Am I too young??

Hi all,

I’m 22 years old and I really want to start a family. I’ve been with my other half for 3 years, we are in a stable relationship and we both have good jobs. I’ve been feeling the need to start a family for a few months now but I only discussed this with my parter this week (he is 26). We definitely want to start a family and he is also keen to start trying at some point this year.

This may sound ridiculous but I’m worried other people think we are too young. To be honest, I don’t feel we are too young as years ago it would be normal to have a family at our age, it just seems our current society has made it a big issue in the past decade.

Would appreciate advice or peoples own experiences in having children in their early 20s xx

I don't personally get the 'more energy' comments. I'm 37 and don't feel I have any less energy than when I was 22! And I certainly have a hell of a lot more money Wink

I'm late to this thread. Op go for it ! At 22 you will be used to the sleepless nights as you are so close to your clubbing days ! Haha only joking . But I wish I had started younger then I would have had more than one. I'm getting too old now and broody for another !
Praise be - haha are you for real. You do know that young people can (tragically) die too don't you ?
I was 38 when I had my son, please don't feel sorry for him , he doesn't need sympathy

I'm 22 and I had my first baby 2 weeks ago. Having her is the best thing that's ever happened to me and definitely the best decision I ever made!

I agree with Bertie's absolutely fantastic post. At 22 I thought I was with the man I'd spend the rest of my life with, and so did quite a few of my friends. By 25 none of those relationships were still going. Obviously there are exceptions, but the chances that the guy you started going out with when you were 19 will still be the one for you when you're 30 are pretty low.
