Present but VERY Reduced Movements

Hi everyone. This is my first pregnancy and I'm 34 weeks with my daughter. Yesterday i went to the maternity assessment unit for reduced movements.
She usually has at least two episodes a day where she REALLY moves. She violently kicks, rolls etc. Shes extremely active. She even shocks her Dad how already her a child. And then I'll still feel her kick a lot throughout the day.
However yesterday she had no big 'work out', as I call it and could only feel her kick or roll a couple of times that whole day, so I called assessment unit and went in for monitoring. Midwife said everything looked fine apart from the several tightening/braxton hicks (which I've been having several times a day for about a week as well as period-like cramping and sharp shooting pain in my pelvis). But because I still wasn't happy with her movements they asked me to come back this morning to be monitored again. Again I was told everything was fine.
But since I've told them her movements are still very reduced from what they usually are they want me back again tomorrow for a scan.

My Question is: Will they induce me if she continues with her reduced movements? And if not what could they want to do if she doesn't start moving as normal again?

I appreciate any and all replies. I'm really worried about my baby girl. It just doesn't feel right and I have a really bad gut feeling that she's not okay.

They’re saying it’s all fine and want to wait until morning to do my scan as they planned. But offered me to stay over night so I’m staying in. The first midwife that was seeing me before they changed to the night staff seemed to actually listen to me. The one I had to see after her doesn’t seem to. Feel almost scared to say anything because It’ll just be just down as nothing. Hopefully I’ll have a more understanding and empathetic midwife see me tomorrow morning.

I was induced at 38 weeks with DS2 for reduced movements, had the first bout at 35 weeks and they never really recovered after a bout of contractions at 37+5. They'll most likely keep a close eye on you from now on and most likely induce early enough.

My recollection is that movements changed in the late stages of pregnancy to become less active and more squirmy. I was told it was to do with the fact that the baby has less room to move at that stage.

^^ that’s outdated and dangerous advice

Hi OP - I totally understand your anxiety around this. I had the same issue with my son but I never had a consistent pattern of movement with him - some days he would go like crazy and others I'd feel nothing. It was awful, and I spent a lot of time being monitored in the last few weeks.

In the end I was induced at 38w which failed and I ended up having a section because I was becoming so anxious and delirious with lack of sleep that it was distressing me and baby. He was born at 38*+2 and the only reason we stayed in hospital for 5 days was because he lost a lot of weight.

Please don't feel afraid to get checked out. My son was sitting so high up that my abdominal muscles were softening the kicks (according to my consultant) but I don't regret for a second getting it checked out at every occasion. Wishing you the best Thanks

Hi
Hope your scan goes well.
I’m currently 32w. Been in hospital 4 times since end of January, even had to stay overnight in one of those. Ive got anterior placenta as well which doesn’t help.

Mw are always helpful and willing to monitor you. I actually went last night , I told her I know everything is ok but for my own peace of mind I need to check he actually is. My baby sometimes keeps losing the track as well, I normally have my hand on the heartbeat one as otherwise he might not get tracked properly.

I’ve got an antenatal appointment at the end of the month in which one of my questions will be can we get the naughty boy sooner ? I know some trusts do it after 3 times visiting the doctor.
I’m in a group of Facebook and it’s strange the day that none of us mentions were in hospital.
Only telling you all this so you realise you’re not the only one and that if you need to be there every now and again then don’t worry that’s what they are here for.

I’ve had also multiple scans (growth and Doppler ) which I guess is what they’ll do for you.

Hope scans reassure you and everything is fine. I know it’s scary but every time I go I think I’m doing the right thing and it gives me the chance to checking on him

Glad they kept you in. Reduced movements are scary I had it twice with DS but the MWs take it very seriously.

Hope you are both ok Thanks

Hope your scan goes well today.

Thank you for all your support :) she started moving normally last night from about midnight and hasn’t stopped since :) and the scan today said everything is fine but she’s now in the head down position!! So I think that she was just kicking less for two days because she was busy turning!! :) so relieved. And happy she’s gotten ready to come out the right way in a few weeks!! Thanks again everyone!!

Glad she’s kicking madly now. Mine is doing the same today as well. Think they knew it was Valentine’s Day so wanted them to let us enjoy it with their df but obtained the opposite :)

LoveProsecco · 15/02/2018 19:56

So relieved you are both ok. Please continue to monitor & if worried again contact your MW/hospital
