/2018 13:40

Interestingly OP, we only had sex once on the month we conceived, on day 8. I had absolutely no idea I’d get pregnant a week before ovulation (I thought sperm lived 1-2 days, 5 days in rarer circumstances!) so I’ve wondered if this affects how far along I am?!

How knew you could get pregnant by doing it once on day 8!

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 14:07

@SecretStash I’m definitely hoping for a nice strong heartbeat! It’s definitely a bit mad all the times you can conceive considering how long we try! I’m fairly certain I conceived on day 31 of my cycle, the previous cycle I ovulated day 92 so I was literally all over the place! Sperm can definitely stick around a while!

Wow!!! Bloody hell thats some really confusing cycles.

But hey..... 2 hours and counting!!!

AJ89 · 13/05/2018 14:27

Hope it goes well for you! I had a scan at 7+1, was abdominal and saw a heartbeat. I was the same as you, so anxious. I was the same for my 12 week scan too so don’t think it gets easier. I have been much more relaxed since then though.

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 14:29

Leaving home in just over half an hour to make sure we get there in plenty of time!

OP posts:
SecretStash · 13/05/2018 14:45

Oh it’s abdominal at 7 weeks?! Great, I assumed it was internal.

Whattheactualfuckmate · 13/05/2018 14:48

picket I’ve had scan training and you should be able to find a heartbeat easily at 7 weeks. They should be able to measure and tell you how far you are.

Good luck!

Whattheactualfuckmate · 13/05/2018 14:48

Drink plenty of water also

Downeyhouse · 13/05/2018 14:51

Good luck hope everything is ok and you can date your pregnancy.

kaytees · 13/05/2018 14:54

Good luck OP! I had an early scan yesterday at 6+2. It was internal. Could clearly see a little blob that was baby and yolk sac. Could see heartbeat too. It doesn't look much like how you picture a scan but it's reassuring all the same! At over 7 weeks it may not need to be internal, so you may be spared the wand!

Mummytooscarleo · 13/05/2018 15:05

I thought I was around 6weeks but had scan last Monday and they didn't see anything and they are saying maybe dates wrong and im earlier then what I think got to go back again tomoz 😟

MagicalCreatures · 13/05/2018 16:57

Hey Hun. How did you get on with your scan? X

SecretStash · 13/05/2018 17:23

From experience of private scans they are often running very behind schedule and probably more so at the end of the day.
Hope it’s gone smoothly!

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 18:49

They were running incredibly behind. Over an hour and a half after my appointment I was actually seen. Ended up peeing just before as I was genuinely about to explode otherwise!!

However. All went well :) I saw my little blob who is measuring perfectly at 7+4, with a heart rate of 143bpm. Chip (as we’ve affectionately named it so far!) looks perfect and no concerns raised :)

Lovely news! And you were right about when you ovulates!

Downeyhouse · 13/05/2018 19:15

Ahhhh lovely news congratulations.

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 19:23

Thanks ladies :) yes I was almost spot on with ovulation and conception date! They advised me to let my midwife know as I’m going for my ‘12 week scan’ on the 4th June but will only be 10+5 so might need changing.

OP posts:
lapenguin · 13/05/2018 19:58

They might scan you twice if at the first 12 week scan you are actually behind, as there are some tests that have to wait until 12 weeks, could be a way to see baby twice ;)
But I suppose that wouldn't be good for the NHS pocket :p

TinyTerror1 · 13/05/2018 20:22

Great news, glad baby is fine :)
