Clearblue still saying 1 to 2 weeks. Really worried.

Hi,

I am really upset & worried. I was lucky enough to have IVF work first time. I have been so happy, but now i’m starting to panic.

Last Friday my Clearblue read 1-2 weeks, today (6 days later) it is still reading 1-2 weeks. Clearly my HCG isn’t doing what it should? I’m classed as being 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant, according to my IVF due date calculator. The embryo was placed back inside me 15 days ago, so if I had ovulated and it was a normal pregnancy then I would have ovulated 20 days ago.

Today’s first response (bottom pic) is not as dark as yesterdays. Please be honest with me, is it likely i’m having a chemical pregnancy? My scan is booked for 13th March when i’m 7 weeks and 2 days. I don’t think I can wait that long! Is it possible to book one sooner?

Hi villiage, congratulations! I know nothing is guaranteed, but I think clear blue digital are the work of the devil. They often don’t go up as expected, which causes a lot of worry. You’re still very early, so I would also look at the FRER with caution - you’ve got nice strong lines there. I am 18w now and had a similar experience with some weaker looking lines later on etc.

If you can bear it, I would step away from the tests and also wait for the scan at 7w, as by that time they will hopefully even find a hb. Earlier scans may cause you more worry. And they won’t change anything. But if you really want one then do ask, just don’t be worried if they find only a sac, for example (they’ll be able to tell you what’s ok and what’s not for the gestation).

VillageFete · 22/02/2018 07:33

Thank you for replying. I’m absolutely terrified. I have all my hopes pinned on this and my heart will break. I was thinking of getting an HCG blood test from somewhere today if I can? Or paying for a scan at one of those private places? I just don’t know what to do, but I need to do something today if that makes sense?

Please stop testing. You are trying to make a science out of an indicator. It won't help you. You are pregnant till circumstance proves otherwise. I would try and hang on until your scan date if you can, you could pay for an earlier one, but the earlier it is, the less conclusive you will find it and you may just end up more distressed when actually everything works out ok.

Chienrouge · 22/02/2018 07:37

Those tests are notoriously inaccurate in terms of their dating. With DD2 mine said 3-4 weeks when I first tested then 2-3 weeks 5 days layer (unplanned and I had no idea of dates as was on the mini pill so no periods, hence taking more than 1 test!). She’s 2.5 now.
I echo the above... step away from the tests. In the nicest possible way, what will happen will happen at this stage.
Best of luck.

Isittimeforbed · 22/02/2018 07:39

A scan this early won't tell you anything. HCG would be more helpful, but you'd need one today and one in a couple of days time to get an idea of whether or not it's increasing as it should. I've had this issue with tests, once it was a chemical and once it ended with a healthy baby so it could go either way. I do understand how awful it is, I hope it turns out well.

ellesbellesxxx · 22/02/2018 07:42

I had ivf too so totally know how terrifying and precarious it all feels.
If you google forums though, you will find so many threads about clearblue tests worrying people. There is such a wide range of hcg for each woman that it's impossible for them to be accurate.
Have they booked your ivf scan?
I know it feels longer than the 2ww waiting for the scan but that will be more accurate at seeing what is going on. Wishing you lots of luck xxx

Fia256 · 22/02/2018 07:45

Please try not to worry with either!

Clear blue really are the work of the devil. I knew this and still couldn't help taking them as had recurrent losses. I took them a week apart of got 1-2 both times and like you was concerned. I was also using frers everyday and I'm sure one day it wasn't as strong as the day before. I'm now nearly 12 weeks and having had more scans this time, so far so good.

A scan won't tell you anything at the minute and I don't think you'd find a private place that would do one before 6/7 weeks anyway. I'd go to the drs and see if they'll give you a hcg blood test but as others have said, step away from the tests x

NorthernLurker · 22/02/2018 07:46

If your gp is sympathetic they may do hcg testing but you need one test today and another in 48 hours to show the rise.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/02/2018 07:48

I worried myself stupid with these tests. They aren’t accurate.

Ask you clinic to test your HCG

VillageFete · 22/02/2018 07:53

Thank you everyone. I’m so scared. Probably best to make an appt with my GP today then? It’s the FRER worrying me the most. Why would it be a little lighter today?!

OP posts:
Lifeofpies · 22/02/2018 07:59

It could be all kids of things, villiage, time between last wee and test wee, time of day etc. Even if you think you’ve been as scientific as you can! As someone said, they are indicators. That is all.
Call your ivf clinic about blood tests, and they may direct you to your GP.

CheesecakeAddict · 22/02/2018 08:03

Did you take the tests at the same time?

As others have said, an earlier scan won't show anything. Try not to worry until then. I took a test 1 week after missed period and the line was so light it was questionable. The clearblue date is notoriously wrong.

