laura, he’s such a cutie. Glad he’s more alert and feeding better ☺️ Hope the jaundice improves soon!

Pumpkinma, ahh! Another on the way! Best of luck! So so exciting. Don’t panic, you’ve got this 💪🏻

Can it be my turn next?

What are your thoughts of staying closer to home those of you that are over 37 weeks? I’m trying to keep busy so I’m not sat at home watching out for symptoms of labour and some of my plans are good hour’s drive from home on my own.

dkb15164 · 27/03/2018 11:55

Introducing Heather, born at 1:31AM on 27th March weighing in at 5lb 5oz. After my waters turned pinkish yesterday afternoon ended up back at the hospital for observation for a few hours before being induced at 2cm. Gas and air for the first part and then an epidural from the gods for the latter - was really good quality given that midwives were predicting a long long labour and instead when they went to attach an internal monitor were shocked to be facing the baby's head of hair already on its way out. I didn't feel pain but still felt baby coming out and was luckily able to push her out without assistance or even breaking a sweat (going to write the anaesthetist into my will stg). No cuts on perineum luckily (I had been preparing to do the perineum stretches to prevent tearing closer to my due date), gash on labia requiring a few stitches. Daddy was formula feeding within an hour of birth and did second feed too while I got stitched up. Baby got his full head of black hair too. Super happy and content newborn - we'll see if it lasts though.
Catheter is murder though, can't wait to get it out - just a little more than an hour and a half to go. Catheter is more uncomfortable/painful than anything else. Also because with it in I can't wear trousers and can't move about as much as I'd like to without awkwardly dragging a bag of wee behind me. Really want a shower too before visitors arrive at 2.

laura1306 · 27/03/2018 15:12

@dkb15164 congratulations! She is a very beautiful baby and that labour sounds amazing, you should be so proud!

I can't believe all of these babies popping out in MarchThanks

Bez9087 · 27/03/2018 16:52

@laura I was. I did mostly breast in hospital and did either both breast depending on them wanting it or if they kicked off together one had breast and other forumla but the next feed I made sure whoever I breastfed last had a formula feed and the other was breastfed instead. Imogen my twin who didn’t go to special care feeds so much better than isobelle who did but Imogen had initial feed in recovery etc where as isobelle initial breastfeed was expressed in scbu. We have put them on formula from today though as my milk is coming in so didn’t want to confuse the girls by full breast milk and formula as wouldn’t be able to do exclusive breast feeding and the same with my body it wouldn’t know when or how much to make. We had always said forumla feeding them and had bottles and formula in so they got breast longer than we had planned anyway. Not that I minded.
Midwife has been out today and said both girls have jaundice slightly which we knew as the hospital had been monitoring via bloods etc anyway but she agreed with our decision to formula feed them as it will bulk them up and also help regulate feeds and jaundice levels. Plus natural day light through the windows sunbathing for both babies.

emvy · 27/03/2018 18:17

Congratulations, dkb, she is beautiful! What a wonderful full head of hair! It sounds like you did amazingly 👏🏻 Hope you get the catheter out ASAP and can get a bit more comfortable.

Bez, it sounds like feeding is going great with the twins. Formula definitely makes sense.

HarryHarry · 27/03/2018 18:26

@dkb15164 Congratulations, she's lovely, and has so much hair!

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 27/03/2018 20:16

Congratulations @dkb15164 !

strawberrysparkle · 27/03/2018 20:18

Congratulations everyone on the babies! This is making me even more eager to meet our bean! 37.5 weeks so could have over a month left yet!

WonderfullySunny · 28/03/2018 04:22

Congratulations @dkb15164 Heather is gorgeous, I'm really happy to hear the epidural went well and only minor stitches needed definite result!! Do you know when you guys will get to head home with her?

@Bez9087 glad you guys are home and settling in! How have the visitors been so far? Am in awe of you guys juggling so many feeds, are you guys using a tracking app or anything?

@Pumpkinma how are you doing?? Very exciting but yep completely can change your mind, I'm sure the midwife can help you out with that one

@emvy an hour would be doable I reckon. Is it your first DC? Everything I've read seems to indicate it's takes quite a few hours before it's gets painful so should give you enough time to get back. Although maybe keep your hospital bag in the car just in case?

@laura1306 bless Miles! Have they said how long they think he'll have to stay under the light for? Fingers crossed not too much longer.

Im only 36 weeks today and feeling so far behind!! Very exciting though seeing the new arrivals Smile

dkb15164 · 28/03/2018 06:55

Thanks for all the lovely messages guys! Bottle feeding took a bit of a dip in daylight hours so switched to the premature teats and while still struggled for a bit, feel so proud that after an evening of feeds struggling to get her to take even 5ml without nurse's assistance managed to get her to take 32ml at 4:30 feed without any assistance whatsoever. Hopefully I'll get out today, baby has "larger than average" soft spot so after seeing 3 consultants yesterday are going to see another professional today whose coming from children's hospital. As appointment is last minute, means we don't get a time slot just the first opportunity he/she has spare. Said it could be a viral infection causing extra fluid in brain or just abnormal thing that will fix itself or "something more" which is never what a new anxious young mum wants to hear. Sure will be fine, just wish partner was allowed to spend night with me to reassure me. Always thought it was daft having dads sleeping on the labour suite when they could be home getting the house ready and catching up on sleep so they can take over while mum rests when she gets home however realise now I really need DP to calm my horrormones and stop my brain going into overdrive. Here's another picture of my wee Hettie.

