I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sorry I've been quiet of late. Last week of pregnancy has been a kicker! Hello to all the new members. Sorry you're joining us but also glad you found us!
Today I reached the pink castle. My gorgeous wee boy made his big entrance. My preeclampsia came back and my elcs was delayed by a couple of hours, while they got that under control. We were incredibly lucky. Ds was born with the cord round his neck and he has fluid in his lungs but is doing well in NICU. I'm still being sick but no where near as bad as when pregnant. Meet the cause of all the trouble.

Congratulations seize! He doesn't look like any trouble to me Smile

songbirdnumber1 · 10/05/2018 08:08

Hi all I'm out of hospital now been given odansetron to take alongside the cyclizine. I have a pounding headache but otherwise feeling much better for the fluids. Am in work later today so will see how that goes eeek!

YourHandInMyHand · 10/05/2018 11:45

Ah I've found my people. Smile

Got a BFP a few days ago and I'm cacking my pants purely from a hyperemesis point of view as I've had it in two previous pregnancies.

One early termination, teen pregnancy and very ill and jaundiced, one full term healthy baby despite me being a frequent hospital guest, who is now 13!!!

My mum had 4 HG pregnancies and my nana had 3. So if this pregnancy doesn't feature HG I'll be sooooo shocked. I'm kind of just resolved to it happening tbh.

At the moment I don't feel pregnant. Calculator is putting me at about 5 weeks. DP convinced me to take a test as period was late and he was insistent my boobs had grown ha ha.

What week did everyone's sickness kick in?? I can't remember with my previous pregnancies.

06DECEMBER2018 · 10/05/2018 13:00

ive just got back from my scan thought i was ten weeks - infact im 8 week 4 days. days are totally off.. anyhow asked how i was was honest told them i felt like a bag of crap and that i was still being sick. tested my water turned out i had a infection. still dont know if this is why im light headed i did bring that up, anyhow had to get some antibiotics fource myself to walk out the hospital and back home, soon as i got home straight into bed because i felt like i couldent keep on my feet. im hoping it is the water infection making me feel light headed otherwise im not sure whats the cause as im downing fluid and eating lollipops.. 😑 currently sat in bed nearly in tears writing this hopefully it will pass soon x

Boredoftryingusernames · 10/05/2018 13:17

Congratulations Seize, he's gorgeous, really pleased he's doing ok despite what sounds like a scary start!

Songbird glad you feel better, is there no way of having tine off work though? Tiredness seems to be the main culprit for making symptoms worse. Good luck if you do make it in though!

December I felt really light headed and dizzy with my HG and like I couldn't put one step in front of the other....I hope the antibiotics help, but unfortunately it may be the HG causing it, along with a lack of food. Glad the scan went ok, sorry you are not as far along as you thought though in terms of your HG symptoms easing off. One of the meds I was on also made me feel really tired and spaced out - the antihistamines can do that so not sure if you are on one of those along with the ondansetron. Unfortunately I found the only thing that really helped was lying in bed. I hope you feel a bit better soon.

bitzy12 · 10/05/2018 13:24

@06DECEMBER2018 your story is so similar to mine. I went for one of my early scans and it was only a routine test, they found my water infection. If you cannot keep your antibiotics down, please get yourself straight down to the hospital. It doesn't matter how often you are being sick, they will hopefully administer your antibiotics through a drip. I couldn't keep mine down and my infection lasted weeks and weeks because I just couldn't finish the course. Various times I ended up in hospital either due to sickness or the infection. I realised that I felt so much worse with hg and the infection combined.

Try look after yourself as best as you can, everyday is another day done and dusted x

LucindaE · 10/05/2018 15:03

Seize What a lovely baby! Sorry he has to have treatment. I hope you can be together asap. You have at last walked over the drawbridge of the Pink Castle Flowers Star [grin}. Hope you are feeling OK, despite inevitable worry. Thank you so much for keeping us informed.
Yourhandinmyhand Welcome. Sorry you are in dread, and you've had some very bad pregnancies. As you are a veteran, you don't need my 'Have you got kesostix? Do you find the juice of tinned fruit, flat full sugar coke and ice lollies helpful? And 'Do ask for meds asap as pre-emptive treatment can help lessen the severity' spiel. Everyone is very helpful here.
Songbird I am so glad you are home and feeling a bit better. I don't think it was you who said you'd been on Ondansetron before, so do get something to help with the constipation, such as lactulose, or the jelly suppositories from Boots - but have to send a non pregnant person to buy them as they won't sell them to pregnant women, though they use them in maternity wards. Did they say the headache was hormonal as it is surely not dehydration?
Bored and everyone: great advice.
Apologies if I've missed anyone.

YourHand First pregnancy, the HG kicked in at about 8/9 weeks. This pregnancy, 7 weeks. Sorry!

LucindaE · 10/05/2018 15:06

DECEMBER Sorry I missed that post! Urinary infections are grim. I hope if it is treated, it might help. It is dismal to be less far along than you hoped. Things will get better. Are you on NETFLIX or some such to distract you, while you have to lie in bed, if you can't face the printed word?
Songbird I too am disturbed you are dragging yourself into work. Is
it impossible to be off for a bit?
bitzy and bored great advice.Smile

TwoDrifters Cross posted. How are things going?

