How many muslin cloths?

Coco24 · 09/02/2018 19:49

I am expecting my first baby in May, have brought lots of things already some of which are muslin cloths. I have some large ones that can be used for swaddling too and some regular ones.
Lots of people have said to me you can never have enough muslin cloths they are great for a range of things, but how many is enough?!! Xxx

Twice as many as however many you have.

Mulch · 09/02/2018 19:50

Survived with none

mindutopia · 09/02/2018 19:50

I would say 12-16. That's usually like one large pack. You will use them for years, but they wash up well and are pretty hearty. I probably used them for various things until my first was 3/4.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 09/02/2018 19:50

N+1 where N=the number of muslins you already have... and now have sick or shit on them

About 20,000 should do.

(Seriously. Several packs. Babies are 'ckin messy)

MyKingdomForBrie · 09/02/2018 19:50

I’d say about a tenth of however many you have - dd is coming up to 18 months and I still have a stack of totally untouched ones in her room. She wasn’t a sicky baby though.

Buy a few and see how you go? You can always buy more after!

dontticklethetoad · 09/02/2018 19:51

A million at least. I am not joking, but then dc3 was the pukiest baby on the planet.

CocoLoco87 · 09/02/2018 19:52

DC1 we had about 30 and needed them all. DC2 has never needed one.

INeedNewShoes · 09/02/2018 19:52

We started with 8 and I ended up buying another pack of 3.

DD want sicky but they are so useful for dribble, something clean to lie on etc.

Mol1628 · 09/02/2018 19:52

Loads. Buy some more. Cheap ones for changing mats and sick mop ups. And also some pretty ones.

ijustwannadance · 09/02/2018 19:54

I had none with first and none this time.
Didn't need or want them.

Thewinedidit · 09/02/2018 19:54

Agree with PP you will need more than you think. It's the one thing I never seem to have enough off. We have enough bibs and sleepsuits that we could rotate hourly and have enough for a month, but I always seem to be down to my last muslin despite my washing machine always going.

Atalune · 09/02/2018 19:54

It’s good to have a few as they can save your bacon when you’re out and about.

So I would say 20.

I like to have a basket of changing stuff downstairs, a ch aging bag ready to go. An emergency stash of changing stuff in the pushchair. And then another basket in my room and one in their room.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/02/2018 19:56

A million.

Signed, mum whose DC both had reflux.

RicottaPancakes · 09/02/2018 19:58

depends do you have teatowels face clothes etc that you can use instead?

Jenala · 09/02/2018 20:00

It depends on your baby a little bit. DC1 wasn't especially sicky but we had about 15. DC2 was very sicky so we ended up with twice that.

I really hate it when they smell of stale vomit so washed regularly though which probably didn't help.

I'd start with at least 10 or 15. They are useful anyway.

Also get some patterned ones so yours are recognisable when you're hanging out with other parents.

calilark · 09/02/2018 20:05

DD was a sicky baby. I counted them one day and strop about always washing the fucking things and we had 60. unbelievable. A friend of mine managed with just 3 with her last baby, even though I tried to palm some of ours off on her! Just have a few and buy more if you need them - that what Amazon prime is for :)

ginandnappies · 09/02/2018 20:10

I honestly went through about 7 a day. Still go through heaps. Get as much as possible

elQuintoConyo · 09/02/2018 20:14

We never used them. And we are somewhere where they are extortionate.

InvisibleUnicorn · 09/02/2018 20:34

I went through 30+ a day with mine, but they were proper reflux babies 😔

PandaCat · 09/02/2018 20:41

I can't even remember using them with our first.

Makinglists · 09/02/2018 20:46

You will always use them - my two are 11 and 7 and find them good for cleaning Windows, making costumes and for use as a blind fold ( im a guide leader so use them in games etc) They are the bit of baby equipment that keeps on giving. I would say have at least 10.

user1493413286 · 09/02/2018 20:48

I’ve survived up to 9 months with 12 and that includes using a pack of 5 on rotation to line the changing mat

Twooter · 09/02/2018 20:49

Remember that you will be able to shop once the baby is here :-)
