I keep feeling slightly crampy/achey altho not painful. Also keep checking my knickers as feel wet (sorry if tmi) but only a little clear/normal looking discharge. Am only about 5 weeks gone and terribly anxious as scan yesterday only showed gestational sac (well formed) inconclusive embryo - altho understand this is normal at such an early stage.

My boobs are achy - look bigger (omg as already 34g) and nipple area bigger and pinker.

I have done tests everyday since sunday - except today.. all positive. Want this little one so so much but so darn frightened.

Am I alone in feeling like this?

I think most people feel crampy in the early stages. I am sure someone will come along who can tell you why. I know it's hard but try to relax.

maxbear · 02/05/2007 21:19

It doesn't sound too worrying to me, I think when you want a baby so much you look in to every little ache and twinge and read a lot in to it. Also it has been hot today so maybe you have been sweating more than usual hence damp feeling. Even at 5 weeks you may have more vaginal discharge than normal. Hope it works out for you.

Puppie · 02/05/2007 21:20

Awen please don't worry too much, Cramps aches normal if dont come regularly and not accompanied by bleeding. Have you seen anyone yet? Its so normal to be totally paranoid but try to relax

WriggleJiggle · 02/05/2007 21:21

5 weeks is really soon. Try and not worry too much. I felt really grotty very early on, but can't remember exactly when. Spent lots of time chilling out in the bath to help.
Congratulations by the way.

dressedupnowheretogo · 02/05/2007 21:21

haha i was exactly the same i was a 34 h when i got preg i was a 38l by the end and my boobs just swelled from the start and got bigger and bigger

pucca · 02/05/2007 21:22

Awen...I was like this with both my pregnancies, infact both times i was convinced i was going to m/c.

I actually ended having a early scan with my ds as the cramps were so bad, it wasnt will i start to bleed! i was certain and was waiting for it to start, my early scan only actually showed a sac and i had to go back 10 days later (it was over xmas) and it was growing, bur my date was put back as they said i wasnt measuring what i thought i was.

beckmo · 02/05/2007 21:24

Congratulations. I was terrified when I first found out I was preggars as kept thinking i was having period pains. Pretty normal apparantly. My boobs also grew straight away. It is a nerve wracking time and you become more aware of your body and what it is doing than you ever have been. x

MamaMaiasaura · 02/05/2007 21:26

thanks. It is reassuring about the cramps. JUst wishing time away till i can be sure all ok.. that will be when i can hold baby and count all fingers and toes.

bobby.. OMG - that doesnt look good for me does it? I am still wearing underwired cos nothing else will hold them up!

It is so stressful being pg, every niggle worries you doesn't it?

Do you have to go back for another scan?

MamaMaiasaura · 02/05/2007 21:34

next scan is on the 15th. Am sure this will reassure me.

All this sounds normal to me. I was very crampy for nearly the first 8 weeks or so. The extra discharge is also normal and it's normal to not pick up anything on a scan other than a gestational sac at this stage. They don't worry unless you reach 8 weeks and they are unable to pick up a heart beat on a scan, so try not to stress, it all sounds very typical for this stage - it's early days still.

I'm sure it's very tempting to keep doing tests, but I think you should try to stop doing them since I think it's stressing you out to just keep testing everyday. Not to mention it must be getting expensive! The thing about the tests is that should, god forbid, something go wrong in early pregnacy, the mother's hormones will stay the same for some time which will still result in a postive result on a test. I'm not trying to worry you, I'm just trying to say that there's no need to make yourself more anxious by taking tests everday since you know you pregnant at this point and they are unfortunately not a crystal ball to tell you how things will turn out, if you see what I mean.

Just sit tight, try to stay calm and collected and just trust that everything will work out. That's easier said than done, I know, but that's all you can do at this point. Good luck with it all and try not to worry, everything sounds normal to me, if that helps . Let us know how your next scan goes!

Hi Awen

Congratulations! I didn't have cramping pains but understand from LOTS of my friends that it's quite normal to do so - I did get a lot of pains though from what I now know to be ligaments stretching which somewhat freaked me out (I particularly remeber sneezing and then saying 'ow' cos it really hurt!) - was very concerned about it at the time, but all seems fine (19 weeks now). Think the boobs are a fairly definite sign....

Good luck!

betsycoe · 03/05/2007 09:44

Hi Awen,
congratulations!!

This is completely normal. I got cramps and was convinced there were major problems. I'm 18 weeks now and still get ocasional pains.

My midwife assured me that it is just down to ligaments stretching (apparently it is worse if it is your first baby as mine is). You only need to worry if the pains get unberable or are accompanied by bleeding.

I took baths to help.

Good luck

lyrabelacqua · 03/05/2007 09:46

I had period-like cramps for the first few months with both of my pregnancies. It's perfectly normal - just your womb stretching. The discharge is normal too.

Babylovesmuffins · 03/05/2007 11:20

congratulations Awen! I had pains at around 4-6 weeks and was also convinced it was my period starting.
The m/w told me it was the embryo attaching itself to the lining of my womb, which can cause pre-menstrual type cramping.
Heavier vaginal discharge is also normal during pregnancy, so all the signs look good!
You're not alone in worrying about all the aches & pains, so don't panic!!

goingfor3 · 03/05/2007 12:05

The cramps are streching pains, they apperently get worse with every pregnancy. I have been getting then too and also an increase in cm.

Hopeitwontbebig · 03/05/2007 12:08

Awen, I had these cramps with all my pregnancies, I'm pregnant with DC3 now. I was CONVINCED that AF was coming. It was the same sort of feeling. Perfectly normal, not nice though! Good luck x

Hopeitwontbebig · 03/05/2007 12:09

goingfor3, I'm totally with you on them getting worse with each pregnancy! This is definitely the worst pregnancy so far... and my last I might add!!!

honeyapple · 03/05/2007 12:33

Sorry Hijack-

Goingfor3- CONGRATULATIONS!!! HOW EXCITING!! whats your EDD?

Awen- totally normal- I kept running to the loo expecting to see blood in the first few wks of getting my BFP.

I definitely would say do NO more tests.

goingfor3 · 03/05/2007 12:59

Thanks honeyapple! I'm due around the first week of Jan. I'm very excited and nervous too! How are you feeling?

MamaMaiasaura · 03/05/2007 13:49

So relieved that appears normal thank you xx. Goingfor3 - we are due around the same time i think - last week De/1st week of Jan.

Went in superdrug for bottle of water.. hovered near tests and walked out

Didnt know it got worse after already having one.. that does make sense. Also had section with first so i guess the scar tissue is going to be stretched too.

Roll on safe time

Goingfor3- come and join the TTC graduates thread... remember Greedy? Fettle? We need new members!

panchagarmendia · 03/05/2007 16:08

hi awen, as everybody else already said - completely normal! Somebody sometime ago on another thread called it "rooming-in pains" or something similar ... I really liked that...thinking of the little one getting comfortable in there

LilyLoo · 07/05/2007 12:42

relieved to have found this thread Awen. I have been getting them this am due at beginning of Jan too. I can't remember this with other two so am glad to hear it normal to get worse with each preg.

Holly29 · 07/05/2007 13:05

Just adding my two pennies' worth - around your stage I had the most horrific cramping pains, about twice a day - DH even took me to casualty one night as it got so bad. But it was all OK and went away after about 8 weeks. Turns out it was just stretching and I haven't had it (except for occasionally) since. Am now 19 + 4, so not doing too badly! Good luck.