VillageFete · 22/02/2018 08:15

Yes, both FRER’s taken with first morning urine. Yesterday’s and today’s. The only difference is that I urinated in a pot yesterday morning, went out and bought tests and tested with the urine at 2.30pm, so it had been sitting there for 6.5 hours.

I have made a GP appt for today. Should I ring early preg unit do you think?

lightoflaluna · 22/02/2018 08:21

I'm not sure tht epu would or could do anything as youre not bleeding and scans wouldn't show anything yet

rogermooresfifthwife · 22/02/2018 08:23

I think it's still too early to tell either way. As hard as it is you can't do anything by wait and see at this point.

I found that the Clearblue digitals we're actually very accurate at predicting my miscarriage - I was 1-2 at 4 weeks, 2-3 at 5 weeks and still 2-3 at 6 weeks until it went back to 1-2 a day later. So I knew my hcg was going down and I'm glad I was prepared for be miscarriage which started 5 days later, that helped me cope. But ill caveat that by saying if it's not going down in weeks then I don't think you can read that much into it.

ladymelbourne1926 · 22/02/2018 08:27

No I wouldn't ring the EPU a scan at this point wont help I don't think. Those tests are indicators, not necessarily accurate if you can bear to wait for your scan I would.
You can ask you GP to do bloods but they would have to be repeated in a couple of days to check levels, I'm not sure they'd run them if you are not symptomatic i.e as you're not bleeding. But it can't hurt to ask.

Chienrouge · 22/02/2018 08:29

The line could be lighter for all sorts of reasons... the amount of dye in the test, how much water you’d drank the night before etc.
The EPU are pretty stretched and IME won’t do anything unless there is bleeding/pain. A scan at this point would show very very little, if anything so would be likely to worry you more.

HotCrossBunFight · 22/02/2018 08:30

Surely leaving you urine out for 6.5 hours would make it more concentrated? Would that not effect results?

gamerchick · 22/02/2018 08:33

OP please stop testing. I didn’t even have to click on those pictures to see that’s a clear positive result.

Lines getting darker and expensive gimmicky digital tests that should be banned aren’t a reliable way of seeing how a pregnancy is progressing.

snowy1982 · 22/02/2018 08:37

@villiagefete, I know it’s easier said than done but please step away from the tests and try as best you can to relax. A scan at this stage, as pp have said, won’t help.

I am in a similar position to you, I am pregnant for first time after 7 rounds of IUI and was addicted to tests at the beginning. I always tested using FRER and one morning my test line was noticeably lighter than the other lines. I was in a ridiculous panic, couldn’t concentrate in work all day so that lunch time I went and bought another FRER and a CB and did both in toilet, FRER was back to being a nice strong line and CB (I normally would never use as I had read about the inaccuracies with them) was dating me as I was expecting it to. After that day I stopped testing.

Had my early scan just short of 7 weeks and all was good. Am 12 weeks now and had another scan in fertility clinic last week and everything was still ok. So a lighter test doesn’t necessarily mean problems

CobaltRose · 22/02/2018 09:25

My midwife told me the weeks indicators are notoriously inaccurate. It all depends on how concentrated your urine is, what time of the day, how long you held it in the urine... that can all affect it. When I first found out I was pregnant I took one that said 2-3 weeks. I took another one the same day and it said 1-2!

What matters is that it's a positive result. Honestly, I wouldn't worry.

beepthemeep · 22/02/2018 09:40

Oh OP, I do feel for you, the waiting must be so hardFlowers

If you googled "how accurate are clear blue dates", you'd see hundreds of posts with people complaining about this. It's not an exact science.

Please try to keep your cool for your own mental health and for the little bean - take care of yourself and book an early scan from about 8 weeks. That's really all you can do at this stage🤞🏻

VillageFete · 22/02/2018 13:38

Thank you for all of the replies. I rang the fertility centre which is attached to the women’s hospital. I explained since i’ve paid ridiculous amounts for IVF, i’d like a blood test to put my mind at rest. They kindly agreed. My HCG levels are 58. The nurse said she was very sorry, but for 4 weeks and 6 days they aren’t very high, particularly as clearblue picks up on a min of 25ml and it picked up last Friday, so they have gone from 25 to 58 in 6 days which isn’t good. She wants to see me again to repeat the test on Saturday but she was very pessimistic about it. I’m devasted. I only have one embryo left and it’s “fair” quality. They didn’t even want to freeze it at first Sad

I am so sorry to read your update.
I haven’t been in your position so I won’t even try to offer any advice but I hope you have some loving support around you, and can look after yourself and I will think of you in a few days time and send as much positive energy in your direction.

HotCrossBunFight · 22/02/2018 13:56

I'm so sorry Flowers
