I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Bobbielee I hope you get Ondansetron. Unfortunately, you will need a laxative, too. It's good that Gaviscon helps you; it made me do some sinister pink foam vomits!
Much sympathy for those who are jealous of those who have nice easy pregnnacies; it is so unfair, as teenagers say.

Gennz Much sympathy. It is possible to have Hyperemesis without frequent vomiting, if the nausea is very severe.
Slumberparty I hope the flat coke helps. Everyone on this thread is very helpful.
I hope everyone is coping today.

I guess having issues with pooping will be worth not being sick haha. I was sick so violently at work today - it really hurt Sad.

Calling the doctors first thing in the morning and will try to get an appointment. It is practically impossible at my surgery though, even when pregnant! Confused.

Thank you for all your help so far Smile

Aw12345 · 29/04/2018 19:37

Bobbielee91 completely relate to the pain of vomiting with HG, so painful.

Foody dizziness is horrible, I've had it at work a few times :-( there are many "joys" of pregnancy!!

Hotchocolate86 · 30/04/2018 10:48

foody how are you feeling today? Any better? I’ve had a few dizzy spells. Not as bad as yours but enough to stop you in your tracks. It’s very unpleasant.
I am really tired today after two days of work and it was my daughters birthday party yesterday. I feel very nauseous so I think I’ll have to take it easy today.
I hope everyone is having a good day.

Foodylicious · 30/04/2018 12:06

Lots better today thanks Hotchocolate86
Managed with just the one breakfast I stead of my usual two to stave off the nausea.
Run out of ranitidine though and the rest of the day won't go well if I don't get some soon!
Got yo wait on a few phone calls before I can get to shop

Foodylicious · 30/04/2018 12:07

Hope the party went well and you manage to rest today

Hotchocolate86 · 30/04/2018 12:34

The party went very well thanks foody. I was not really looking forward to it but the children were very well behaved so it was a success. Today we’ve been watching a lot of Twirlywoos so I can get some rest. I’m glad you are feeling better.

nightwispa · 30/04/2018 18:17

Hi ladies, need some advice: I have a friend who's gone through HG in her last pregnancy and is currently experiencing the same with her second. She is very, very poorly but just won't take it easy- constantly planning outings with friends and her little one. I've tried supporting her as best as I can but I don't know what to do when she crashes on some days. She's also not taking her medication as she should be doing. Wwyd?

I've had HG for 4 months in my current pregnancy so understand what she's going through but I don't know what else to do to help her.

bitzy12 · 30/04/2018 19:00

@nightwispa that's a tricky one, not sure what you can do to help. Although tbf, maybe she isn't feeling too bad? I mean, on my bad days of hg, I couldn't even leave my bed, let alone outings and seeing friends. I can't even get my dcs ready and take them to school I haven't seen many of my friends for months now. So maybe her HG works when some days she's fine and she just has the odd day of feeling really crappy? I think most would agree that when hg is severe, it takes over your life where you literally can't get out of bed. If she's managing to go out and see friends then I'd automatically think she wasn't suffering too badly. Had she had any hospital admissions? What are her keytones like? Apologies in advance if I'm wrong there, I'm just going off my own experiences of HG. If she can manage to go out and do stuff whilst vomiting through out the day then hats off to her though, she's made of strong stuff :-)

bitzy12 · 30/04/2018 19:10

Just thought I'd share a nice experience I had yesterday.

Was only sick once - first thing yesterday morning but I brought up a load of green bile (sorry tmi) and that combined with heartburn just left me feeling shi**y for the rest of the day. Nausea was unbearable.

Anyway dh suggested we have a walk to the local garage to get some milk, it's literally like 30 steps away but I wasn't in the mood. He was insistent though as I needed some fresh air apparently....

So off we went with me in a strop sulking along like a teenager...and I was in my pjs....

Picked up the milk and went to pay and realised I could do with some more rennies so asked the guy to get me some from behind the counter.

