I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi Ladies can I join please? New to mumsnet and been looking for hyperemisis support. This is my 2nd pregnancy, 2nd time round with hyperemisis but this time is worse. I'm 13 +4 and have been on sick since wk 8. Hospitalised at wk 11 and needed 8 bags of fluids before the ketones went, still vomiting daily and after meals and starting to feel really really low now. I know there is an end in sight and it won't last forever, but it FEELS like it's already been a lifetime and there is never any let up. I have a 3 yr old son who I have no energy with, who copies me so that when he coughs he covers his mouth and starts making ecking noises coz that's what mummy does which is sad. Was really hoping by 14 weeks I would be feeling brighter 😔

Anatidae · 07/03/2018 19:01

Hi mammybear - welcome!

I also have a toddler who mimics. Little monkey- I’ve had to tell his nursery that if they see him retching it’s just because he’s copying me 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry you’re feeling so rubbish - do you have any treatment?

MammyBear27 · 07/03/2018 19:16

Hi Anatidae I have tried cyclazine but didn't work, I'm now on ondazatron and another anti genetic that goes under the lip but I can never remember the name! They worked well initially but not as effective now. He is really cute and always asks if I'm ok and I feel guilty that I'm not playing with him like I should, do you struggle having a toddler and managing the nausea/vomiting

Anatidae · 07/03/2018 19:44

Ah that’s a shame - I’m in the same boat as ondansetron doesn’t work for me.

It’s very hard having an active toddler as well - I honestly think as long as they can sit with you and muck about/read a book/play with some lego they don’t mond much if there’s no or fewer activities. It’s your presence kids need, and if that’s flat out on the sofa admiring their car racing skills then so be it. Mine is constantly ‘checking mama’ with his stethoscope and a random poking object - he’s adorable and yes, I do feel guilty!

Anatidae that's adorable maybe he's a mini doctor in the making!

LucindaE · 07/03/2018 20:20

Welcome to Mammybear. An anti acid can make a huge difference. That would be Stemitil if it dissolves under your lip. Also, do ask for some form of laxative to help with the inevitable constipation. Did you suffer throughout last time, or find that you got a great deal better later on? Almost nobody suffers as much later on as they do around week ten, so that's some comfort. Some drinks that might help , though you are a veteran - ice lollies, flat full sugar coke, ice cubes, soda water, the juice of tinned fruit, Elderflower Water, Lucoazade, fizzy orange, orange juice (for those will less heartburn), Dr Pepper, orange squash, Robinson's fruit drinks and sips of chocloate milkshake (maybe soya ). For food - of a sort - nibbles of crisps and chips, mashed potato, cheap ice cream, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, and cuppa soup. Some swear by pasta, though others, including me all those years ago, have had dreadful experiences of it.
Anitidae Great advice, as ever.
Watch me cross post...

Mammybear Yes, I had to laugh at Anitidae's minature doctor and his stethoscope and instruments!

I know I am very behind but I have just seen that justtheonethen has had her baby! Congratulations! Violet is indeed perfect.

Mammybear welcome. I am sorry to hear that you are suffering. Lucinda has given you dome very good advice. I think an antacid could make all the difference. I take Ranitidine ( which you can get over the counter) and it makes all the difference.

nailsathome · 07/03/2018 21:43

Welcome mammybear. We are all about "let's sit in mummy's bed and watch tv" here at the moment. I have a 6 and 2 yr old and it's hard work when you're ill.

I have another scan tomorrow Lucinda but the twins were doing well at the last one so fingers crossed it's the same again.

Work have switched my timetable around and given me shit classes. I'm pleased for my original lot that they have a proper teacher as they are a great bunch. However, there is no way I am in any state to face bottom sets at the moment. I have 13 weeks until Mat leave starts, I'm feeling like just staying off now, especially with my spd flaring too.

MammyBear27 · 07/03/2018 22:08

Thanks everyone, LucindaE you have named loads of drinks I hadn't even thought to try so will see get on to some of them, I can't take much more squash/water 🤢. I was a lot better and returned to work around week 15/16 last time but I had started to pick up by this point last time so I think I'm a bit downhearted that I am still feeling as bad as I do at the moment as I expected to be improving. Hyperemisis is the most dire thing I have ever had. Told DH last week I no lo her feel human, feel like Gollum from Lord of the rings crawling round the house with no bra on and sticking up hair all bug eyed and crappy skinned! Nails is the hyperemisis due to you carrying twins (congratulations!) Or did you have it before on your previous pregnancies? Elephantgrey I had ranitadine as well but the prescription has run out and i didnt renew as the two antiemetics and iron tablets were already giving me chronic constipation and I felt anymore tablets would make that worse? MW has told me to focus on taking the iron tablets, then the antiemetics if possible after that. My kitchen counter looks like a pop up pharmacy

nailsathome · 07/03/2018 22:22

No mammybear I didn't have it in my other pregnancies thankfully! I'm glad Lucinda has given you some ideas of things to drink. Dr Pepper has been my friend.

Elephantgrey · 08/03/2018 06:34

mammybear I know what you mean about a pop up pharmacy! It is hard enough taking the tablets and keeping them down. For some reason I found that individual iron folic acid etc easier to keep down than a multivitamin which would only be 1 pill. Every time I took pregnacare it came back up it must be psychological. I have also got a syrup with iron b vitamins and folic acid in it which is easier to swallow but that wouldn't solve the constipation problem.

