Passed huge blood clot...

Hi all. I'm 9+3 and have already been to EPAU for bleeding at 6 weeks. It was all fine and eased off and no sign of it for two weeks or so. Last night and this morning however I passed two big red clots of blood (bigger than I've ever seen in any period). Nothing else, no other bleeding, when I put my finger inside to have a feel it comes out completely clean. I was at the doctors yesterday for morning sickness, and have booked another appointment for this morning (doc is not going to be happy to see me two days in a row I can imagine!). Is this something I should worry about when I've already had a scan? Should I push for another scan? I'm going out of my mind as I've had two miscarriages before. Really terrified...

Slowly realising that 8am is a little early for mn posts! Should've posted a little later, oops. Anxiety central Sad

Your best bet would be to contact EPAC. Bleeding in pregnancy isn't uncommon, but it's not normal. I doubt your GP will do anything other than refer you to EPAC

PenguinChristmas · 10/04/2018 09:15

I’d call the EPU for advice they may want to scan you again to check for any obvious causes.

Emma198 · 10/04/2018 09:19

Doc will probably send you to EPAU so if you can contact them direct I'd do that. When I had bleeding EPAU told me to go to docs and he referred me straight back to them so felt like a bit of a waste of time!

Caramina · 10/04/2018 09:20

Thanks both. I phoned EPAU and they said they need a referral from GP. Really terrified. I had two miscarriages before and it was just like this, but much earlier on. This is the first time I've made it to 9 weeks with a much wanted pregnancy. I'll be devastated if it's another miscarriage.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I had the same in my second pregnancy (the result is now a gorgeous 7 yo). I was back and forth to the epu so much I practically had my own parking space!

Call the epu direct, there isn't much your gp can do. I know it's worrying but when it happened to me the sonographer said it happens more than you think and for no known reason what so ever. As long as the clots are not from the same part of the uterus as your baby should be no harm done.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/04/2018 09:24

Im sorry but this happened to me when I had my miscarriage at 19 weeks. I don't think blood clots are a good sign. Hopefully you'll get a scan quickly so at least you'll know

Caramina · 10/04/2018 09:25

Thank you @ChilliMum - I feel like I'm causing such a drama and am at the doctors all the time with morning sickness and bleeding relate issues. I should put myself first but the constant push by my doctors not to make on the day appointments unless it is an emergency makes me anxious. I just can't handle another miscarriage. Going to call EPAU now but fairly sure they need a referral from my GP.

Thanks for your kind words.

I also passed big blood clots at about 7 weeks, went to A and E who told me most likely thing was miscarriage, sent to early preg unit to find that I was still pregnant and just had a buildup of blood in my uterus that was gradually releasing. Baby was absolutely fine. Hopefully you'll get a nice quick referral so you can get a scan to find out for sure. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 09:30

@IsabelleSE19 thank you. So glad it all worked out ok for you. Fingers toes and everything crossed. Not feeling good about this...

Fingers crossed here for you OP

jellycat1 · 10/04/2018 09:38

Oh darling sorry you're going through this. Try not to worry until you know what's going on and STOP giving a shit about being a pain to the professionals. It's really important to push for what you need if anyone is not taking you seriously.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 09:39

Spoken to EPAU. I was discharged before so they can't make an appointment so going to see my GP today at 11.20. Hopefully they can fit me in at EPAU in the next couple of days. Told me not even to lift a full kettle. Very scared...

@Caramina I hope it all goes well for you Hun. To be honest in that situation I would have just walked into a&e and got them to refer me to EPAU, it would have been done all same day.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 09:45

@Maedoula thing is my gp appointment is at 11:20. DSD is here and has chicken pox so I can't take her to a&e. Bit stuck until DP is back at 11. Otherwise I would've gone to a&e at 3 this morning!

I hope they can get you seen to and it’s good news.

CrispyCrackers · 10/04/2018 09:59

Sorry to hear this OP. Good luck 🤞🏻

Caramina · 10/04/2018 10:12

Thank you both. My guess is that they won't get me in today but hopeful I won't have to wait too much longer. So, so envious that people have such straightforward pregnancies. Brilliant for them but I'd love to know what that feels like...

On way to doctors now. Praying everything is ok. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed for you. I hope you can get an appt today for a scan at EPU. It’s horrible isn’t it. I had bleeding for the first 15weeks of my pregnancy last year. I was anxious so much of the time.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 10/04/2018 11:18

Good luck op, don't ever feel like a time waster where pregnancy is concerned.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 11:21

Thanks both. I already had a scan at 6+3. I don't understand why people get early scans for reassurance. It doesn't reassure me! I think once you've had miscarriages it changes the whole pregnancy experience. It becomes a terrifying ordeal rather than a joyous one. Scared beyond belief.

OP posts:
CuppaSarah · 10/04/2018 11:28

Good luck with everything. Please don't feel for a second you're bothering drs going there. You need to be seen and it's ok to go as often as you need. You're pregnant, it's expected you'll be seen a little more regularly for the moment. Don't ever feel worried about speaking up when something isn't right.

Really hope you get your epau referral and get scanned quickly.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 11:29

Thanks a lot @CuppaSarah - waiting at the docs now. I'm a weepy mess. Babies everywhere! Praying for a miracle.

Yes don’t ever feel guilty. Everything crossed for you.
