Shoulder pain in pregnancy

I'm 26 weeks and have really annoying shoulder pain in my left shoulder... Anyone else had this? Is it pregnancy related? Is it a bad sign?!

Thanks!

I recall having that, both pregnancies were normal with no issues. I wouldn’t worry but just mention it to midwife when you next see her

Ok great - thanks for the reassurance! :-)

Hi
I don't want to panic you but in a few rare cases this be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy-have a read of [[https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/ectopic-pregnancy/symptoms/ this article]]

Go swimming. Its so easy to do little sprains etc in pregnancy. A gentle swim in warm water helped my back so much in pregnancy

If it's radiating from under your right ribs it can (rarely) be a sign of pre eclampsia. It's called referred pain.

Its very unlikely if you're not having other symptoms but worth mentioning to your midwife.

My pain was not pre-eclampsia by the way, it was referred pain but from rib flare, but my friend had lots of her more obvious pre-e symptoms ignored and did have it - not all HCPs are as aware as they should be (triage told me pain in my shoulder couldn't possibly be pregnancy related - I'd been told to call them by another HCP).

I have had this!!!! Come and goes
At one point it was so bad it hurt to breathe..
For me I think it's because I sleep/rest on my left side because of my awful SPD so it's just a lot of pressure on my left shoulder!
And the fact I'm just generally inactive at the moment!

Midwife and Physio weren't concerned
Just 'one of those things' 😬

I have had it too from sleeping on my side - I have shoulders that sublux when rolling over in bed normally so pregnancy had made it worse. It's so painful. Swimming helps.

Great thanks for advice, I'll go shopping for maternity swimwear today :-)

I had a painful shoulder for a week or so, then it turned into carpel tunnel (possibly something to do with a trapped nerve). It went away and left me with numb fingers which have become easier to deal with.

Just thought I would add another possibility!
