I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I haven't been on here for months as things got so much better and then mostly cleared up. But I'm now 33 weeks and this is my second consecutive day off sick from work now due to vomiting. I'm terrified I'm having a relapse and it just won't go away again, I keep having flashbacks to when I was so ill for months Sad. I do also have a bit of a fever and diarrhea though so it is possible I just have a virus and not a HG relapse, but then I did sometimes get feverish and have occasional bouts of diarrhea with the HG too so I really don't know. Am telling work it's HG so the absence goes down as pregnancy-related anyhow. But for each day I'm not at work I don't get paid and we live off my (low!) income alone as DH is a student. So that is extra stress too. Sad

LucindaE · 02/05/2018 17:53

Meadowhay Oh dear, that sounds nasty. There are some violent viruses going about, so with luck it may be one of those. If it's a hormonal surge then that is disappointing. Have you any meds you can take left over? Hopefully, it won't stay at this level. Only very rarely are people as ill again later on as they are earlier, so hopefully it's a bug.
DeadDoorPost Lovely to hear from you, and such a lovely baby! Glad the anti depressants helped.
RockinRobin I am so glad that things are a lot better. Definitely, people do find that there is a hormonal surge at about twenty weeks that can be miserable. Poor Bored seems to have had it badly. I do hope it eases for you soon, Bored.
TwoDrifters It is miserable, but I am so glad you are managing. What meds have they got you on?
Foodylicious and Bobbielee and Statistically Those are amazing stories.
Foodylicious I am glad the hernia like bulge isn't serious.
Bobbielee I do hope the omprazole does the trick.
nails I have lost track of what is considered a good sleeping position in pregnancy. The back is considered bad, then? And if the side makes spd worse, obviously sleeping on the front is out of the question.
Apoloiges to anyone rudely overlooked.

Just the usual first tier stuff, Lucinda

Cyclizine and B6

I managed the whole way through on cyclizine last time so hopefully I can again. Although I keep being sick just after having taken it so I’m not sure how many of them are actually staying down and doing their thing!

Wanttomakemincepies · 02/05/2018 21:59

Hi can I jump on please? 8 weeks this week and has really kicked in. Got my stemetel yesterday but still vomiting but not as much. Went home sick yesterday and phoned in for tomorrow. The school run felt like effort this afternoon. I have just stayed curled up on sofa. Everything except skittles has come back. Had HG with DS and it lasted to 22 weeks. There is a reason there is an 8 year age gap.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/05/2018 23:01

Hi Wanttomakemincepies - I am another one with an 8 year age gap, took me this long to forget just how awful it is.

From a fellow second timer, take no crap and make sure you keep pushing for better meds if the stemetil doesn't cut the mustard.

Wanttomakemincepies · 03/05/2018 13:23

Anyone had problems getting ketostix from pharmacies?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/05/2018 13:40

Yup, DH asked for them and was told they are really expensive and not kept in stock, and that if the doctors thought you needed them they'd prescribe!!!

Amazon it is then!

Wanttomakemincepies · 03/05/2018 16:01

Managed to find a pharmacy that had some, sold them with no issues until I get home to find it is protein sticks. Phoned them back and they will swap when husband gets back. Haven't got the energy for another trip now.

LucindaE · 03/05/2018 17:52

Wanttomakemincepies Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. If you were very ill before, as others say, stemetil seems a weakish drug to put you on. As you are a veteran, and in the process of buying kesostix, you don't need my usual spiel about 'have you got kesostix and how do you find flat, full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies etc'. Did you find a anti acid helped a lot before?
On anti acids, bitzy Mother Hen meant to ask, I hope you are on a stronger anti acid besides rennnies, and TwoDrifters did you find last time that one helped besides the cyclizine and B6?
Statistically That is really annoying them taking that attitude. As you have Hyperemesis, who are they to judge if you need them or not? I have heard of pharmacists saying to people on here that they were only for diabetics and so on, and it seems ridiculous. Annoying you have to use Amazon instead.
I find testing ketones puzzling, with the long term starvation aspect kicking in. I did an experiment on my non pregnant self and bought some kesostix (nobody at the chemists queried why). I waited until I had a bad migraine with vomiting every couple of hours - thank goodness, I don't have those very often these days. After eight hours I tested for ketones and they were 3+. As I had eaten the night before, that must have been pure dehydration, but I am puzzled,as some people on here are in that state for days and still don't have such a high reading!

Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Watch me cross post. I must update the Due Dates list!

bitzy12 · 03/05/2018 19:35

@LucindaE Aww thanks for thinking of me :-) yeah I have ranitidine to take also. I just have rennies as extra, tbh I have noticed they can help when I feel slightly nauseated. Not when I'm at the point of being sick but when it's just nausea, I find them quite good. Hope everyone is doing ok x

LucindaE · 03/05/2018 20:44

Glad to hear that, bitzy.

OP posts:
Wanttomakemincepies · 03/05/2018 21:16

LucindaE thanks. Checked ketones and only 2+ have only kept down an ice lolly today. In the process of moving GP as I moved house in Feb and phoned for meds and told me I needed to find new GP. Could do with ondansatron but not sure new GP will give. I need something though.

Wanttomakemincepies · 04/05/2018 13:04

So, I phoned my GP this morning to change my meds and I have ended up at EPU waiting fluids and IV antiemetic. Not how I wanted to spend my Friday.

Hotchocolate86 · 04/05/2018 21:29

How are you now wanttomakemincepies?
I really struggled at work today. I am trying to do my full hours but I had to come home an hour and a half early and it was a struggle to manage that long. I feel very queasy and exhausted.

LucindaE · 04/05/2018 22:41

Wanttomakemincepies Really sorry you have had to be admitted, but hopefully you are now feeling a lot better for the meds. Obviously, you needed them.
Hotchocolate Sorry to hear that. You were sensible to come home and rest.

OP posts:
Wanttomakemincepies · 05/05/2018 16:15

Hi. I am home now and I feel loads better. Had food and drink stay put. They said if I need to go back then it would just be in EPU and not another admission overnight. Got my ondansatron to take home. Just hope my new GP will continue the prescription when this one runs out. I also have a sick note for work which I didn't even ask for.

Wanttomakemincepies · 05/05/2018 16:16

It is refreshing when HG is taken seriously.

LucindaE · 05/05/2018 18:04

Wanttomakemincepies I am so glad to hear that, and that you've got Ondansetron and can go to the EPU. Now, that's what I call service!
Did they give you lactulose or whatever for the wearisome locked up bowels that unfortunately go with it? You can get jelly suppositories from a chemists, but annoyingly, they won't sell them to a pregnant woman, though they use them in maternity units.

Wanttomakemincepies · 05/05/2018 18:59

LucindaE no laxatives but that has never been an issue, even last time. Why can't our bodies just do the physiological norm?

Slumberparty · 06/05/2018 12:29

Hi, I've only posted a couple of times but have been lurking. I finally went to see a doctor after a particularly bad few days. I sat down and she asked me how I was and I just burst into tears Blush Very embarrassing!! But anyway she was so sympathetic and had no hesitation to prescribe me dicletin. I'm in Hong Kong and I don't think you can get it in UK. Here it's imported from US. Since the first tablet I took on Friday I have not been sick once. It's been life changing and I just wish I'd gone to the doc sooner! Only downside is it makes me a bit sleepy but that's definitely better than sicky.

LucindaE · 06/05/2018 14:41

Slumberparty Great news. I am happy for you.
Iwanttomakeminceies That's good anyway!

Hi, I haven't posted for ages. I had a few weeks of feeling really good and then a nauseous week last week. I'm 26 weeks now - I think things really turned a corner at 23 weeks. Still taking doxylamine/B6 - @slumberparty it's the same ingredients as those in diclectin. It is quite amazing the difference it makes. When I first visited the dr I burst into tears too! It's a very emotional thing to have your life so disrupted by vomiting!
I still have underlying nausea and food aversions but am so much better than I was in the first 20 weeks. Even though I only have 3 months to go it still feels like a long time....
I see there are lots of women due this month! Good luck and best wishes to all of you

LucindaE · 07/05/2018 10:10

Ohiwa I am so glad that things are so much better for you, overall (with relapses). Things do get a lot better for most people after the first terrible bit - it's very hard for those who suffer throughout, but even with them things are almost never so bad as in the first bit.
Thanks for coming on to encourage people.
I don't usually follow other threads - but for some reason, I did look at an AIBU thread, and there was a man on it layng down the law about a female friendship, and how someone 'should' feel about being let down by a friend'. It made me good and mad. I am so out of touch with the rest of Mumsnet, that I didn't realise that males did this. I am so glad that while males in real life may from time to time tell sufferers on here about how they 'should' feel with Hyperemesis, they have yet to come on here to do it!

OP posts:
LucindaE · 07/05/2018 10:13

Ah,and Slumberparty and others, I think it is probably the best thing not to be too stoic at the GP's as it does seem to help in getting effective treatment, so it's a good thing the pregnancy hormones make one emotional.
