Started bleeding at 11 weeks....devastated

Hi ladies
Don’t know why I’m posting this but maybe I just need a release...

I was 11 weeks on Monday- a very much wanted and hard fought pregnancy after IVF and 3 years of trying. However, this morning I saw blood when I wiped (sorry) and have been spotting since. Blood initially was red now is more brown.

I’ve had miscarriages before and know exactly what this is, so when my midwife told me that this could be ok, i didn’t want to hear it because i know in my heart that this is it.

I just can’t believe this is happening. We have a scan 2 weeks ago and everything was great but that makes all of this so much worse. I’m heartbroken.

If my fears come true I know i won’t get through it - i barely did the last time i miscarried... I just can’t see this ever getting better.

I guess I’m clutching at straws but anyone else been here?

Ohh you poor thing, I know how hard it all is.
You are not alone, wishing you all the luck in the world I really hope it turns out okay in the end 💐

FrauNeuer back in September I was on holiday and had massive clots that were bright red and then brown spotting. When I got back to the UK it seemed all but confirmed I had miscarried. But I hadn't.

I don't want to give false hope, just giving my story. This was not the only time I bled, but now the bleeding has fully stopped. I was also told about the placenta causing bleeding around that time.
Good luck OP. Hoping for the best x

FrauNeuer · 14/03/2018 19:30

Oh gosh thanks so much everyone, you’re all so lovely. Flowers

The bleeding seems to be slowing down but is still there. I just keep telling myself that with my other miscarriages, it happened in the reverse order - dark blood for a few days then red, so I’m really hoping it’s this placenta thing.

I’m still an absolute wreck at the thought of losing this pregnancy but hearing positive stories has really helped. xxx

I had a huge bleed at 11 weeks, also an ivf pregnancy but he's 4 now and I never got an explanation for the bleeding.
Keeping everything crossed for you. It doesn't always mean bad news.

TheCraicDealer · 14/03/2018 19:42

All my fingers and toes crossed for you Frau BrewThanks

MrsMozart · 14/03/2018 19:48

Everything tightly crossed for you.

PartyintheKitchen · 14/03/2018 20:15

Everything crossed for you Frau. Bleeding can mean something and nothing, I had a stillbirth with no signs anything was wrong, absolutely zero bleeding. The following pregnancy spotted and small amounts of bleeding all the way through which ended in very healthy baby. It's so so hard but try to keep yourself busy Flowers

Aprilmightmemynewname · 14/03/2018 20:18

Fingers crossed for you op.

I bled with my son to the point of haemorrhage. He was fine.
I have everything crossed it's good news for you. X

Thanks again guys for the support. I really appreciate it.

Just a quick question to those who had red then brown bleeding.... how long did it last?

The reason I ask is that I’m still seeing brown blood. It’s not enough to need to wear a pad, but doesn’t seem to have slowed down since this time yesterday.

If it’s a mc, it’s so horribly cruel because I’ve still got all my symptoms- feeling nauseous, tired and still really hungry.

First bleed lasted two weeks and the second about a week I think, maybe a bit longer.

Brown indicates that it’s old blood which has dislodged or worked it’s way through.

ClareB83 · 15/03/2018 13:16

I think the bleed at 9 weeks was bright red (lots) for an hour or so and then brown (not very much) for a couple of days.

Then the 11 week bleed was bright red (lots) for an hour or so and then brown (not very much) for a day. But then every few days for the next few weeks I would get a little bit more.

Cleared up by 16 weeks.

Kirkwood87 · 15/03/2018 13:27

I bled from week 7-10. Had episodes of bright red bleeding that would fill a pad then filter off to red blood just when I wiped, it would then turn to brown blood. Then the cycle would start again and I’d have another fresh bleed. Each cycle would last about a week. Subchorionic hematoma is the cause of this, same as many other posters in this thread, but baby is doing fine and still have all the symptoms too!

muttmad · 15/03/2018 13:54

Mine started on the Tuesday before the queens jubilee, i bled red, continued until i could finally see anybody on the Wednesday after the three bank holidays wrapped around that weekend! I spent the whole 5 days crying, on the Wednesday the midwife sent me for a scan which showed a healthy baby kicking away!
Brown blood is old blood don't forget so the body is expelling older blood, there are all sorts of reasons for bleeding in pregnancy, hopefully tomorrow your scan will give you the good news we are hoping for for you.