He asked how far along I was and dh replied 'oh be careful what you say to her, she's not having the greatest day today' in a jokey way

The guy replied 'hypermesis?' And I was like 'omg yesssss'

He went on to tell me how he and his dw have 4 dc and she had hg with her last one. He just looked at me and said 'you just listen to your body, if you need to lie down all day then do it. If you need to cry then cry, I'm so sorry you're going through this, you are amazing though'

Then he looked at my dh and said 'you look after her, she's going through absolute hell' I literally felt like hugging him lol. Dh was just like 'oh I'm trying my best' haha.

Tbf, dh is great but I felt like saying 'hang on, let me just ring everyone else I know so you can tell them that' lol.

I might make this guy my new best friend, I might make the daily 30 step walk to see him for some words of wisdom when it's a bad day. And that did perk me up slightly. I still sulked for the rest of the day but I just thought 'well I'm allowed cos I'm going through hell and also...I am amazing' Wink

LucindaE · 30/04/2018 19:12

nightwispa Welcome. I hope you are getting effective treatment yourself as a sufferer? Your friend probably feels guilty about being laid low, and also about taking meds, particularly as this illness is often so little understood. Would she phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020, who will advise her on the safety of meds? Has she got support from her family too? It's good you can help out.
Foodylicious I am sorry, I missed your post about dizziness. I'm glad you feel better now. Dizziness is, as others say, awful. I hope you are resting.
Hotchocolate I am glad your DD had a good party and they actually behaved - my goodness, those kids parties are exhuasting, though.
No wonder you feel tired. Rest as much as you can.
Bobbielee Did you get an appointment? Lactulose and those suppositories from Boots - annoyingly you have to get a non pregnant person to buy them, although they are used in hospitals.

Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Bitzy what happened in the garage made me smile - what a lovely guy. Hope you have a better day with the nausea today.
Hotchocolate hope the rest yesterday made you feel better, well done for getting through work and a kid's party.
Night agree with Bitzy above really, it's hard, but if the horrors of hyperemesis aren't enough to get her to rest or take her medication properly I'm not sure what you can say to her to change it. Is she ending up in hospital when she crashes? I think like with other conditions people suffer to varying degrees, some people manage to work, others can't get out of bed for weeks/months. Maybe as you have been through it first you could have a chat about medications and make sure she isn't avoiding taking them as she is worried about side effects for the baby - there are plenty of resources to help reassure her as already mentioned by Lucinda. You sound like a lovely friend!

Bobbielee91 · 01/05/2018 08:09

Morning.
Yes, got an appointment today at 11:10 so fingers crossed.

Had a relatively good day yesterday, sick in the morning and then just nauseous all day but not sick Grin.

I’m really hoping that this is the end. Hope everyone else is okay Smile

Hotchocolate86 · 01/05/2018 16:47

How did your appointment go bobbielee?
I do feel a bit better for my rest yesterday thanks bored. I still feel queasy and tired so we have had another day In apart from nipping to the supermarket. Annoyingly I forgot the bread for School lunch tomorrow so DD will have to have hot lunch as I’m not going out again. I’m frustrated that I still feel nauseous at 17 weeks as I really hoped it would have gone by now. Thank goodness it’s much better than it was though and I can now get through the days.
I was just reading a thread about people who don’t know they are pregnant. I don’t think I could even dream of that happening.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/05/2018 17:00

Funnily enough Hotchocolate I read that thread too and just thought "I bloody wish!!"; no chance of not knowing with hyperemesis and SPD kicking around

BobbieLee, hope you managed to get the Ondansetron as they were a bit of a game changer for me. I'm still getting nausea (especially as I've tried to cut down to 2 a day) but it's not even in the same league as it was before I went on it. I was on cyclizine, procloperazine and metaclopramide before and it still didn't stop it.

