Brown blood and just passed a clot at 12 weeks....(picture) terrified

Hi everyone.

I've posted in here already but there's been a development that I'm not sure I should be scared or reassured by...

If you haven't read my previous post, I am 11+6 with my first child. I stood up from the sofa yesterday evening and felt a 'gush'. Checked down below and was horrified to find bright red blood! Sad I called my local maternity unit and have a scan booked for tomorrow morning.

The actual red bleeding only lasted around twenty minutes and, aside from the initial 'gush', was minimal and nowhere near enough to fill a pad. No pain, and still feeling nauseous with sore boobs.

I had no more bleeding overnight and throughout today have only had slight brown spotting when wiping. Nothing otherwise, and still no pain. However, just now I went to the loo and wiped to find that I'd passed a clot. It's very dark (almost black). I've attached a picture.

TMI, but due to iron tablets I've been quite constipated so was straining quite hard before I wiped. First wipe I was greeted by a fair bit of brown blood, and then second wipe was greeted by the aforementioned clot. If you compare it to my thumb it isn't very big, but I'm still terrified!

I'm still not in any pain, and once the clot had passed the brown blood stopped. Subsequent wipes were clean.

I dunno wether to be freaking out or not. I'm so scared Sad

I'd be very scared too. I've heard straining can cause bleeding though. You're best trying not to read too much and waiting for your scan tomorrow (easier said than done, I know!)

Bless you, I read your post from yesterday and have to confess I didn't reply as you'd received a lot already but just wanted to add in light of this that at 6 weeks I had red bleeding and also then brown bleeding and passed a black clot... all with no pain. I had a scan at EPU which showed baby's heartbeat and that baby is now 5.5 months old and sat screaming in my lap. 🙈 Really have fingers crossed for you for tomorrow but wanted to tell you at least one positive similar experience is out there. The midwife at the EPU told me that in the first trimester whilst bleeding isn't normal, it's common. Will be thinking of you tomorrow, as others have said try to distract yourself (even though I know this is hard). Xx

OP I know it's hard not to panic but I had this at 11 weeks and was convinced I was miscarrying, but when I went for a scan the baby was perfectly fine. My mum said that she had the same when she was around 11 weeks pregnant with me too. Apparently because there's a lot more blood in that area during pregnancy it's no uncommon to bleed, especially if something has caused even more blood to rush to that area, such as having sex. I'm now 25 weeks pregnant and my healthy little girl is kicking away making her presence very much known. I really hope it all goes well for you tomorrow xx

3littlebadgers · 09/04/2018 19:34

Op I had this too with my now 2yo. I too was terrified. The clot could be just a little blood that had dried inside you and straining dislodged it.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

surreygirl1987 · 09/04/2018 21:54

Just want to say best of luck tomorrow with scan x

BrutusMcDogface · 09/04/2018 21:56

Ah op, hope it's nothing and hope all goes well at the scan. I would tentatively say that as you've had no pain, it should be ok....fingers crossed 🌺

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the kind and helpful comments.

I'm feeling a bit more (cautiously) hopeful this morning. No pain or bleeding during the night (I was just waiting for the cramps to start), and even the brown blood when wiping has stopped as well. Of course I'm still terrified, but trying to stay hopeful Flowers

Good luck @CobaltRose Flowers thinking of you xo

ineedamoreadultieradult · 10/04/2018 09:05

Good luck today. I don't think that clot is anything to worry about, probably just the end of the recent bleeding.

justtowarm · 10/04/2018 09:14

Good luck today @CobaltRose I had the same thing the day before yesterday. When I went to the hospital appointment yesterday they were able to find a healthy heartbeat with the Doppler and as bleeding was nearly stopped they didn't scan as all seemed well. They just said to rest until the bleeding completely stops, and go back if it gets worst. Thinking of you it was horrible waiting to hear the heartbeat, I was convinced that was it (I'm 13 and a half weeks and had a good 12 week scan but it doesn't stop you worrying)

snowbake · 10/04/2018 09:59

Hope all goes well for you today x

CobaltRose · 10/04/2018 14:16

Had scan today... unfortunately it wasn't good news.

I'm having a miscarriage Sad Baby stopped developing several weeks ago, but I've only started to pass it now, so they're calling it a missed miscarriage. I still feel pregnant Sad Devastated but more numb than anything. I've cried a few times but I feel like I should be more upset than I am. I dunno. I'm just numb Sad

Gotta go in tomorrow for a D&C. Fiancé is obviously devastated too but is being a huge support, as is my mum.

What a shitty and exhausting day Sad