@dkb she’s beautiful look at all her hair. Such a beautiful little thing. Bet your on cloud nine?

@wonderfullysunny we don’t, I am just writing it on my notes bit on my phone for my peace of mind. We are going nearly three hours between feeds and if one isn’t quite ready we are waking her. So like the 12:30 feed this morn / last night Imogen couldn’t wait for and literally drained it where as Isobelle wasn’t overly fussed so we woke her for it anyway and she drank just under an oz. mainly because if you don’t you literally are like changing, feeding then winding one then starting the whole process again and get like 30mins / 1 hour before starting it all over again. So best tip we was given off a few twin parents was feed them together. Even if one takes more eventually they will get used to wanting the feed around the same time. It helped last night as after that 12:30 feed we all got to sleep about 1:30 and didn’t get woken till about 4:30/5ish and then after that they are both still snoozing now. I could kiss the people who said about doing them together as it’s really working out.
Day 5 today for my princessess and we have the midwife coming out again for the heel prick test. I questioned it and they said usually with normal straight forward birth and average size baby your expected to go to clinic but the fact we had twins, low birth weight and I had a complicated section they are coming to the house. Dreading it now as poor Isobelles foot is still bruised from all the bloods she had done in hospital Sad
Up to date picture of my cuties. I’m pretty sure they look more identical each day. They showed as non identical in the pregnancy but there was a slim chance of being identical. We have had to keep a hospital tag on ones ankle still just so we know the difference haha!

So many cute babies in this thread !

Dbk hope it’s nothing and If they find the cause it can quickly be fixed with medication.

Bez they do look alike but .... where is that blanket from ! You’d never make a pregnant woman sad ... I WANT It :)

(38w review for me today. Can’t believe many of you won’t have it ! No symptoms so far here. Apart from sleeping more than ever

OP posts:
emvy · 28/03/2018 09:17

I’m hoping all these gorgeous newborn photos will stimulate my cervix into opening so this one can come out, please keep posting! Haha.

Bez, I think they come out as routine for heel prick test here. Definitely makes sense for them to be coming to you. It sounds like invaluable advice on the feeding - that’s a significant chunk of sleep you managed to get with two! I think I’d be happy with that with just the one!

dkb, I’m sure it’s absolutely fine. They are so good at telling you if they think there is something significant to worry about. I can understand being alone overnight is really difficult though.

Wonderfully, that’s what I thought as well. My only concern was just driving through contractions but I guess I’ll probably have some more signs before that happens.

Daisy, I have my 38 week appointment on Friday. I’m really hoping she can tell me his arrival is imminent but I know they can’t really. She has said before, “you won’t need to be induced or anything.” I’m not sure I understand how she could know that but the closer my due date gets, the more I think she could be wrong!! It’s made me even more impatient now though.

Fieau · 28/03/2018 09:24

@bez9087 did you make that blanket.... Its gorgeous! Sounds like a good idea to feed them together and is what my friend with twins did.

OH and I are both ill... I suspect Norovirus Shock he is worse than me - his muscles are so sore he can't roll over without moaning. Just what we need!!!!!

Bez9087 · 28/03/2018 09:26

@Daisy my mum crochet it for the girls. She did two one each. I picked all the colours as wanted it rainbow style to represent the fact they are both rainbow babies and I chose the shades and she did the rest. Also made her put a blue border on to finish it off like the sky. They are super chunky too.
I can’t believe they have been here five days already! Five whole days and a half day too classed as day zero. It’s crazy. Pain seems worse today for some reason on my movement etc I think I have overdone it last few days as it’s so achy when I’m moving about.

DaisyLand · 28/03/2018 09:34

Emvy when are you due ? I’ve been pushing for induction as been to hospital like 10 times cuz of movements but as baby is fine they refuse. I can see me going to week 41 and induction being on the cards. I’d be mad as all these has taken my mental health away and feel weak to go through all the induction process now :(

Bez I love it and love what it means ! How are your other children doing with the twins ? How is your mum behaving ?

Bez9087 · 28/03/2018 10:04

They are doing really well. My dd whos 8 wants to just constantly hold them or touch them etc keep having to remind her to stop pawing at their faces because they are still little and vulnerable to infection etc.
My ds whos 3 can take them or leave them lol! He is interested and wants to see them etc but isn’t too fussed about holding them or being too involved with them where as my daughter wants to hold them allllll the time and has a strop if she can’t etc. I keep telling her they aren’t going anywhere.

My mum is better, it’s like nothing every happened which in a way annoys me but the same time I’m glad it’s like that as I have too much going on to try and sort the situation aswell if that makes sense.

HarryHarry · 28/03/2018 12:04

Bez9087 I was just about to ask about your blanket - it's lovely!

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday (38+2) where she checked my cervix and was disappointed to find out that it is still long and hard and closed. I dread to think I might have to carry on for another month in so much discomfort and pain.