LadesC · 15/03/2018 14:08

Ive been bleeding since 9.5wks. No haematoma to see, no infection, cervix looks fine. Im now 18wks and still bleed or spot daily but can feel baby kicking away. Sometimes its red and sometimes brown. So while bleeding can be an indicator of bad news it isnt always.

Baby2018 · 15/03/2018 14:15

I dont have any advice but I didnt want to read and leave it, Can you book in for a private scan to check on things? I know it seems terrible right now but not knowing is worse, it might not be bad news yet Ive got my fingers crossed for you

ladymelbourne1926 · 15/03/2018 14:16

My episodes of bright red bleeding tended to last for weeks. Brown bleeding is old blood in my case that stopped after each episode after a couple of days.
Thinking of you and really hoping for good news tomorrow x

BlytheofWindyWillows · 15/03/2018 14:19

Hi OP, just wanted to add I had a similar experience. Very heavy bleeding on 2 occasions, 9 weeks and 14 weeks. DD2 is now 9 months old. I had 3 miscarriages between DD1 and 2 so I can understand your fear. Keeping everything crossed for you!

whatnamenow2017 · 15/03/2018 14:31

Another one here who had episodes of clots and heavy bleeding, son was 10 this week! I think I bled/spotted for about 3 months..... good luck tomorrow. I remember having the scan after the first heavy bleed and couldn't believe it when his little heartbeat was still there - I hope you experience the same tomorrow.

PieAndPumpkins · 15/03/2018 14:32

Thinking of you Flowers

Juststrugglingabit · 15/03/2018 14:41

More experience here. So sorry this is happening to you, it's really shitty and stressful.

My experience:

First pregnancy, started spotting v early on, got worse and worse as the weeks went on finally turning to gushes at 20 weeks. Very sadly lost that baby at 23.5. Never really knew why, but the bleeding got worse and worse, not the same and definitely not better.

Second pregnancy, v minor spotting early on, but much less (consultant was never concerned, said was v common). Then a massive gush at 11.3 and much more at 12.4 (at least half a litre), with spotting of every colour under the sun until 18/19 weeks when it all just stopped. This was due to a confirmed hematoma. I'm now 26 weeks with an extremely healthy baby and no sign of further trouble, fingers crossed.

The key thing for me seems to have been that the bleeding did not get worse and worse as it did before and they could see the cause. Don't lose heart if they see no cause though, after my second massive bleed you couldn't see the hematoma on scans as it had mainly healed up.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, I know how hard this is.

twobambinos · 15/03/2018 15:16

Goodluck tomorrow frau will have everything crossed for you

Mama05070704 · 15/03/2018 15:26

I had a massive bled the day before I turned 12 weeks. I naturally feared the worse, especially since I miscarried my previous pregnancy - both pregnancies were IVF. I went to A&E and was examined by a doctor on th EPAU who told me on no uncertain terms I was having another MC as my cervix was apparently open. I had to have a scan the following morning to confirm before they would booked me in for a D&C. The scan showed a our baby bouncing around, with a heartbeat 😊 It also showed a subchorionic hematoma. I bled every day for 4 weeks and my body reabsorbed the rest by the time I was 28 weeks. My DS turns 3 in a few months. Don’t give up hope! X

Sarahduckobsessive · 15/03/2018 15:35

Just to add to the positive experiences - during my pregnancy (also a result of IVF) I bled on and off from 6 to 16 weeks. I was so sure I was miscarrying on so many occasions but it was a subchorionic haematoma. My DC is now 6. Fingers crossed for you.
