When did you get your c section date?

Does anyone know when the hospital ring to tell you your c section date?
I'm booked to have one next week (39 weeks) and they still haven't rang!
My midwife said at my appointment last week they usually book in for 39 or 39+1.
I'm 38 weeks today so thought they would ring today to tell me the date, but I've had nothing!
Should I ring tomorrow if I've still not heard anything?

I would def ring tomorrow, that's cutting it close! I have an appointment made for 36 weeks to see my consultant and set the date, but have known since 12 weeks it'll be one of 2 days when I'm 39 weeks.

EeekPreggoAgain · 24/04/2018 18:52

Hi both, can I just ask - have you self elected? Have you faced much resistance? After the disaster that was my first (ICP, Pre-eclampsia, ending up unconscious and missing the whole thing!) I’m strongly leaning towards an elective c section just to have a bit of control. Just wondered what your experiences have been. Thanks. X

emily199027 · 24/04/2018 19:08

@Thistles24 I will definitely ring tomorrow. I've got things that need planning and my husband has had to book holidays off because he can't get paternity leave so if it's not going to be early next week, he doesn't need to waste precious holidays! We've also got a 2.5 year old that we've got to sort out.
I have no idea why they couldn't just give us a date at my booking in appointment!

@EeekPreggoAgain yes mine is elective, very supportive midwife but I've been pushed from pillar to post at the hospital. But after seeing the right person I was finally told I could have one as soon as she looked at my notes! As far as I'm aware, it's your choice and they can't refuse you one. I think anyway!!

I was given a date by a consultant for DS2 around 28 weeks. Mine was because I had pre-eclampsia with DS1 and had an emergency c section. I went into natural labour in the end though so didn't need it!

iwasjustakid · 24/04/2018 19:36

@EeekPreggoAgain I was told I had to have a c-section with my second due to pre-eclampsia with the first, I'm surprised they've not done the same with you.

NameChangeCuddleBums · 24/04/2018 19:39

I had my date from 12 weeks. Elective section first baby, it’s tomorrow! No problems with the hospital.

Tralala33 · 24/04/2018 19:46

I got the call on a Friday, pre op Monday, section Tuesday.
I was told not to expect much notice.

YouCantBeSirius · 24/04/2018 19:51

I've been told I'll get the date for my c section at my 36 week appointment.

Bowlofbabelfish · 24/04/2018 19:54

32 weeks but was needed at 38
Call them.

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 24/04/2018 19:58

I was given my date at 16 weeks, which was altered and brought forward at 36 weeks. We were told however that electives can be cancelled last minute due to emergencies (although that wasn’t the case for us)

Thistles24 · 24/04/2018 20:20

Yes, mine was elective. First birth was traumatic and developed SPD as a result of it which took over a year to clear (didn't have any sign of it until after the birth). It nearly crippled me 2nd time round and I was scared it would be a long recovery again but with 2 children would be much harder. No resistance at all from my consultant. This time I just asked for another as we don't have a ICU or neonatal unit in our hospital, so I think it's safer not to try a VBAC.

miki123 · 24/04/2018 22:30

With both of mine I found out the date at around the 30 week mark (both done at exactly 39 weeks.

emily199027 · 25/04/2018 07:09

Thanks everyone. I'll give them a ring this morning!

Rang them and said they'll ring back but might not hear till Friday! Ridiculous!!

OP posts:
miki123 · 25/04/2018 14:07

That truly is ridiculous and not very fair on you :-(

Fatted · 25/04/2018 14:15

I guess every hospital is different. I'm sure my second was booked at least 4 weeks in advance. I was booked in for 39 weeks.

As it turns out I ended up in hospital at 37 weeks and had my section squeezed in at 38 weeks.

emily199027 · 25/04/2018 16:24

Say if they ring Friday and say I'm booked in for Tuesday, I'm supposed to go and get my bloods done a few days before, well I won't be able to do that because they only do bloods Monday - Friday and the hospital is a good 30 minute drive away. I've heard nothing today so I'm guessing I won't now.

I also have my grandads funeral on 8th May. My actual due date - what's the chances of that! So now I'm needing to know when my date is so I can tell my mum if I might be able to make it or not be able to make it at all. I guess I'm going to have to take that as it comes though depending on how I'm recovering. This is so stressful!

My hospital has a section clinic on the Friday of the week before. They cut it fine, as they don't know for sure how many there will be, and have to juggle them all appropriately. I got my date 4 days before mine. Hope it all goes well.

emily199027 · 25/04/2018 16:59

@barneymcgroo which hospital is that if you don't mind me asking?
I find it unbelievable how so many different hospitals can have different ways of doing it!

Takfujuimoto · 25/04/2018 17:04

I would ring tomorrow it's cutting close Confused
My first was given 1 month in advance for 40 weeks and then at 38 weeks they moved it to 39 weeks so I had a week less to prepare.

Second was given the date at my 28 week appt for 39 weeks. Consultant just whipped her book out then and there and squared it away Grin

Third was given at 34 weeks for 36 weeks due to complications.

emily199027 · 25/04/2018 20:45

I'll definitely ring again in the morning!

How did everyone find their planned sections? I'm getting a little nervous!!

OP posts:
Tallvalley · 25/04/2018 20:54

I was told I need to have a section between the 3-10 May today so I booked it straight away for the 4th.
It was the same for my son, I was told the week and I just booked it straight away.

horseylady · 25/04/2018 20:59

I got mine at 36 weeks

snowballsandsunshine · 25/04/2018 21:08

I'm 20 weeks and I'm getting booked in to see he consultant to set the date within the next four weeks. I've already been told it'll be at roughly 39 weeks.

barneymcgroo · 26/04/2018 05:06

Mine was in Aberdeen.

How did I find it? Couldn't have faulted the staff - incredibly quick and professional. I had to have one due to the way my baby was presenting, so wasn't that keen, but they made it feel like less of a procedure. You can ask them to show you the baby first, so you can find out the sex for yourself (if you don't already know), have your DP in there with you before your anaesthetic. Buy some biiiiiig pants for after...
