After I had my baby, the midwives, doctors and health visitors told me how super fertile I’d be, and stressed the importance of contraception.

And it got me thinking, is this true! 🤔

So, how many of you, got pregnant naturally, either planned or unplanned within 12 months of giving birth.

To clarify, I’m not pregnant, just curious. 🙂

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lightcola · 29/04/2018 17:35

Not me because I wouldn’t let him near me, but my friend was pregnant again 4 months later.

CuriousCatty · 29/04/2018 18:12

@lightcola that made me chuckle!

Not me. I breastfed and periods didn't return till 19 months after...

I'm always amazed when people managed to conceive 4 weeks after birth, as my vagina was still too fragile for sex then!

RocketPockets · 29/04/2018 18:16

My younger sister got pregnant within 3 months (11 months apart) and my older sister got pregnant within a year I think.
I know a few people that got pregnant in my due date group within a year as well!

Poptart4 · 29/04/2018 18:16

I know 5 women who had babies 11 months apart, unplanned obviously. One even had twins 11 months after her first child. So 3 babies under 1. It was very hard on her. I certainly would take the advice and be careful unless that's what you want.

Mannix · 29/04/2018 18:18

I did - just about (maybe slightly over 12 months actually). Planned.

greathat · 29/04/2018 18:18

I know a couple of people who've had ivf. Then the second very quickly after naturally

pregle · 29/04/2018 18:19

Yep, happened to me. 5 years and 3 ivf cycles to have our little boy, surprise natural pregnancy when he was 7 months!

CuriousCatty · 29/04/2018 18:20

Crikey @Poptart4, 3 children under 1, sounds tough!

I'd like another baby, but not just yet. I just wanted to know if this whole super fertility thing was true!

Not me - my period didn’t come back until I had completely stopped breastfeeding when DC1 was 11 months old. I did actually fall pregnant the following month (so exactly a year later) but it was a chemical pregnancy/very early MC. I think of it as my body’s way of saying it wasn’t quite ready.

GreenMeerkat · 29/04/2018 18:28

Me! Unplanned second pregnancy when DD was 9 months.

It certainly is true. Though the way health visitors and midwives harp on about it annoys me. Some people may actually want more children right away.

Namethecat · 29/04/2018 18:31

When I was at school ( years ago ) there was two sisters who were 8 months apart !! ( Stating obvious here - younger one was prem) but wow !

CuriousCatty · 29/04/2018 19:15

Thanks everyone for your input! 👍🏼

Me! Planned! Due mid June and Ds1 is 1 mid May.

MrsG95 · 29/04/2018 19:23

My nephew's were born same day, a year apart

CuriousCatty · 29/04/2018 19:30

Wow @MrsG95

Their mother then left my brother soon after and got pregnant to someone else. He was born a year and 7 days after.
So she had a 2yo and 1yo on Aug 14th, and a newborn 21st. Haha

cheeseandchoc · 29/04/2018 19:39

It happened to me. Thought I'd had my miracle baby, but fell pregnant straight after. There's just 10.5 mths between my two.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 29/04/2018 19:52

If you're breastfeeding then you're definitely not super fertile afterwards, quite the opposite for the first 6 months (at least), although precautions are still necessary as it's not foolproof.

3boysandabump · 29/04/2018 20:02

My first 2 are 13 months apart

Melmam · 29/04/2018 20:08

Me I fell pregnant when my ds was 6 months old unplanned they the best of pals

rosamore · 29/04/2018 20:21

I was. My Dc are born less than 10 months apart. I breastfed my eldest and was told by my midwife that I couldn't get pregnant (or at least, that's what I thought she said but it turns out my translation was wrong Hmm - I was also young and didn't have any knowledge myself, really).

It's the same after a miscarriage. I had one last year after a year of trying to conceive in the first place, decided to wait a couple of years before trying again but I was pregnant again within 6 weeks. After this baby I'm having the implant put in immediately and keeping DH away from me for at least 3 months!

YearOfYouRemember · 29/04/2018 20:23

I was already pregnant by the time dd was one but I didn't know it and then miscarried.

CuriousCatty · 29/04/2018 20:31

I'm so sorry to hear that @YearOfYouRemember

DC1 has just turned 15 months. DC2 is due in the next few weeks.

Despite breastfeeding until 6 months my periods returned at 8 weeks post partum, so it wasn't a surprise. Although I wouldn't say we deliberately planned to have 2 so close together we took no precautions whatsoever and just left it up to fate.

I don't want 3 under 3 though so this time round I will be speaking to the GP about contraception at the 8 weeks check-up for DC2.
