I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Yes I imagine the tears may have helped my case a bit Blush
Hope everyone has a good day today.

songbirdnumber1 · 08/05/2018 19:42

Hello everyone hopI everyone's coping in the heat. I've had a set back at 11 weeks and not been able to keep anything down for nearly 24 hours I'm so scared of ending up back in the EPAU tomorrow as I have my toddler to look after. I've been feeling ok ish for he last two weeks and only vomited a handful of times now even sips of liquid are coming straight back. So upset and fed up!

nailsathome · 08/05/2018 19:44

Sorry to hear that songbird I hope you feel better soon

LucindaE · 08/05/2018 20:01

Songbird Oh dear. Don't despair, I believe round 10-11 weeks is often the worst time for many. So ice lollies are no good, or ice cubes? It is so distressing for mothers when they have to leave LO's to to admitted.
What meds have they got you on?
Slumber So true. Hope you are OK-ish?
nails How are things?
At least not so hot today. I don't ever remember such hot weather in May, and I am ancient.

currently struggling two hospital admissions and on ondastron 😩😩

songbirdnumber1 · 08/05/2018 20:23

Thanks @nailsathome

@LucindaE I've tried all my usual tricks and nothing stays down I'm on cyclizine which I thought was working but struggled to keep it down the last couple not days. I'm not period about the baby as epau doesn't open until 7am and it will be been over 24 hours since I kept any water down x

Foodylicious · 08/05/2018 21:03

songbirdnumber1 that sounds rubbish and familiar.

Have you any antacids? Ranitidine maybe?
I've recently added that in regularly and it's made such a difference.
I def got worse around 11-12 weeks then again around 14 weeks.

Been much more settled last couple of weeks(18 weeks now), though I am def still in need of the meds.

LucindaE · 08/05/2018 22:49

Songbird Poor you. I'm sure baby will be fine if you get fluids in the morning. Sorry nothing is helping.

DECEMBER Welcome. Really sorry you are so ill. You may well be at the worst stage. Can they add anything to Ondansetron? As others say, an anti acid can help a lot. Also, cyclizine and B6 added to Ondansetron.
Don't despair; most people get an marked improvement sometime between weeks 14 and 20. It is very hard. Take it a day at a time. Are flat full sugar coke, or the juice of tinned fruit, or ice lollies of the slightest use?

OP posts:
LucindaE · 08/05/2018 22:49

Foodylicious Glad the anti acids are helping.

We found out that we are having a baby boy Grin and I just wanted to share my news.

Hope everyone gets better soon!Flowers

bitzy12 · 09/05/2018 09:28

Hi everyone, just wanting some suggestions on what everyone is having for breakfast? I'm really struggling as whatever I have seems to make me feel sick and be sick.

Cereal is a definite no. Not sure if it's the milk or the actually cereal but it doesn't go down well.

I've tried ryvitas but they are also a no.

Fruit is a no. Gives me heartburn (as do the ryvitas)

Thinking maybe yoghurt but no doubt that also will be a no.

I need to eat on a morning. If I don't then I'm sick. But whatever I eat also makes me sick too.

Toast isn't too bad tbh. Only without jam. But just wondered what everyone else is having? That can actually stomach eating at the moment.

I had cereal this morning and now feel absolutely pants.

06DECEMBER2018 · 09/05/2018 12:55

Hi lucinda, ( not sure how to tag) i got given thiamine and folic acid and another tablet i cant remember the namd but ends with meleat. they said that im probbaly at my worst at the moment. ive tried eating small bits, flat coke i have also tried but found it was coming back up when i was being sick, feeling really light headed today and zapped from energy. im 10 weeks tomorrow so im hoping i dont suffer with this through my full pregnancy.. i am drinking a lot off fluid. xx

LucindaE · 09/05/2018 13:42

songbird I suppose you have been admitted for fluids. I hope they help. It seems as if you'll need something stronger than cyclizine. That's the first med they usually try, so there's other one's you may well find better.
bitzy I seem to remember you are on an anti acid? Sorry to hear of reappearing breakfasts. If cornflakes are no good, some swear by Scotch pancakes - at any time of the day. I remember eating soda bread, as the saltiness seemed to help, but it's so hard to get hold of these days; I know all my local supermarkets don't stock it any more. Would slices of melon be better than most fruit, I wonder? A woman I knew in real life swore by a smoothie/milkshake made with fresh strawberries and almond milk, but I don't know if those strawberries wouldn't be too acid?
DECEMBER Sorry flat coke is no good. I wonder what med that is? do ask for stronger meds. If you've been admitted twice, I wonder you haven't been put on them already. Are you in the UK? Some fluids/foods that people have found helpful. The juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, ice cubes, Lucozade, fizzy orange, orange squash, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, lemonade, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe non dairy), orange juice (if not too acid) and Robinson's fruit drinks. Also, for food - roughly so-called - cuppa soup, cheap ice cream, nibbles of chips and crisps, cornflakes, Scotch pancakes, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes and jelly.

