Hi I recently bought clear blue advanced fertility monitor and pinpointed my ovulation dated I DID twice on the day before ovulation and on the day after . What are the chances of becoming pregnant. And how soon can I test so I really have to wait until the first day of my next expected period ? This two week wait is frustrating

There is no way to know how likely it is to be successful unfortunately; you can try and test a few days before your period is due, there are some tests that are more sensitive early on but if they are negative and your AF doesn't come then you will need to re-test.
I did a cheap test from savers (2 in a pack for a few pounds) 4 days before my AF was due and got a BFP but I was lucky and this isn't the case for many people. There is no harm in testing early but it depends on how you will feel if the result is negative and it might be worth waiting if you can.

First time three times (and we really weren't trying). We are very, very lucky. Lost first pregnancy but pregnant 4months later with DD at first attempt. Having a DS in 10 weeks, also a first attempt. PP's suggestion about remaining lying down had a lot to do with it. Had unprotected and more regular sex in the seven or eight years before but not around ovulation time. Not a hint of a pregnancy ever before the first one.

Flatwhite32 · 26/04/2018 18:37

Not me, but I was lucky in that it took us less than 6 months both times. Came off pill age 31 in Feb 2017, got pregnant in June 2017. Unfortunately we lost our little bean at 12 weeks in August. Got a BFP again in November (think I conceived right at the end of October) and am currently 27 weeks. Everyone is different! With my first pregnancy, I didn't use OPKs until the cycle I fell pregnant. Used them again when we started trying again after the MMC.

foreverclockwatching · 26/04/2018 18:42

I have got pregnant every time I have tried first time. So 4 times, but not necessarily a good thing as 2 were chemical pregnancies. DD1 is now 18 months and am 6w2.

foreverclockwatching · 26/04/2018 18:44

Also i would advise against testing early from experience, I might not even have known about 1st chemical had I not tested early.

Thanks for your advice it's been really helpful

The flipside to getting pregnant on the first time is that it happens too soon - you miss out on the fun of trying!

(And, yes, I also know the grimness of miscarriages, when trying stops being fun. ((((hugs)))) to people experiencing this.)

giraffelove · 26/04/2018 19:16

I did, with twins!

It is very rare and I really wasn't expecting it to happen so quick!

Flyingchimps · 27/04/2018 00:10

We were lucky. We are one of those couples who didn’t expect it to happen so quickly due to my irregular periods, but within a month of deciding to stop actively preventing we had a bfp.

On the other hand I have a friend who is regular as clockwork and tracks her ovulation who has been trying for 3 years to no avail. They’ve both been tested and no reason can be found ☹️

So I guess it honestly is luck of the draw.

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2018 00:28

I got pregnant with DS2 the one & only time we DTD the first month we tried.

Which was a bit of a shock as I was still breastfeeding & also because it had taken almost a year to conceive DC1.

Ash1992 · 27/04/2018 08:04

How do you survive the two week wait I have to wait until the 7th and see if AF arrives however I normally get some signs or spotting the 4th if I am having a period. Don't really know when to test

I did with both my children. Very regular cycle, knew exactly when ovulating etc.

Ash1992 · 27/04/2018 09:03

My cycle is very regular every month I ovulate on cd17

My period can start one or two days before or after each month is this normal

Like you OP my cycle varies from 28-32 days and I often get spotting a couple of days before my period. In fact, I had spotting early on 29 January (day 30) and assumed it was my period, then when nothing further by 1 Feb I tested and it came back negative. I was getting a load of symptoms though so I waited a full week with no sign of AF and tested positive on 8 Feb. I don't know whether I had a really late implantation bleed or what, but an early test would have been no help at all.

OhHolyJesus · 27/04/2018 09:17

OP I was about to start fertility testing when I got pregnant. I went for blood tests and found out I was already pregnant. First try (not trying that hard) and late 30s.

Everyone is different but I felt I was pressured by media and stories of how hard it was going to be and I should have just relaxed about it!

NickMarlow · 27/04/2018 09:21

It took us 11 cycles with dd, and 18 with this pregnancy. Had tests after a year and everything looked fine, it just took us a long time. Lots of our friends and family were much quicker but for some people it just takes a while even if nothing is wrong.

JellySlice · 27/04/2018 13:02

How do you survive the two week wait

By ignoring it.

I had an irregular cycle, so I always logged the first day of my period. Because my cycle could be anything up to 5w, I never tested before 5w. Otherwise I would have been a nervous wreck!

GottaBeStrong · 27/04/2018 18:34

I got pregnant the first month of trying after having the Mirena coil out. I am 37 and had endometriosis treated by surgery so assumed it would take longer. I guessed ovulation but also read to just DTD every three days. We were just enjoying ourselves no pressure and no ovulation sticks or anything. I waited until the day after my period was due to test for pregnancy. I knew around 5 days before because I started feeling really unwell and in an unusual way for me.

I actually have three friends who all conceived easily. One accidentally during a fling, one first month and second time accidentally and the other has PCOS but conceived first month too.

DragonMummy1418 · 27/04/2018 18:59

I did 2nd and 3rd month of trying with mine.
Each time it was on the month where we relaxed and enjoyed it that it happened 😁 😂

PasstheStarmix · 27/04/2018 19:02

Got pregnant straight away in the first month and didn’t track ovulation. We just let nature take its course.

PasstheStarmix · 27/04/2018 19:03

I first tested the day of my missed period and positive.

KNain · 27/04/2018 19:57

Not sure how helpful it will be to know when random women on the internet got pregnant. But for what it's worth with DS I fell pregnant after 6 months of trying - dtd once that month and currently 16 weeks pregnant with DC2 - conceived on first month of trying (dtd twice). So I guess it's down to having sex at the right time and luck! (We did dtd more than once/twice on other months but just so happened that on the months I conceived we didn't!)

For the 2ww I found it helped a bit to plan something that would be a bit of an inconvenience to do if I was pregnant, for just after the 2ww - so a night out where I would normal drink for example. That way if you don't get pregnant at least it's not impeded those plans.

Ash1992 · 02/05/2018 07:26

I tested negative for pregnancy 6 days before my period is due :( I will wait to test again

Took Dh and I almost 2 years. We are 36 now though. Then we got a Bfp but it ended in an early loss at just 5 weeks. Was devastating. However, got another Bfp two months later and I'm seven weeks now. 6 days might be a bit too early still to test? I got a Bfp this time 3 days before I was due on. Good luck Op x