OP posts:
Hotchocolate86 · 10/05/2018 16:21

Congratulations seize. He’s lovely.
December I’m sorry you have a water infection on top of everything. Hopefully the antibiotics will start to work soon and you will feel at least a bit better.
yourhandinmyhand with this pregnancy I started to vomit at 5.5 weeks. I felt sick for a week before.
I have had a rough couple of days. I came off my steroids and spent all day yesterday dry heaving and retching. I managed not to be sick but it was hard. I have gone back on one dose a day to keep me going until the appointment after my scan in a couple of weeks. I’m gutted I felt so ill as I am almost 19 weeks now. Still feel very rough today but thankfully I haven’t had the dry heaving yet.

LucindaE · 10/05/2018 21:54

Hotchocolate Oh dear, poor you. I may be being a muddle head here, but the last I remember about your treatment, the consultant accepted you needed them. Have they urged you to try and go without them again? It is very discouraging to feel so bad at 20 weeks. That is, on top of everything else, often a time of hormonal surges.

OP posts:
TwoDrifters · 10/05/2018 21:56

Lucinda Well I’m over 10 weeks now so 25% done! That’s what I keep chanting to myself, anyway Smile

Having a bad day today sickness wise but my little boy is being so sweet and helpful that I’m managing. And my DH is off now for a few days so I’ll have some help, thankfully.

How are things with you?

Hotchocolate86 · 10/05/2018 22:17

Lucinda I haven’t been given any instructions to come off them. The consultant gave me directions on how to take them for 3 weeks but also told me I could increase them if necessary. I tried to come off them just because I have been on them for nearly 7 weeks and was hopeful I might have improved enough by now. I’m not quite sure if you are allowed to be on steroids long term but at least I can tell the consultant I tried to come off them and got quite ill. In the meantime I think I might as well continue taking the ones I do have as I am only taking a low dose anyway.

LucindaE · 11/05/2018 19:44

Hotchocolate Sorry it's a bad day. It was brave of you to try. Indeed, 'This Too Will Pass'.

TwoDrifters How sweet that LO is trying to help. Try and get some rest.

Thanks lucinda. I’m sure it will. Thinking positively I’m almost halfway through now.

Foodylicious · 12/05/2018 08:03

Yes Hotchocolate86 I'm just 19 weeks now!
Feels good (even if I have been sick first thing a bit again)
Had a big panic last night when I realised I had forgotten to get some more Promethazine and had run out!

Thankfully I remembered about a near empty strip in a bag from going away a few weeks ago.
Would totally have ruined my weekend (and me)

Hotchocolate86 · 12/05/2018 08:55

Oh it’s horrible when that happens foodylicious. I remember thinking I’d run out of ondansetron a few times in my last pregnancy and panicking every time. It hasn’t happened yet this time. I’m glad you are feeling a bit better.

Foodylicious · 12/05/2018 13:52

Just had woman speak to me like shit when I tried to but Promethazine I've the counter in boots.
She seemed to relish telling me that they had taken the decision to stop selling it due to high levels of abuse, then when she clocked the pregnacare vitamins I was holding (and then noticed bump I think) went on a bit if a rant about how she certainly wouldn't be selling it to me anyway as I was pregnant.
I explained fair enough, but thought I would point out that that was why I was taking it
She just went on and on about licencing laws etc.

I know she is not 'wrong' but her attitude, the way she spoke and looked at me was just awful.

It's really pissed me off
If I hadn't had LO with me I would have asked to speak to her superior.

06DECEMBER2018 · 12/05/2018 17:26

hi again everyone..

well what a couple off days.. ive had to hand my notice in at my job ( please dont judge it has become unbareable for me to look after people if i cant look after myself while im like this) so its been a stressful couple off days.. my other half has been amazing about it and said he would try to support me and baby until its here and so have my family. it just means me not having a proper income but deciding im going back to work after ive had the baby just having 2 months off.. have been throwing up all day today and im really badly constipated too:( its causing me to have a lot off stomach cramps. hoping it will subside soon.. hope everyones well:( xx

LucindaE · 12/05/2018 21:59

Oh dear, people are having a grim time.
Foodylicious I feel angry with the woman at Boots. As you say, she had to follow licensing laws, but there was no need to be officious, and treat you like an idiot who knew nothing about medication and pregnancy. Much sympathy.
DECEMBER Poor you. Of course, nobody will judge you. If your job involved caring for others, it is very very difficult when so ill yourself. Sorry to hear of bad day. I am glad OH is being supportive. Can he get you lactulose for the constitpation, which is he bane of those on Ondansetron? Or those jelly suppositories, as it can be hard to get them from a chemists if pregnant, though they use them in maternity wards:
Hotchoclolate I am so glad you are halfway through!
Apologies to anyone overlooked.

OP posts:
doesthisnamelookgoodonme · 12/05/2018 23:15

@Foodylicious I'm on promethazine, why did they say you couldn't have it? I'm worried now x

Boredoftryingusernames · 12/05/2018 23:47

Does it's fine if prescribed through the Dr when pregnant, but you can buy it over the counter for travel sickness and that says not to take if pregnant so chemists have to abide by that. Virtually no drug is licensed to give in pregnancy so Drs have to use evidence of which is safe from various studies looking back at any side effects when drugs have been used in pregnancy - they are able to over-rule what is said on the data sheet for medicines but pharmacists aren't. Please don't worry about taking it yourself.....

Dec you poor thing, sorry you have had to hand your notice in. Glad your partner is supportive. The constipation from HG + ondansetron is awful, hope you can get something as suggested by Lucinda to help.

Sorry to hear of others suffering, hope everyone improves soon. I am still really nauseous all the time at 23 weeks, worse when tired, but the ondansetron is keeping the actual vomting to a minimum still thankfully.

Boredoftryingusernames · 13/05/2018 06:37

PS Foody I hope you have enough to see you through the weekend Sad