Bobbielee and Foodylicious I am so glad things are a bit better.
Bobbielee Congratulations on your boy [smile}. That's a very happy moment, when you find out which the baby is to be.
And - nails Are yours identical, can they tell at this stage? I hope you are all getting along OK?

bitzy bacon sandwiches and McDonald’s breakfasts were the only thing I could keep down for breakfast - I put it down to the grease.

Thank you for your well wishes Lucinda Smile

bitzy12 · 09/05/2018 13:57

@Bobbielee91 oh yeah I'm always fancying a breakfast wrap from McDonald's lol. Any excuse :-) I do sometimes hang on and go get one after the school drop off.

Thanks @LucindaE for those suggestions. Actually never thought of melon :-) I think that might be a good one to try actually as not too strong, I feel I could stomach it.

Also sorry but another question, does anyone know if you can take ranitidine through the day? On my box it says just 1 before bed but this heartburn is becoming my worst enemy along with sickness. I've got gaviscon and rennies but nothing compares to the ranitidine.

Wanttomakemincepies · 09/05/2018 15:11

Bitzy I have potato cakes when I feel bad. I can just nibble on them either with or without butter. I also have tinned peaches or fresh mango.

Boredoftryingusernames · 09/05/2018 15:37

Bitzy I have at various points found croissants and English muffins good for me. Also porridge, but I haven't had a big issue with milk. Would second Lucinda's melon suggestion too.
I was prescribed ranitidine twice daily, I think you may be able to take it 3 times (but not 100%) on that.

songbirdnumber1 · 09/05/2018 16:06

Hi @LucindaE I'm currently on my 3rd bag of iv fluids as my keytones were high. They've given me two different types of anti sickness injections too. Hoping that helps me to keep down my cyclizine and get back to how I was a bit more. X

nailsathome · 09/05/2018 17:08

Bitzy my breakfasts were scotch pancakes when I couldn't stomach anything else. Also mango smoothies but that might not be good for the heartburn

Songbird I'm glad you're getting fluids and meds. Hopefully they'll give you something stronger to take home.

I'm definitely over the worst of the sickness now at 30 weeks although it still rears it's head occasionally. Have now been put on iron as I'm very anaemic- it's just one thing after another! The twins are identical girls. On the final countdown now, I am never doing this again!

Foodylicious · 09/05/2018 17:23

bitzy I have a ranitidine dirstcthing in the morning then again in the evening.
Makes a massive difference

Until this last week or so I had to eat within 2-3 minutes of getting up and was still occasionally sick
Now I've been religiously taking it twice a day I haven't been sick in the morning (or at all in fact) for over a week!.
Been close a couple of times but managed to keep it under control.

I've also managed recently to hold off on breakfast for a little bit and eat much more normal foods/meals.

bitzy12 · 09/05/2018 17:38

Thank you everyone for the replies, I'll take one in the morning and see if that makes a difference. I'm sure I took it like that with my other 2 pregnancies but I can't quite remember.

Scotch pancakes also sound good and I can see how they would also stay down. Actually croissants also...don't know why I never thought of those.

Hope everyone is ok, hugs to those struggling, especially in hospital Thanks

Foodylicious · 09/05/2018 19:44

Yes to scotch pancakes, croissants and brioche too bitzy
Most supermarkets do individually wrapped brioche and croissants. Super soft and great for chucking in your bag!

06DECEMBER2018 · 09/05/2018 20:53

had a sleep before got up feeling worse other half come home at half 8 with flat dr pepper for me, tried sipping that and eating some dry toast and it all came back up off me, took my last anti sickness and thats probably come back up off me in my last throwing up 🤢🤢 i dont feel dehydrated as off yet as ive been drinking lots off fluid, however can see myself being back in hospital for the 3rd time.. im 10 weeks tomorrow and have my first scan just hoping i can get up without being sick and get myself thereEnvy im exhausted physically and being light headed is not helping.. going to have to see how i go on tomorrow if any worse back to the a&e again.. i hate going as i feel like im wasting there time sometimes

bitzy12 · 09/05/2018 21:16

@06DECEMBER2018 when you go for your scan, let them know how you feel and ask to be put somewhere private while waiting. I had lots of scans during my early weeks and every time asked for a cardboard hat incase I needed to be sick and they always put me in a separate room. I was always so nervous for scans, it didn't help with the sickness. Really hope you feel better soon x

LucindaE · 09/05/2018 22:09

DECEMBER You poor thing. Have you any kesostix to check for dehydration, even if you don't feel dehydrated, that light headed feeling is not a good thing. Do you have very scanty dark urine, and blurry vision headache, or non elastic skin? Ten weeks can be the worst stage. Hopefully, things will get a lot better if you can take a day at a time. It is so discouraging if you have to keep going in. Can you ask for stronger meds tomorrow? Good advice from Bitzy
Songbird That is a lot of fluids. I hope you feel a lot better.
Bobbielee Bacon sandwiches, now that is an idea.
Bitzy Good advice for DECEMBER. I am afraid your term 'cardboard hat' did make me laugh, thinking of someone with one on the head. Croissants, that does sound a good idea. For you and Foodylicious it's great that an anti acid has helped you so much. A good one can make such a huge difference.
nails Lovely! Congratulations on your identicial baby girls. I'm happy that you are getting closer to the Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror journey.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
