Twins??? Tell tale signs???

Just curious really...

Those who are carrying twins, did you guess before your scan?

We're there any tell tale signs that made you guess?

Or symptoms that after finding out made sense?

My twins are 5 now. I didn’t notice anything at the time but looking back, there might have been signs!

I was ok until 8 weeks and then the most awful, AWFUL tiredness hit me like a bus. No where near as bad as the usual early pregnancy tiredness I experienced with my first child. I was sick/nauseous but no more so than with my Singleton.

The biggest giveaway was that I could feel the top of my uterus by about 10 weeks. I didn’t really think much of it until I had my scan at 12 weeks!

Thistles24 · 05/04/2018 19:37

I know so many people who have suspected (myself included!) twins from awful sickness/tiredness/showing early, but only one actually had twins. All the others that I know, it came as a total shock to them!

EL332 · 05/04/2018 19:41

It's so interesting!

I have an 8 week scan booked for next week and I was just looking at what I'll be able to see and how developed the baby is and I suddenly started to think about how I'd feel if I saw two babies! 🙂

Do you have a reason to believe you’re having having twins?

I was very nauseous and totally exhausted from early on in my twin pregnancy but I thought that was because I had a 10 month old to take care of.

Good luck with your scan.

hereyougosuckmyassforensics · 05/04/2018 19:46

I had a really early positive test and got strong symptoms such as sensitive to smells and queasiness only a few weeks after my positive test. I also got very bad morning sickness.

TheEagle · 05/04/2018 19:46

I was totally and utterly floored when my 12 week ultrasound showed two babies .

Pennywhistle · 05/04/2018 19:47

I had a scan at 7 weeks so not time for any significant signs but I was incredibly sick for the whole pregnancy.

I also had to move into maternity clothes at 13 weeks.

I was seriously big by the end, the kind of unbelievably big that makes every stranger you pass just stare. Grin

I'm just coming up for seven weeks but have been extremely tired and bloated, queasy and also feel like I have the nose if a bloodhound - these symptoms all started early and I had early strong positives - I have a scan booked for next Saturday so will find out then - just have an inkling I might be expecting twins...

I got a 3+ on a Clearblue test when it should have said 1-2. The penny didn't drop but we saw two heartbeats at a 5 week scan! (I think a few people may have worked it out when I posted a pic of my tests on a forum though!). : )

MrsG95 · 05/04/2018 20:54

The sickness, tiredness, etc, was just absolutely awful. Had early scan due to bleeding, where we found out I was carrying twins. Unfortunately lost one at 11 weeks

EL332 · 05/04/2018 20:56

I'm sorry @MrsG95 ❤️

I was violently uncontrollably sick from eight weeks pregnant. Also had very high levels of hormone on my pregnancy test (I had ivf so the test was a blood test rather than the usual dip stick. The nurse who did the test told my DH to prepare for twins as it was such a high result.)

PrettyWisdomous · 05/04/2018 21:01

Shamelessly place marking to find out if you're doubly upduffed, op Grin

BuffyFan · 05/04/2018 21:11

I didn't guess, but perhaps should have done, as I truly felt twice as pregnant as with my first. I was exhausted, my boobs were incredibly sensitive, and I was seriously eating for three. Like, I'd have breakfast before leaving for work, second breakfast when I got in at 9, I'd had have my lunch by 11 and then be up for a second lunch at 1.

I just put it down to every pregnancy being different. Didn't find out until the 12 week scan when the first thing we saw was two heads.

How would you feel if it were twins, op?

neversleepagain · 05/04/2018 21:11

I had no idea at all and was shocked at my 13 week scan. With hindsight, yes.

I had a bfp at 8dpo.
I felt exhaustion like never before from week 3. I slept 6pm-7am for weeks.
I had bleeding gums before my bfp (this made me suspect I was pregnant). Double the hormones can cause bleeding gums. My gums have always been healthy.
I could feel my fundal height predominately from week 8.
Awful nausea and I vomited everyday from week 6 until the day I gave birth.

I thought this is what pregnancy was like for everyone. My twins are 5.5 now.

EL332 · 05/04/2018 23:29

Blimey it's a lot to think about!

To be honest I have no idea how I'd feel, a mixture of shock excitement and fear probably!

My twins are 4 now. I had awful morning sickness to the point that all I could eat were apples, no idea why apples, but it had to be apples!!
The fatigue was horrendous as well, I didn’t have any strength in my arms and leg.
Finally this was my second pregnancy and I was already showing a bit of a bump before my 12 week scan. When I say a bit of a bump, what I really mean is I did look pregnant.
I had a thought that it might be twins, but none run in our family and the midwife basically dismissed me when I brought it up saying that I was naturally going to be bigger after having had a pregnancy before.
The 12 week scan was a bit of a surprise Grin

willisurvive3under2 · 06/04/2018 00:15

I had awful sickness from 6 weeks onwards. Vomiting 10+ times a day. Having just been pregnant with a singleton quite recently, I wondered what the hell was going on and I joked to my DH that I might be baking two as I was so sick. The midwife also said the same at my booking appointment. We had a private NIPT scan at 10 weeks and there were two babies Confused

PinkAvocado · 06/04/2018 00:21

My first pregnancy I had no symptoms really and it started as a twin pregnancy (although I miscarried one in the first trimester). Second pregnancy was a single baby but I had massively high HCG levels (even higher than average for a twin pregnancy) on a blood test and more morning sickness than before.

Bez9087 · 06/04/2018 05:25

I had an inkling it was twins. I found out on cycle day 24 I was pregnant, wasn’t sick but never felt so nauseous in my life. Was really tired. Kept dreaming of twins kept saying to dh what if it’s twins. Also was showing really early by 8 weeks I looked like I had a mini bump etc we kept putting it down to bloating, the fact it was my third pregnancy and I had two older kids to look after.
Went in for an early scan at 8 weeks for reassurance and there was two babies with two heartbeats flickering away. Those gorgeous little dots on the screen are now 14 days old today.
So I think it can go off mother’s intuition. Will be interesting to see how you get on.

Handsupbabyhandsup · 06/04/2018 07:24

No idea here until my first scan. Morning sickness was better with the twins than my first. Although I could feel the top of my uterus early - I just thought I was mistaken with what I was feeling.

ClareB83 · 06/04/2018 07:38

I had no idea until a scan at 9 weeks.

I'd had symptoms but didn't think they were extreme enough for twins eg I never threw up.

At 32 weeks it's pretty obvious to strangers as I am huge.

Turtlesone · 06/04/2018 07:43

I’d had a weird feeling it might be twins but dismissed it. Was extremely tired and had awful migraine type headaches but as first pregnancy thought it was all normal, so did come as a bit of a shock st the 12 week scan!

xLeanne128 · 06/04/2018 10:01

Also marking my place for the outcome haha x

namechangedtoday15 · 06/04/2018 10:13

No idea as it was my first pregnancy but looking back I was having Day 21 hormone tests to check I was ovulating. Had had 6 months of less than 30, then the month I got pregnant it was 75!

Had a bleed at 5+4 (which I believe is quite common with 1st pregnancy twins) and an early scan at 5+6 to see if I'd miscarriage & was gobsmacked when they said it was twins.