LucindaE · 01/05/2018 20:55

Bitzy Sorry I missed your post. I am so glad you had that experience. The man in the garage is right; you are amazing. You are all amazing!
Hotchocolate Sorry nausea lingers. I just find it amazing that anyone could be pregnant and not know, even if she was very lucky and didn't have any nausea. The slight change in shape?!! [confused}
Bobbylee As with others, how did it go at the dr's?
StatisticallychallangedGlad you are doing not so badly on Ondansetron.
Waves to Aw and everyone. Foodylicious Did you get reassurance about the suspected hernia?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

LucindaE thanks, MW has referred me for physio but could be ages before I am seen.
It's not a problem unless it becomes a problem if that makes sense?
So just need to keep an eye on it.

Foodylicious · 01/05/2018 21:05

Oh, and one of my colleagues friends only found out recently she was 7 months...
Had been going back and forth to docs feeling unwell, but apparently no one thought to check she might be of Confused
Was apparently still having 'periods'

DeadDoorpost · 01/05/2018 22:44

Hey Lucinda just popping back on to say Christopher is now 5 months and a whopping 20lbs 10+ oz now and had his last jabs today so no more til November. And I'm doing a lot better now. Got my antidepressants, did a 4 week course of them and I'm doing fine. Lack of sleep is my trigger so I try to get as much as I can.

waves to anyone still on here who I remember.

DeadDoorpost · 01/05/2018 22:48

Should have attached a picture... here you go

Bobbielee91 · 02/05/2018 08:17

Hi guys,

The doctor wouldn’t give me any more anti-sickness. She said that the risks outweighed the benefits for me! I have issues with my stomach anyway so she has put me back on omeprazole with the hope that it helps Hmm - I suppose we shall see.

statistically I have a friend who didn’t know she was pregnant for th whole 9 months - she then gave birth on xmas day to a little boy and had nothing ready! I always wish I didn’t know too due to the sickness haha.

On a positive note, I chose my pram yesterday and can barely sleep due to the excitement haha.

Hope everyone is feeling a little better today.

RockinRobinn · 02/05/2018 09:47

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while since my return to work which has been nice and steady thank god.
I'm 20 weeks now and feeling generally better but still having to take my cyclizine but I have managed a few days without it.
Did anyone else notice an increase in their nausea again around week 19/20? It's no where near as bad as it was I'm just wondering if it's just because I'm trying to cut down the meds now it's a bit more manageable or if it's because of another hormone surge. Some of the women on a Facebook group due the same month as me have noted their morning sickness has returned a bit.
And to all of you newbies who I don't recognise I hope you start to feel better soon like Lucinda has said I started to improve about week 15/16 to where I can actually function now! Hopefully you won't have to suffer the whole way through and can start to enjoy the pregnancy.
Also on the chat about being jealous of people, a friend at work is 9 weeks pregnant spoke to her yesterday and she was talked about how she went for a run! A RUN! At 9 weeks pregnant my god. The most energetic thing I could do is heave over the toilet! Even now it's taking me a while to get used to being on my feet for more than half an hour!

nailsathome · 02/05/2018 10:29

I'm glad lots of you are feeling better.

Re: spd, I had my second Physio appointment this morning and it's really useless. He told me today not to sleep in my sides too much as that is making it worse. Erm what position exactly shall I sleep in then??

Boredoftryingusernames · 02/05/2018 10:33

Rockin I have definitely felt worse again from about week 19 (22 weeks now), appetite a little better the last few days, still worse than it was a month ago. Haven't changed my meds so think is a hormonal surge. Pleased you are feeling much better in general!

TwoDrifters · 02/05/2018 11:21

Dead He’s gorgeous! Glad to hear all is going well for you!

Nausea is still fairly awful although managing to keep sickness to 2-3 bouts a day which is better than last time at least.

Still feel like a rubbish mother as the home is distinctly grubby and far too much TV is being watched by my 2-yr-old but hey ho I’ll get better I hope.

9+1 today. Onwards and upwards…
