Heartburn in pregnancy - does it really mean a hairy baby?

I’ve heard that really bad heartburn in pregnancy means that one could be having a hairy baby. Is it true? Comment below if you’ve had it and whether the baby was born hairy or not...Thanks

What do you mean hairy? Dd had hair on her head and was quite fluffy all over, not like a gorilla though!

I didn't have any heartburn.

TittyGolightly · 16/03/2018 21:58

I had horrendous heartburn - I glugged peptac right out of the bottle for at least 6 months.

DD was pretty hairy when she was born - her lower back, head and even the tops of her ears. She soon lost the back and ear hair though. She has amazing hair now too - loads of it.

Yes absolutely! not really, what a stupid thread

Onedaylikethi5 · 16/03/2018 21:58

No, I had appalling heartburn and my child is only just getting some hair aged 17 months. Utter codswallop.

MsJolly · 16/03/2018 21:59

I had shocking heartburn with all three of mine and all came out with a massive mop of hair so who knows?!!!

StorminaBcup · 16/03/2018 22:01

No! I had horrific heartburn with ds1 and he was bad until he was 2!

StorminaBcup · 16/03/2018 22:01

*bald Grin

Heartburn from hell and DS was born with a full mop of (adorable) hair. I was gutted when it fell out Sad.

Eporeci · 16/03/2018 22:03

Hi, yes I meant a head full of hair as opposed to a hairy little monkey :) Thanks for your reply x

No heartburn at all in three pregnancies.

Two babies with lots of hair.

One baby with none.

GummyGoddess · 16/03/2018 22:05

I had horrible heartburn with DC1, he had a fair amount of hair and now has lots of curls at 17 months. I have worse heartburn with this baby so he better have hair to make it somewhat worth it!

Jasquers · 16/03/2018 22:06

Nope. Horrendous heartburn in both pregnancies and 2 bald babies 😉

MissClarke86 · 16/03/2018 22:07

It’s codswallop.

Hair on a babies head, inside a sac -and then inside a uterus, can have no impact whatsoever on your stomach or oesophagus! Google the science behind heartburn in pregancy.

WhiteRabbitWhiteRabbit · 16/03/2018 22:11

No heartburn and ds had an amazing amount of hair.

GimbleInTheWabe · 16/03/2018 22:11

Oh I had awful heartburn but DS is still pretty bald at 5 months! I think that's definitely an old wives tale.

AhNowTed · 16/03/2018 22:15

No of course it doesn't mean that

OutComeTheWolves · 16/03/2018 22:15

I've had awful heartburn with all of mine. Two were hairy and two weren't!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 16/03/2018 22:19

Haha, heartburnmeans,weak esophagus/stomach

I had it, and no hairy babies Grin

Baby2018 · 16/03/2018 22:40

No it happens because of a couple of reasons

  1. youre producing muscle relaxing hormones that are non descriminate, helps make room for baby but it also causes the little valve at the top of your stomach to get all relaxed because thats a muscle which means it doesn't always work properly and acid can rise up through it

  2. when your baby is bigger it pushes on your stomach which sometimes forces the acid / stomach contents to rise and bingo you get heartburn

Gaviscon is totally safe for pregnancy and I hear lots of women drink it straight from the bottle!

weasledee · 16/03/2018 22:54

Terrible heartburn and both born with full on hair do's :)

mamahanji · 16/03/2018 22:56

Horrible burning from the inside heartburn both pregnancies. The only thing that marginally helped was gavsicon and I went through one of the massive bottles that cos £8 every 5 days

Both kids born with lovely thick hair on their head and the first one also has a hairy back still at 3 😂

TheVanguardSix · 16/03/2018 22:59

Oh I never knew this.
Ridiculous heartburn with all three. They were all born with big, gorgeous mops of thick, black hair.

Pinkbedsheets · 16/03/2018 22:59

Nope. Had terrible heartburn, would wake up and drink gaviscon from the bottle and my daughter was born bald.

BuildMeUpDandelion · 16/03/2018 23:04

Massive heartburn. Baby like a tiny hairy monkey. Anecdata of one tells you nothing. Except that my tiny hairy monkey was adorable Grin.

FranticallyPeaceful · 16/03/2018 23:33

First baby had hair on his head and even a hairy back! (Which fell away about a week after birth, or less) and no heartburn. Second was almost hairless and heartburn radiated me.

So no, it doesn’t mean that
