Coco24 · 09/02/2018 19:49

I am expecting my first baby in May, have brought lots of things already some of which are muslin cloths. I have some large ones that can be used for swaddling too and some regular ones.
Lots of people have said to me you can never have enough muslin cloths they are great for a range of things, but how many is enough?!! Xxx

Aldi do the best ones.

Ds uses them as a comforter so we have eleventymillion.

Lindah1 · 09/02/2018 20:54

About 15 I'd say at least. And get at least some really bright garish ones, you can never see nice pretty pastel ones in a hurry no matter how close they are !

I had 18 (3 packs) and I needed them. Same with bibs. My baby was sicky though. Just weaning him now and I barely use one a day.
You think you have too many but it turns out you don't!

ALDI had some in their baby sale so bought 3 packs (9). And already have a pack of 6. Also a few friends have given me some 2nd hand ones too.

Muslin cloth aka a face cloth

lionessma · 09/02/2018 21:11

With my first I had a stash of 10 lovely Faye and Lou rainbow muslins which saw me through till now. I have just hadn't a beautiful but reflux you little ds bed am up to my eyeballs in muslins say 30 plus. I have my nice ones, Faye and Lou and Aden and anais ones and also pick up a pack of 3 for £3.30 from primark whenever I stop in. A goodbye mix of high end and cheaper brands will see you through Smile

Dermymc · 09/02/2018 21:11

Coco24 · 09/02/2018 21:14

You'd probably be fine with around 10-15 to start with, you can always order more from Amazon or pick them up in shops if you need more.

I have a sicky/refluxy baby so we get through loads (and when she's not puking she's dribbling everywhere). Quite surprised that people can manage without them 😱 even if your baby's not particularly sicky they are so handy for putting under baby's head when they are lying on playmats/other people's sofas/pram carrycot etc.! They start to smell really quickly after a spewing incident so always handy to have a few as back-up. 'Muslinz' that you can buy on Amazon are really good and not too pricey 🙂

crocodarl · 09/02/2018 21:31

Honestly, I think it depends on the baby. my 1st one was really dribbly and I used lots. 2 & 3 barely needed them at all. Have about 50, don't really know what to do with them now, hoping they'll be useful for something eventually...

SallyCinnamon3009 · 09/02/2018 22:21

I bought loads on the advice you can never have too many. I never use them- what are they even for?? I have a box full of unused ones in a cupboard

NC1990 · 09/02/2018 22:45

SallyCinnamon I always needed to put one over my shoulder for burping or would end up with sick all down my back. Just one of many uses! They dry quicker than towels which is a bonus.

Princesspinkgirl · 09/02/2018 22:49

Around 6-8 is adequate i also use bibs

BothersomeCrow · 09/02/2018 22:49

Never used any for ds - mopped up milk with bits of flannelette. Then I had dd who was your averagely possetty baby, so the half-dozen muslins were handy for a couple months, then as nappy boosters.

InDubiousBattle · 09/02/2018 22:49

Your dh is right! I had around 30 for ds as he was sicky. With dd I think I used one large one for her to sit on in the park to eat at 7 months . I use them for cleaning now.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 09/02/2018 22:52

I have about 15ish. Bought a pack of 3 and given the rest. Ds is 7 months and we use them for everything. Sick, spit, snot and dribble in the early days. Now for face cloths, bibs, dribble bibs, comforters (only two specific ones), drying benches/swings, frozen for teething relief, wiping all manner of things...actually I think we should get some more as they are in a constant wash rotation.

GummyGoddess · 09/02/2018 22:55

I think we have about 60 and sometimes they're all in the wash. Good for feeding small babies, bib for the toddler, nose wiping, mopping up beaker spills, drying bum after cleaning during a nappy change, general household tasks, excellent for window cleaning.

GummyGoddess · 09/02/2018 22:56

Ooh, also big ones are good for summer when baby might want something to cover them while sleeping but you don't want them to get too hot.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 09/02/2018 22:56

I had a reflux baby. I also had about 40-50 muslins. It was never enough.

brownelephant · 09/02/2018 22:58

get a few, they come in handy.
then see if you need more once baby has arrived.
dc1 was a happy puker, needed about 10 a day to mop up sick.

pimlicolife · 09/02/2018 22:59

I started with 10 and now have 15. I have a not very sicky or messy 6 month old but I always use them.