MammyBear27 · 08/03/2018 07:01

I can never get over the size of the pregnacare tablets they look like bloody horse tranquilizers! I have an app with ME today to discuss bloods going to speak to her about increase in vomiting (was up again at 1 being profusely ill) im just not keeping any food at the minute again seems ive gone a bit backwards. Hope your all having a brighter start to your days

nailsathome · 08/03/2018 08:50

I'm taking the pregnacare syrup but it doesn't sit well in my stomach. I just can't get the giant tablets past my gag reflex!

MammyBear27 · 08/03/2018 08:59

I gave up on them pretty sharpish after the first few attempts! I'm not taking anything other than iron and anti sickness when I can, makes me worried that I haven't taken any folic acid again but just couldn't keep it down and MW wants me to focus on just keeping the iron tabs down because of the issues I had last time. I wish I realised there was a syrup tho I may ask MW about wether I could take that and if it would stay down better than tabs?

seizethecuttlefish · 08/03/2018 09:06

Welcome mommy bear. Pregnacare and other pregnancy vitamins make my hg worse. I've been lucky this pregnancy and not needed iron tablets. I think they made me worse last time. Another vote for anti acids. Dr prescribed omprezole and it's great.
Quick question all. Is week 30 regression a thing? Been ok for 3 weeks but now back to 2 ondansetron a day or I can't function and feeling nauseous all the time.
Thanks lovelies

hotchocolate86 · 08/03/2018 09:13

Hi mammybear I’m sorry to hear you are still feeling so poorly. I can’t offer many tips but I am using a spray vitamin I got off amazon that’s formulated for pregnancy. It seems to settle ok. I hope you start feeling better soon.

hotchocolate86 · 08/03/2018 11:15

I’m so fed up of seeing the same four walls. I think getting out yesterday has made it worse not better. I’ve got dressed. Now to decide if I’ve got the energy to walk to the shop or not.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 08/03/2018 12:39

Hello all, hope today is a good day for everyone.

Thought I’d report back my GP visit if anyone was interested to set up a plan pre pregnancy. The GP I saw was sympathetic but not overly knowledgable. She has given me a prescription for cyclizine should I decide to get pregnant so I’ve got something ready and she said if that didn’t work she would be happy to work through the other drug options but that she would ring the registrar of the consultant and be guided by them as to the next drug routes. She couldn’t specifically assure me I could have any specific drug as she said it would be down to what the registrar said but she said she would do what she could to support me and help me through. She said if and when I do get pg if I find I can’t work I just need to ring her up to be signed off rather than see her and that if I need different drugs I can also call up and assuming she’s happy I don’t need blood tests etc to check I’m OK she will prescribe medication following a phone chat. Main downside is she’s not in every day so I can only speak to her 2 times a week but it’s something I suppose and hopefully she now has on my notes what we discussed. I think this was positive but I still can’t say for sure I can go through with this again.

Anatidae · 08/03/2018 13:03

is week 30 regression a thing?

I had some improvement about 18-20 weeks last time, then a bad relapse about week 33. It improved a little by the time I gave birth at w38 but I had 3-4 really bad weeks. I was signed off by then due to being a complete state so I was able to rest (apart from moving house...) but yes, I had a relapse at the point,

LucindaE · 08/03/2018 13:27

Yule It's good you have a supportive doctor, who has gone for pre-emptive meds. It is a bit step. I would be bound to say, do as I say, not as I did, and do go for another, as I regret not having two!
MammyBear I am so glad that some of those drinks might help.
Nails Hopefully, you might soon find relief, if you have been tipped over into Hyperemesis due to twins. That does seem to have been so with the few others with twins on here. All luck for scan. Perhaps sick leave might be a good thing, rather than having to face teaching - ahem - challanging classes. It was a bit unkind of whoever arranged that to give you difficult classes at this time.
ElephantGrey I am so glad that the anti acid helps a bit.
seizethecuttlefish Unfortunately, as Anitidae says, many do expeience a regression round 30 weeks, which does improve again for many, but is very dismal.
hotchocolate Much sympathy about how boring it is. Many do find that a trip really takes it out of them the next day, but as you say, it is so dismal being stuck at home.
On vitamins - my goodness, MammyBear I just could not keep down iron tablets; I don't know how anyone can. I have heard that the liquid form is better, but that they are more expensive.
Apologies if I have missed anyone.

Really glad dead please let us know how it goes.

Mammy that's what my wee boy did too. It was kinda funny if I was out and he was shouting mummy sick whilst wrenching too lol. Ondansetron didn't work here and gave me the worst constipation.

Ana my wee boy has a wee drs kit as granny is a dr and he was always checking, poking and making me better.

Yep 30 week regression is totally a thing Sad.

Nails are your twins sharing or separate? So exciting.

hotchocolate86 · 08/03/2018 20:15

I made it out earlier but I’m really paying for it. I’ve been sick so many times this afternoon. Sorry I haven’t read what everyone’s said since I last posted. I will read tomorrow when hopefully I feel a bit better.

LucindaE · 09/03/2018 09:15

hotchocloate Poor you. How are things this morning? How have the liquids been going down?
