Has anyone had to take aspirin whilst pregnant?

At my dating scan last week, the HCA said I need to be taking 75mg aspirin due to my bmi. She didn't explain anything other than that, and as it was whilst she was doing my blood and I felt a bit faint, I didn't question it any further.

I'll be asking my midwife about it when I see her in 3 weeks, but I just wondered if anyone else has had to take it? They've given me the tablets you dissolve in water but as my sickness is so bad still I can't physically drink it!

I am on the same due to my BMI. It's to prevent Preeclampsia in your pregnancy. Well that's what my consultant told me.

I find if you dissolve it in a little bit of water and swish the glass it doesn't taste of the aspirin do easy to keep down.

I’m on aspirin. If you don’t like the ones they get you just buy another type. You can get them for about 20p

I take it for the same reason. You really don't need much water at all, as sugar said above, just swill it around in the glass then throw it down in half a mouthful. I take my last thing at night with my pregnacare vits as I struggled with those to start with and going straight to sleep meant I didn't notice it too much.

I was prescribed it by twin clinic and the registrar said they recommend it to all first time mums. She also said she thought basically everyone (male and female) should take baby aspirin everyday.

They're tiny just swallow with water. 99p for 28 in Superdrug

I didn't have to take them last time, nor did I develop preeclampsia, So perhaps it's a new thing in my trust then. That's good to know why though, thank you.

I think I'll just buy the actual tablets then as with hg I just can't stomach them in the drink. Thanks!

If you do buy another type though, check the mg as the only ones I could get were much higher than I'd been told to take

Yes I had to take it due to potential clotting issues, it's quite common to prescribe it's supposed to prevent miscarriages

Yes you need baby aspirin not regular, check the mcg.

Boots do an own brand 75mg that you can just swallow with water.

Here due to BMI. I did as everyone else and dissolved in the tiniest amount of water and downed it then a small glass squash if I still tasted it (mostly just managed the tiny shot!) . Do not do aspirin in squash bleh!

I take 75mg aspirin because my mum had pre-eclampsia with me so I'm at risk. I asked at the pharmacy for ones that are taken like regular tablets rather than dispersible and after some digging in a cupboard she found a stash :)

I got a new pack this week from Boots however, and they're dispersible but so tiny the pharmacist just told me to swallow them with water.

I start mine next week at 12 weeks and again same here due to bmi and to prevent preeclampsia. I wonder why she didn't explain to you.

I don't know why she didn't explain it to me - she didn't explain a few things actually so I'm hoping to go over it all with my midwife soon.

The pharmacist who gave mine said I should stop before 3rd trimester, but have just ready conflicting answers online and not sure if I should have

I'm taking this although it's due to my Papp-a being so low.

It helps thin your blood and makes blood flow through the placenta better, also helps prevent preeclampsia:)

I was told to take it because of previous miscarriages and I keep losing the packet so have had to buy a tonne of it! I've always bought it over the counter - in two separate Boots I've been interrogated by the pharmacist (who insisted I should be having it on prescription - but neither consultant nor midwife offered this despite telling me to take it) about it because they don't keep it on the open shelves, but my local Tesco, Waitrose and Superdrug all do so no questions there. It's annoyingly a little more expensive than normal dose aspirin, but still very cheap. I've always bought normal rather than water soluble tablets.

I was put on aspirin due to my BMI, but it made me bleed. So now I'm off it again. The consultant said the pre eclampsia risk was still v low and highly unlikely since o didn't have it with DS1.

I took it because of risk factors for pre eclampsia. There's loads of good evidence out there that a lot more people should be taking it. With the dispersible ones, you don't have to dissolve them in water, you can also just take them like a normal tablet.

I had it for low Papp-A as well. You need to stop before you give birth (as I understand it aspirin increases blood flow and reduces clotting which is good for the placenta but can slightly increase the risk of excessive bleeding if you're still taking them in labour/during a section). I think they generally recommend stopping about 35-36 weeks but do get advice on this. I did go on to develop pre-eclampsia after I stopped - hard to tell if it helped or not with that, but I would definitely take it again.

I’ve been prescribed aspirin because of high BP in a previous pregnancy. The midwife I see at the hospital said she thinks that in the long run all pregnant women will be given it alongside folic acid etc..

I'm thinking they'll make me take it too as my BMI is over 30, however I'm worried because I have excess stomach acid and a history of reflux and gastric issues. I've heard it can cause stomach ulcers.
