Present but VERY Reduced Movements

Hi everyone. This is my first pregnancy and I'm 34 weeks with my daughter. Yesterday i went to the maternity assessment unit for reduced movements.
She usually has at least two episodes a day where she REALLY moves. She violently kicks, rolls etc. Shes extremely active. She even shocks her Dad how already her a child. And then I'll still feel her kick a lot throughout the day.
However yesterday she had no big 'work out', as I call it and could only feel her kick or roll a couple of times that whole day, so I called assessment unit and went in for monitoring. Midwife said everything looked fine apart from the several tightening/braxton hicks (which I've been having several times a day for about a week as well as period-like cramping and sharp shooting pain in my pelvis). But because I still wasn't happy with her movements they asked me to come back this morning to be monitored again. Again I was told everything was fine.
But since I've told them her movements are still very reduced from what they usually are they want me back again tomorrow for a scan.

My Question is: Will they induce me if she continues with her reduced movements? And if not what could they want to do if she doesn't start moving as normal again?

I appreciate any and all replies. I'm really worried about my baby girl. It just doesn't feel right and I have a really bad gut feeling that she's not okay.

Phone the hospital.

Go in straight away - now.

Do not wait until tomorrow if you feel movements are still reduced.

Do not waste anymore time on here waiting for replies.

I agree. If you have that gut feeling and the pattern is much reduced call the Labour ward now. I really hope everything is Ok, and likely it is, but please don't take the chance x

Well done for continuing to get checked. You know your body and baby best of all.

They will check oxygen levels through cord at scan which is good. If you have further reduced movements chances are they will look to induce. Policy here is 3 episodes and induction. However, they may like to get you as close to 37 weeks as possible so may do regular monitorings in day unit until then.

All will depend on scan too. Hope all goes well OP. Enjoy your bundle.

Please go in or call, you must do something, even if you are induced early or whatever happens it will be better than the dreadful alternative.

Please be safe and persistent if necessary.

thank you everyone. my partners mum is picking me up in an hour to take me back in so I'm going to call the assessment unit now to let them know i want to come back in. I hope everything is okay. She'll move and roll but only if I give her a nudge. so when they've done the monitoring she started moving after they've felt her which is why i think they keep saying everything seems fine. But thankfully they still seem to believe me when i say it still isn't enough compared to her normal movements. when they felt her this morning they said she was diagonal pointing slightly downwards, so my partner thinks shes moving less because she's tired from starting to move into the birth position. but i thought they still shouldn't reduce in movement even if they are turning...??

I agree with the others go back in now, but when they do the scan in the morning they will be able to get a lot more information about how well she is doing and that will help them decide what action to take next.
Never feel that you shouldn't go in and be checked though, even if the scan results are reassuring, you know best and if you feel that something isn't right then you are right to act on it as you have done.

if all results come back fine but im still sure her movements are reduced what might they do...?

@laylajo111 they might induce you or give you a section, or give you a scan to assess movement or blood flow through the cord

my friend said they wont induce me for reduced movement alone before 34 weeks if all results are saying she fine..??

I'm scared because i smoke and have mental health issues. I'm worried my hormones and depression are effecting her because I'm struggling to cope mentally..

Share all of these concerns with your midwife tonight hun- worrying about her movements will also upset and stress you and so add to this cycle. They may still action. They will take this in to account as well as obviously stress and worry aren't good for LO.

They'll make any decisions based on the monitoring, your feelings about the situation and, probably most importantly, the results of the scan.

They will want her to stay put as long as possible as at 34 weeks she is much better off in than out. But it will be a considered clinical decision when they've taken into account all the information. It's great they are taking you seriously and hopefully that will help you trust they will consider everything.

3rd trimester is worst time to smoke in terms of growth so stop that as much possible, though I'm sure you're trying.

Your experience has been a bit different to mine...

I went in last week with reduced movements as baby had gone from kicking really hard to me barely being able to feel her.

Was hooked up to a monitor and told all was fine and that I only needed to go back if movements weren't as often. Trouble is, some were so light I was missing them!

Luckily she's kicking more now, not as much as before, but she's changed position so I just can't feel as much.

Go in and get checked whenever you feel sonething is not right. They may induce you eatly ot if they are worried will deliver baby by c section all preferable to the alternative

Thanks everyone. I’m being monitored now. I’ve told them about how I’ve been having some more panick attacks the past two weeks which I didn’t really want to admit to :(

Op don’t worry about being honest about your mental health, it’s better that the HCPs know so they can support you.

They’ve taken the monitor off now. The Widwife just had to hold the one that monitors her heart beat because it kept losing it... she watched it for like a whole 2 mins and kept looking at the rest of the sheet... and was mostly staying between 110-120 then shooting to 140 then back down. Normally it’s always been steady between 140-150. She said the doctors are in hand over so I’ll most likely been seen by one in half an hour..

It’s good you’ll be seen by a doctor. Whenever I’ve been monitored, it’s not the heart beat alone they look for, it’s the accelerations that have been important as that is what shows movement. Hope all is well.
